  • @richard1493
    @richard1493 Před 5 měsíci +5

    I had a PLIF done to my L4 to S1 when I was 26 and I absolutely could not recommend against it more unless it was a necessity. In the years after my surgery, my chronic pain spread and intensified significantly and my bones still haven’t began fusing yet. My lumbar mobility became so limited that I had to leave my career and my mental health deteriorated greatly. I struggle to experience any satisfaction or enjoyment in life and it has gotten to the point where I sincerely feel that the only reason I am sticking around is because I have a family to care for. I spend the majority of my time now between treatment for chronic pain and the depression I began having after surgery.
    I had the surgery because my vertebrae were continuing to slip over my early 20s, eventually reaching 56% slippage. In my case I either had to get the surgery done now when it was inconvenient or later down the line when it was life threatening. Overall it was a terrible experience that was not worth the consequences. In hindsight, I would have rather enjoyed the rest of my youth and dealt with persistent pain than to have tried to remedy it. PLIF exacerbated my symptoms to the point where they now consume my life.

      It's not the fusion, per se. It's the massive destruction of vertebral structure--laminectomies and removal of spinoff processes, as well as massive dissection of paraspinal muscles, all leaving massive tissue insults requiring up to a year for healing, and permanent post operative morbidity, pain, and disability.
      THIS TECHNIQUE SHOULD BE BANNED.
