    Who would’ve thought that a 3 minute video would save me $3000? My Nissan Xterra was side-swiped by a small Toyota about a month ago and the door was loose. We took it to a shop who tried to charge $3000 to fix the door or give us $3500 to declare it a total loss and leave them the car. We kept the car and figured we would take it somewhere else later when we’d have the money. This video literally just solved the problem and it wasn’t even difficult to do 😭 Thank you so much!!

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 13 dny

      You don't really. You are just trying to get the door back to the original height. If you then find it is too high, which doesn't generally happen, you would need to repeat the process until it is right. The issue is that when you release the jack, the door is going to sag every so slightly so it can be hard to judge.

      @@ClintHolland Hi Clint. I have the same problem as Alexander Mantilla.
      My front driver side door has an upper and a lower hinge.
      Each hinge consists of:
      - a bracket that is bolted to the door,
      - a bracket that is bolted to the car
      - a hinge pin that holds the above two brackets together
      The hinge pin has worn the holes in the door bracket so
      the door sags.
      It's not clear that the solution you proposed would work properly in this case. Could you please check to see if the car door you repaired in the video was sagging due to worn hinge pin holes rather than loose bracket bolts?

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 2 lety +1

      @@etherx8604 If your hinge pin is worn out this video still might help by mitigating the worn pin with a hinge adjustment. However, if the hinges don't have enough play in them to offset the hinge pin wear, this isn't going to work and you are going to have to replace the hinge.

    This could possibly be the issue in my mustang but I’m not sure. Basically when I shut the driver side of the door, it will shut it closes and locks however the window doesn’t lock itself all the way up? Like it leaves about half an inch open which leaves the car thinking it’s still open. And before this, when I would close it normally and such the window would push itself up securing the window on its own. Not sure if it’s this or something else. Any ideas?

      @@Holly24tm That's pretty rare. I assume it flew open when you were braking. If so I would suspect a defect latch.

    Does this work for most brands/models?...I have a VW caddy and the drivers door was wind damaged and my mechanic says the door needs replacing ..

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 2 lety

      Possibly. But if it was wind damaged I assume that means it was opened too far and this may not help. What kind of issue are you having with the door?

    i dont get how this physically works though..., wont you be screwing in the exact same position? or does the bracket have a large hole that is adjustable

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 3 lety

      You got it Alex. I won't say it has a large hole but the holes in the hinges are larger than the hinge bolts which gives you just enough movement to make this work.

      @@ClintHolland i have installed a bodykit and sideskirts on my car, and the doors are only clearing by 1 mm. i tried to raise it but found the holes were the same size as the bolt, and there isnt enough of an angle to fit my drill to make the hole bigger. i guess im just going to sand the bottom of the door and top of the sideskirts as much as i can because im going to respray anyway. But i appreciate you help

    Would this work for a door that sitting a little too high after body work? It doesn’t line up and lets wind noise in.

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 13 dny

      Maybe. The door closes and latches ok? If so, you can use the jack to support the door but after you loosen the bolts you can then use the jack to lower it just a little.

    I have a 2015 Jeep renegade. The wind blew my driver side door outward very harshly. I’m surprised it didn’t break the door off. Nothing seems broken as far as hinges etc. but now it’s not aligned. It closes but very roughly. Could something had broken off? It has three hinges. The middle one is a plastic hydraulic type of rod.

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 2 lety

      If something was broken you would probably see it. That is actually very similar to what happened to this vehicle that I fixed. Have you tried the technique in the video yet?

    • @Catman1798
      @Catman1798 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ClintHolland I don’t have the right wrench for the bolt removal. The bottom hinge is harder to get to because of the harness wire for the door. The hinges actually look fine to me. I guess your technique would probably work for me.

    • @Catman1798
      @Catman1798 Před 2 lety +1

      Your technique didn’t work at all. Spent 2 hours with it. Just gave up on it now. All I gotta say to you all wanting to do it yourself just take it to a mechanic. Don’t always believe what you see on the internet. They always make it look so easy on here but it isn’t for you when you do it. And yes I’m tired and ticked off now. I’m saving you all the trouble. Quit being cheapskates and just take it to a professional. I’m gonna take my own advice.

    • @ClintHolland
      @ClintHolland  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Catman1798 I understand what you are saying but that is no reason to start off with a mechanic. Check the comments, Tons of people have said this fixed their problem. If they started by going to a mechanic they would be out money they didn't need to spend. Try this technique. It's free and takes 15 minutes. If it doesn't work, then take it to someone else but don't start by assuming this doesn't work because it does and this video is proof.
