I’ve been playing euchre my entire life and never heard Jacks being called a bower. Bar , but never bower. That’s wild.

If the highest trump card was the right bower, the second highest trump card would be called the wrong bower instead of the left bower because the left bower acts like a suit of the trump but is actually not. It’s the wrong suit! Left bower may not make sense to other people. Speaking about the trump jacks, is there anything that has to do with left and right?

Scenario: opponent is going alone, I’ve got two spades, two clubs, ace of hearts. Diamonds are trump. What do I lead? I know if I have two aces I lead one, but do I ever lead a lone ace on a loner?

Never lead a lone Ace to a loner. You can lead either doubleton black suit here. It will help you decide what to keep and what to toss, if your doubleton lead hits the Maker offsuit. You will likely throw away the other black suit doubleton and likely your singleton off ace. Odds are when the dealer calls a loner they will have usually Doubleton suit loser. The majority of the time you will or should keep your doubleton suit they took on the first trick and toss all others.

@@Eadweard76 wow, well said. Do you know any advanced rules of thumb to follow? Or unique scenarios? I'm a new Euchre player but I play at an advanced level. I want to go beyond my current skill level and challenge the best players.

@@Icemario87 There is quite a bit. Like times to trump your partners. To either get the lead to your seat/position. In hopes you can squeeze the maker for a euchre. Or trump the ace in order to have the maker go high or force a mistake (in most cases) if they do lay off. Side note: there will be times maker have to lay off and in those case, It may be prudent to lead trump if trump hasn't been lead yet.
Many similar scenarios can pop up all through the game if euchre but it's recognizing whats in your hand what's been called trump and the tendicies of your partner and opponents that will help dictate what to play at certain times. Also keep in mind not all similar situations in euchre play the same.

@@Eadweard76 That was surprisingly helpful. I don't know how but I could picture everything you're saying. I guess that means I'm slowly picking up the game.
Here's a question that might help me: What's the worst possible loner hand (that should still be played as a loner) assuming each team is below the 6 point line?

@@Icemario87 if you can visualize like that you are ahead of many players. Nice.
As for the worst holdings for a loner try thats going to depend many factors. Seat position 100 percent. Possibly the up card or what was turned down. Your partners tendencies. But just to simplify this. I'm going to pick the dealer position. Right bauer (the big Jack) and 9 of trump with two side aces off suits. Or AKQ of trump with a suited ace. From the dealer position I'm using as an example. But depending on postion as I said the hands can get significantly weaker.
