Thats a memorable piste. Did it with experienced pal in my 5th trip 30 yrs ago. "How hard can it be?" Ha ha. Definitely one to stay upright on...
I just saw the sign pointing left to the black, expecting a somewhat groomed piste and thought I'd give it a try.

If I may also share a humble piece of advice, I'd say try and start turning while on top of the moguls. Don't try to fit and turn in between them. You'll find they help you more than hinder you this way.
Thanks for the advice... will keep it in mind... I'm practicing this season though some van/engine problems are delaying my return to the Alps...
when we were kids 45 years ago for moguls but also for regular ski . You have to learn how to read the piste not the mogul in front of your ski but the second one to look for the best track. and the most important when you want to turn this is the arm where you gonna turn that lead your body. you have to stab your stick where you want to turn and use your hand as a pivot

this part looks much less crowded than VI/Tignes.
Generally I try to avoid the busy times and busy areas... the blacks are usually empty so not a problem...
Nice video. I think it’s been said already, a couple of lessons on steep slopes would help you ski with style and confidence. Keep your upper body facing down the slope, exaggerate the up and down movement to make quicker turns and let your skis do the work. This run is always a “fun” one, doesn’t matter if there’s loads of snow or hardly any! Well done for getting down in one piece!

Nothing to do with ski legnth 😢 its your technique. Take a few lessons before next season your not gonna better by swinging your body around just puts you off balance . A wee lesson will sort that pretty quickly . Keep up the great content btw 👌

I can approve, you are a good skier, but these bumpy tracks should be tackled with a different technique @chasing snow. Although ski lenght has an important effect on the skiing style: I had a pair of fun carvers once, they where much shorter, and incredibly easy to turn around. I used them to go down steep pistes with difficult terrain. Particularly in the afternoon, when my legs felt like rubber, that change to lighter skis really worked like magic. I still prefer my usual skis over shorter ones, as those get very instable with high velocitys.
@aurelbongers2038 yes, definitely need to improve on technique for this type of terrain and hopefully I can do it with long skis as I don't really want to change skis during the day. I think we just call it moguls... not sure if there is another name... and mogul skiing would be the technique...

My two favourite skis, 189cm with 107mm under foot and 183cm with 105mm under foot. I would say they are all mountain providing great stability especially at speed, I've done 100+ kph on both and they are solid and stable. I have another pair I tend to bring 180cm and 100mm under foot, much better in powder as easier to manoeuvre but on piste start becoming unstable at 90+ kph. I have many more, best powder skis 184cm and 114mm underr foot, light and just floats but poor edges and not good on icy pistes. Those are the four pairs I ski on mostly, I have some other freestyle skis I haven't used much, getting too old but will have to get them out as they are practically unused... Will have to buy some shorter carving skis next...

GPS data from the GoPro and then Virbedit does the calculation...
How long are your skies and yourself?
The skis I had that day are 189cm and I'm about 177cm
@@ChasingSnow Wauw, longer skies than you are self! I'm as a beginner skied on 170 cm skies while my length is 190 cm.
@@longtreecityltc9325 That's OK, I like long skis for the stability at speed but a bit more difficult to manoeuvre and make sharp turns...
The thing with that kind of terrain with long ''normal'' skis is to do large curves. Here you did small turns and so you stuggled.
Yes, longer turns are easier with longer skis but I also need to improve my mogul skiing, which I'm working on this season...

@@AnthonyMalesys Thanks for the feedback, I'm only including music where there is no sound (such as the lifts) but as I'm on a shoestring budget, I'm generally using the CZcams music library, which is free, so limited in the music choice. As music preference is a personal taste, I do try to vary the genre but it's not always going to be to everyone's liking. I used to put music throughout the video but that was too much effort and found it much better just to use the natural sound of skiing...
Nice video. Well done. As some have already said, invest in a couple of 1 on 1 lessons to help you. It's not your skis that are the problem. Back in the day I used to ski on narrow, very long (2m) skis but if you have the right technique moguls won't bother you.

Rule #1 for bump skiing...feet need to be together.
Rule #2 : Keep your shoulders facing downhill , focus on accurate pole plants on the front side just before...
Rule # 3. Compress legs swivel on top of the bumps, re-extend and edge down the backside of the bump.
Unless you plan to be a zipper bump skier...then this is the way most skiers tackle bumps.

If you ski Val D then you'll get plenty of practice on skiing moguls. Face, EP de Charvet and the bottom of the Solaise....all runs into town basically.😂

Rule #1 is old fashioned, you are skiing on modern skis, shoulder width apart is better. Take a lesson to learn to absorb the bumps to make easier turns. Also, I can tell from the video you’re stiff bc you’re uncomfortable. Comfort comes with time.
@@williamdavidson3453 yes, at the steepest parts, finding my way down wasn't the most comfortable... so working on it this season, hoping to master this type of terrain...

I've skied those same runs many times.
The Forêt can be extremely difficult -at one point it's very steep, narrow, enormous bumps later in the day and in spring it re-freezes late-on to be even more difficult.
It was great fun watching the video and fired me-up for my upcoming road trip to Val Thorens.

Hi and thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciated... I use virb edit to display the guages... yes, I'm using a GoPro. Virb edit is free but discontinued so has a few bugs...

It's the challenge and feeling of accomplishment... I don't think I found it fun :-)
It's not only a matter of " fun" ! There is a special pleasure in looking for the best place to make a turn, in changing your technical tricks on humps and... in admiring the beautiful forest around.
It's also a sort of challenge. And you improve a lot your way of skiing, better if you take a few lessons.
And finally you find that moguls are very.... FUN !

I used to race 208 cm slalom skis in 1970’s moguls and all! Learn to ski properly without the skis doing it for you!
