I feel like things would move a lot faster if valve put any effort into streamlining the map porting process.
Or better yet - put dedicated surf assets into the hammer editor so people who have no experience making surf maps have some sort of a platform to start from. They could even break it into categories that seperate assets for linear and staged. But yes I do agree that porting maps at the moment is the most annoying thing. Along with the need* for a ray tracing GPU for making maps.
@@Pepe_LeMac You can get community-made surf assets though, if you can't do enough research to find simple surf assets then you probably shouldn't be using hammer editor.
@@augustinehuizing6683 I know that , but newcomers to hammer don't. And that sounds extremely discouraging to someone who wants to learn how to use hammer for surf maps, maybe they have extraordinary ideas and just need a kick start to learn the run around. Anywho just an idea

Nobody forget about momentum mod. Momentum mod is a standalone "game" designed for compatibility with source movement gamemodes, extending even to rocket jumping.

How about momentum mod? It's a source engine game specificly focusing on movement mechanics (Bhop, ABH, Surf, Rocket jumping, sticky jumping)

hey i love your videos. i have surfed for around 500hours on csgo and now that cs2 is out it is unplayable so what do you think sould i buy css and start grinding surf again? and is css the best platform for surf?

hey repster, I watched theScore esports video about Surfing and the ramp bug, I know in cs 1.6 you could avoid the frequency of it happening with changing your fps to specific values. I don't know if its the same in cs:s, cs:go or cs2. But did anybody give it a shot and tried surfing with different fps values?

It's unfair, because 1.6 has higher punishment for bunny hop (due to competitive reasons), but sufr mechanics doesn't differ that much

they "fixed" the ramp bug after something happened at a csgo tournament recently, im sure you can find the patch notes but thats what causes the additional glitchyness with surfing now im guessing it has something to do with how the engine handles hitboxes, your legs float completely differently after the update compared to before

Out of css, csgo, and cs2 because I haven’t played 1.6. I would recommend roblox surf, then ksf. Prior to csgo’s soft deletion, I wouldn’t recommend ksf, but now it seems like the only decent choice for a source based surf experience. Ksf is so behind in tech and basic command access with things like spectating a world record from the beginning of a map or stage being paywalled, maps don’t seem to get fixed either when there are known ramp glitches. Nearly every csgo server would provide you a better experience. Hope they get to that one day because I prefer the css feel. Surf is not in a good spot right now.
If you have the $10 or less when CSS is on sale, I still think it's a better pick rather than roblox surf. Roblox surf is quite accurate, but speed is changed fundamentally and it can be a tough adjustment. Also, not a fault of surf, but roblox is not a very well made "engine". Although it's easy to reach high framerates, stutters can be common, that's just roblox.
This isn't to pull down roblox surf in any capacity, as I think putting CSS aside, which I would consider slightly better, roblox is your next best option. It's incredible not only how accurate they were able to get it in a seperate engine than intended, but also how much QOL is in place there too. Roblox surf has the advantage over every other option of being centralized. KSF sure... but it's not the same as being full integrated in one location.

Repster, You should give Left 4 Dead 2 another try, if you enable the tickrate to be 60 tick, and give yourself a mod that enables sv_airaccelerate, you'll be able to surf just like you can in other source games

I switched from roblox surf to css surf (which took some time to get used to as you can't turn fast while going fast) once Roblox blocked their anti tamper from running with wine on linux. I'm waiting for Momentum Mod to release since valve's linux ports are atrocious.

i think the main reason Roblox surf is so good is because technically roblox is a game engine, and you can program your own custom scripts so quat just coded the cs movement in
I love how the people that play roblox surf, are still into the surf community, just checking a few clips can show that you have been easily recognized in chat :)
what I really missed is cs 1.6 surf, because it was more of a deathmatch surf, not skill surf lol (I know such mode exist also in css/csgo, but there weren't as many people cuz the skill surf was more popular). I remember dying mid surf by an awp from nowhere XD

personally i started cs with 1.6 in middle school, i played a lot of kz and bhop modes, timed, hns easyblocks, etc but I never liked surf until I switched to css, then it became my main game mode especially rpg dm surf gamemode. It was so fun on servers that had a rpg skill for "longjump" jump, which gave you acceleration on your strafed jumps to more easily pick up speed again when you stop somewhere to shoot people. it was also an amazing skill to have fun with to come out of jail on surf_buck_wild (best dm surf map ever imo). i had so many fights in that map's jail using only knife backstabs and fast bhops using the longjump skill with proper movements player skill. CSGO killed my interest for kz, and bhop and surf altogether. Are you telling me css servers are still out there with good communities? i also miss warcraft3 mode when it was at its peak with the easy scriting of css plugins.
