I love how the main joke of the vid is having Orangutans be as intelligent as humans just cause they want to stay as monke
*E M B R A C E M O N K E*
tbh some ppl arr dumber than orangutans
Its accurate we make an active choice
Fun Fact: Humans, chimpanzees, and gorillas all have sweat glands, but orangutans lack them. The branch that would include the orangutans branched off our evolutionary tree before we evolved sweat glands.
damn, considering how OP sweat glands are, it's a shame for the orangutans :/
Why have sweat glands when it basically rains everyday?
i love how many references you added to real life orangutan interactions, the jacket, golf cart, leaf medicine, etc
Fun fact, as referenced at the end of the video many cultures that grew around orangutans have legends that they are actually capable of human speech but avoid doing so around people so that they won't be forced to work. Honestly? That's fair.
THE MEDICINE WOUND JOKE MADE MY ORANGUTAN RESEARCHER HEART HAPPY
same and didnt that come out like two days ago? damn this dude works fast
@@RyRy2057 it came out around 2 weeks ago. My high school anatomy teacher sent me that article when it first came out and since then, people have been talking to me about the new orangutan finding because everyone knows how much I love them.
8:44 I like how you incorporated the recent news that orangutans use medicinal plants into the video.
Last minute addition
My favourite video in this account was when he made a video about Komodo Dragons/monitor lizards and he said “It’s Dragoning Time”
And then he dragoned all over the place
That was my favourite part
@@DaleEarndhardt that was certainly a 10/10 moment
Which video was that or am I getting pranked?
@@carbonatedmoose7872 The one where he does the dragon dance
Second option boy@@carbonatedmoose7872
8:45 I like the reference to the orangutan found using plants to heap himself.
Wow, the lives of Orangutans are actually pretty chill compared to most other animals.
Look what u did... now he has to pay taxes
Catches up with all of us
This is genuinely my favorite series of youtube videos.
I love monke
I love monke
Monle is gracious and fabulous
8:45 I like the little detail of using the leaf as a way of tending to his wound. Orangutans actually do this, and this behavior was documented recently with an Orangutan who had an injury in the same spot the one in the video had. Great reference!
I want to add some very minor information : )
Orangutans near research centre in Borneo sometimes like to imitate human bipedal stance, and sometimes even does bipedal walking on the ground. I am pretty sure it's uncomfortable for them to do that, but they do it for the lolz anyway.
This is something that their Sumatran counterpart can't have as much, even if they are intrigued by how human walk. Because of...well...Tigers.
Guess now we just need a video on Gorillas to finish the "Ape Trilogy"
And a video on Grizzlys to finish the "Bear Trilogy"
flawed logic, he didn't do the short faced black bear
Worst part of orangutans is they used to be all over Asia. Unfortunately, some humans and denisovians saw them as a food source…
Denisovans are a species of human
@@lokiserpentem8534 species of hominid, not human. Humans are homo-sapien, denisovians are not homo-sapiens. If you wanna make a deeper philosophical argument for what defines a human. But semantically, they are not humans.
Tbh I'm as sad though that non other homonid species pulled through to enter our modern age with us. Even though the racism against them would probably be...harsh. But Especially something like neanderthals or those smaller island hominids would have been so cool to have around
Yucky
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 homo sapiens are classified as "modern humans" human refers to any member of the genus "homo"
I love how the kids are playing Guess Who and all the characters are from his previous videos.
8:44 is a reference to a recent discovery about Orangutans using plants/herbs to heal wounds.
That's actually not a recent discovery as a Borneo research team saw a few wild orangutans doing the same thing while on a study trip and a BBC crew filmed one doing it for a 2020 documentary. Funny thing is that the indigenous Dyak people use the same plant for healing wounds and pain so the question is did orangutans learn from humans or the other way around, as both species learn by copying.
I like the addition of them using local leaves to heal a wound on their face, like the recent article!
8:44 This is a reference to an Orangutan who used medicinal leaves to heal a facial wound which is pretty insane. I wonder what else I've missed.
He will teaching that method to the generation bellow him
the scratched face plant ointment application is very fresh and newly documented behaviour! well done to add it in!
Not new as a research team in Borneo saw a few wild orangutans doing the same thing once and a BBC crew captured one orangutan doing it while filming a 2020 documentary. Oddly enough, the indigenous ppl of Borneo also heal wounds and pain with the same plant so you have to wonder, who taught who??
@@Cara-39 ty for the added information! and im sure we all know who taught who…
@@riskybusinessish Orangutans are great teachers, right?!
keep making these their making the depression go away
Brilliant storytelling in this one! I love that this strays away from the often overused trope of orangutans being just passive victims of habitat loss and adapting to the influx of humans.
Orangutans are so intelligent it's amazing to me they don't have a more social structure as adults, like Bonobos... well maybe not bonobos
Lmao
The Orang Hutan, or Man of the Forest, is able to talk, but he prefers not to, lest he be compelled to labour
As a certified orangutan lover, I deeply appreciate this.
Are you... Orangutan Fan #1?
@@themaskedmysadaean8885 hell yes, brother.
i didn't know they ate fish. very educational. i would give him my hat. i like how you included the legends about them. we appreciate all the research you do. i liked how the mating females had lipstick and dresses instead of wigs this time and thought it was very funny how the different ones just have different colored lipstick.
Thank you! Thought it was about time to mix up the wigs
Primatology nerd here and I promise every hidden reference to a video or research finding was massively appreciated
Ngl I saw the Orangutan using medicinal plant referenced here.
Yes, and more impressive, soon he will teaching that to another orangutans
Could we get a video about gorillas? You know, just to round out the great apes. And before anyone asks, I don’t think a video about bonobos would be able to be on CZcams without an age restriction.
At 8:44 was a nice little reference to that one male orangutan who was spotted rubbing herbs on his damage faced which later healed completely
Orangutans are one of my favorite animals I’m so happy to have been recommended this
6:27 My man really said, "you can't see me" and hit it back to the trees, lmao
Do life as a bonobo
One day…
Oh no
These videos are very entertaining, and interesting/informative.
I love biology and it's really cool to see the life cycle of specific species.
Keep it up!
Thank you, more to come!
Please do one about ants they have a very interesting life and I think it would make for a good video
Self-medicating through plants Akar Kuning is simply beautiful to see
Breaking News: Orangutans are reportedly chill like that
the life of an orangutan is nice counterbalance to the fanta ad
Indonesian proverb reference and medical leafs. Nice.
I like how the video shows a lot of random things we've seen orangutans do in videos. Like driving golf carts and sawing wood
Looking at thumbnail, my silly ass thought orangutan was a pharoh
Tutangutan III was my favorite pharaoh
I'm old. This just became my favourite video of all time. Well done Mate...well ...done.
Sounds slightly less horrible than life as a chimp. Slightly.
I thought that the Orangutan would kill the guy instead of having to work.
I really appreciate the fact that all your drawings depict these gruesome as so cute
I am torn for what my favourite part of these videos is: the narrator’s incredibly bored and lifeless voice, or the great animation and comedy choices!
YES!!! A new YOUR LIFE AS!!!
This series is fucking BRILLIANT
6:28 The John cena disappearance 😂😂
As someone whose social interaction has drastically declined since 2020 and now has red hair, I think there’s some truth to this origin story.
The idea that man doesn’t want to enslave them and put them in circuses, but instead as a new cog in the labor force machine. Also overall this has been one of the most peaceful videos🎉
Besides the Grape…
I have been waiting for this exact video for a long time, thank you for coveringmy favorite animal :)
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@Jamestoland i did
Glad he didn't bring up what happens when they bump into a tourist with red hair...
You mean here at 2:30 ?
Could we get a “your life as a human?”
Suffering.
@@extremely.hung.individual2693 sums it up pretty well
My favorite part was when the John Cena “You can’t see me” hand wave 😂😂😂
God I love orangutans so much
Me too bro
They are cool, and smart.
The suspicion by the human that he is pretending not to speak so he doesn't have to work is so real haha.
Imagine if a group of hyper intelligent primates developed out of the blue. Humans would have them running in the rat race with the rest of us in a heartbeat
Humans are hyper inteligent primates already
nice touch with the self medication reference
I love your videos. And orangutans. These animals are so smart and mostly peaceful.
James follows orangutan news pretty well
I LOVE JAMES TOLAND VIDEOS! 🤩🫶🏽
The animations get better and better with each video.
This is a story about orangutan named Stanly
his father sent him out to buy bread...
pls never stop im your biggest fan
Don’t pay bills. Don’t participate in society. Become monke
This video is one of your best
I am SO GLAD you still make these!
Would ask for How to Bonobo but that might get demonitised.
🤣🤣
Did you say learned behaviours create cultural differences between populations? That’s really interesting to just mention offhand!
Agree! Struggled to find a way to incorporate it into the video more
1:42 I love rambutan, glad it was included.
Well I dont
Yay!!! You said orangutan was on your list when I asked for it and I'm so happy to see my favorite animal - thank you!!
4:24 i believe that saw refrence was from BBC spy in the wild
Not to mention that lady version might end up in prostitution in Sumatra, so not a pretty ending for a grey-faced working class hero :D
That was such a horrific story. Poor Pony had been kept as a pet since a baby then chained to a bed in a brothel and raped by forest workers for years. Thankfully she was rescued but she was so traumatized that she'll likely never leave the sanctuary.
R....an ape....an ape. What the actual fuck. Why can't such people have an "accident" deep in the forest anymore, they're obviously not suitable for any kind of society
maurice
🦧
Braver than Washington’s men
Thank you for this talented video, humorous, great, refreshing! Thank you for efforts put in.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Maybe How to grizzly bear is next. 1:53 He’s done all of the animals on the trading cards except the grizzly/brown bear one unless it is a reference to the polar bear video.
Do a one on humans next.
Sort of did with the chimpanzee one.
life of an orca, osprey, termite and meerkat pls
This is my new headcanon.
ngl dude, this one is ya best one today - alone from the beginning, you had me hooked, lined and sinked; good stuff!
Mantis Shrimp would be really funny to see you do. These are amazing thank you.
Fun fact "orangutan" literally forest people
Your life as an Octopus! Most amazing animal, oh i mean. Alien! 🐙
This one's the funniest one yet!
Thank you! Really appreciated it!
Fantastic work as always!
Another your life as video, thats bananas
“Well, acthually” ☝️🤓
I love all the meme references
My god i love orangutans
Brilliant video with so many references to pictures and videos. Perfectly hinted at without forcing it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
5:40 golf cart!
This should be getting SO MUCH MORE ATTENTION than it gets
Latest update from apes: orangutan in Sumatera able to healing himself with herbs that he chewed first
Latest update from human: Skibidi sigma rizz toilet
What could possibly gone wrong, right?
... was that English? WTF are you saying?
You forgot the "Ohio Ligma Fandum tax" part of the human.
Gorillas prob chew leaves as medicine
You forgot to update the part where an orangutan and chimp took over the world
Awesome video please do bonobos next!
Id actually love to see that, That would be a really fun video
The animation for 'bending nature to your will' cracked me up! 😂🤣
Super underrated creator, love your videos man
Appreciate it!
I love this goddamn channel
I enjoy this series very much! Looking forward to seeing more 😀
Thank you! More to come!
"How to orang-utan". When I read the title, I knew I needed to get more input on this, even though I was aware that I would never have thought of this question on my own. Thank you ✌💪
Americans: "Wow, you're still living with mommy and daddy at 22? That's pathetic lmao, get it together and grow up already."
Orangutans: [live with mom until age 8-15 in order to learn like the grand total of 4 things an orangutan needs to know how to do]
(Yes, I know I'm exaggerating. I'm just joking around.)
humans are more like chimpanzees, staying in a tribe close to family. realistically, living with parents is perfectly normal the only bad part is when one isn´t doing anything to contribute (like not helping with rent, bills, food, etc).
22? Clearly you haven't heard of Biden's policies that caused mass inflation, a housing crisis etc. These days you need to already have a partner (which also has issues with hook up culture, modern feminism etc.), a well paying job and a ritual of devoting human sacrifices to some eldritch horror which represents some abstract concept.
@BrotherHood-xh9sg true, true.
Ngl this doesnt feel like such a bad life tbh
Another banger from toland 😂
