This is one of the earliest comedies I remember watching (I was born in 1963). It brings back many memories. Thanks for posting.

A great British comedy. Sadly forgotten by many. But I never forgot it.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

How is Patrick able to sing the service in Hebrew? Does the prayer book have phonetic English transliteration with musical notation? Seems a bit unlikely!

Yes, John Bluthal who plays Manny was born in Poland but emigrated to Australia as a child. He moved to England in the 50's. He returned to Australia in the 90's to live, he died there in 2018.

Most ITV Comedies were at that time. It was said that the BBC comedies were much better as there was no ad breaks and the writers had the time to develop the characters.

@@grahamnancledra7036 ITV sitcoms were certainly brasher but it's wrong to suggest they were all poor. On The Buses, Nearest And Dearest, Man About The House, George And Mildred, Rising Damp, My Name Is Harry Worth, Mind Your Language, all very good shows despite received opinion. In contrast I think Fawlty Towers is overrated & the later Only Fools And Horses is one of the worst written sitcoms made. The BBC did produce the greatest of all sitcoms however, Dad's Army.
