Kids don't know this but back in the day all the laundry was separated. A few colors would mix in with the whites and the whole load could be turned. Nowadays we have better machines that know better so we can mix our laundry without concern. Of course, there are a few cheap clothes that might bleed or dissolve, causing issues for the rest of the load but we just throw them out.
