People on TikTok: I donât want to use liquid lipstick around my eyes, isnât that dangerous?
Also people on TikTok: *uses lube as primer, cocoa powder as contour, testers in stores for âfreeâ makeup, suction cups to swell lips*
Lube as primer..? What?
@@kingexplosionmurderfuckoff9376 oh it was a weird trend for some time, people saying that lube basically works as a silicone-based primer
@@kingexplosionmurderfuckoff9376 i feel like this is something we need to knowâŠlol
The lube one caught me off guard XD
The lube ones mostly only for the shock factor
My husband Dave, who passed away in Aug last year, used to watch your videos with me. He really liked your personality and found that you exuded a calm confidence (except when you are doing scary videos with your brother obviouslyđđ»đ»). What he really liked though, was that you weren't arrogant and that if you went into a video with a "preconceived" idea that something was shitđ but after using it, you sheepishly declared "you know what, I'm not mad with that" or hands on cheeks saying "ooh, I think I like that", I would hear him sniggering on the bed next to me, pretending to not be listening. After I realised that he enjoyed them, I would shout to him that there was a new video up and he would lie on the bed and watch it with međ. Now I watch them on my own but every time I do, I think of himđ. Keep being honest and candid....and drama-free, as the rest of the Pro MUA's embroiled in these petty sagas are just to exhausting to watchđ!
Omg Iâm crying

Awww đ„ș. This is too sweet đ„șâ€
I'm so so sorry for your loss!
Sending you a big hug â€

this was so sweet. rest in peace, dave đ
Let me tell you how disgusting it was to watch someone come in and do a FULL FACE from testers! Even pre-covid! And we had high tester standards and it was literally gross G R O S S!!!
When i was a teen i did that đđđđ. I assumed that they were cleaned frequently. Only did it once that i remember.
I just saw a woman do that to herself last week at Ulta!! My husband pointed it out to meâŠhe couldnât believe he was seeing her do that!
Makes me want to throw up! It is so gross.
@@cecilia929 It's ok, not everyone has the money to buy more expensive makeup (where testers usually are located), and they shouldn't be shamed for it. I would guess you're not the only person that assumes testers are cleaned in some way, and tbh, they probably should be... or at least give the public instructions on how to test products in the most clean way possible in b/w cleanings. I say this as someone that just bought cheap makeup when I couldn't afford more expensive makeup, but I don't judge others like *some* people lol
@@NickaLah itâs unhygienic and unless every other part of the store is lickable clean you should never assume aside from a hospital that anywhere is that quality
I canât believe we actually need to be told to not use the tester products because of hygiene issues. What year is this? People are still doing this? Full on gasp! đ± This was a fun one! Thanks for your time and efforts.
i used to use lipstick testers before the pandemic and iâm still cringeingđ„Č
Hide the tester and ask for them to open a new one ;)
Why tf do stores even still allow this?!
Iâve never used testers, one my mum taught me not to and two itâs so unsanitary and a bad habit to get into.
Seriously who does that, enjoy your herpes hon
As an MUA, I can say, social media has given people COMPLETELY unrealistic expectations of what we can do. Youâre 45 Karen, I canât remove wrinkles đ
(No shade, I MYSELF am 45! Lol)
I'm 45 next month too! I wish I'd been as into makeup when I didn't have wrinkly eyelids - I would love to have the experience of putting on eyeliner without it jumping over wrinkles or having to adjust for said wrinkles. Or to blend without wrinkles... alas I really got into makeup later in life and these are just things you have to deal with. I wish MUAs had a magic wand...but at least Karen has facetune (something I simply can't be arsed to learn how to use lol) đ
Team 45 next year đ«
@@slinkywhippet same feeling đđ
I wish I'd started makeup before I got into social media, I have gotten into the trap of having unrealistic expectations, mostly around eyeshadow. I'm 35, I totally get I'll have wrinkles etc, I'm happy with them.
@@Queenofcats36 youâre not alone! Also itâs sad that there so much pressure NOT to have wrinkles! We got em! We earned em! Theyâre beautiful!!!! đ„°
People who use testers to apply makeup on themselves are totally the type who would hide a zombie bite during a zombie apocalypse, just saying. I was a huge germaphobe even prior to the pandemic, and Iâm horrified at how nasty people still are and the risks theyâre willing to take!
At any rate, always love your videos, and this one had some really great tips in it, thank you! đ
I hate when I'm in store, people open brand new products, test them and put them back. It's disgusting to test mascara, lipsticks, etc that are not labeled as tester. People have no etiquettes
100% about the zombie bite!! Lol
& People are nasty!!
YES đ€đ„
I'm a germaphobe, too. The amount of parents and babysitters who think it's okay to change a diaper without washing your hands is far more concerning to me.
You do realize that a germaphobe has a disproportionate and irrational fear of germs? Itâs bit like having and irrational fear of balloons and then judging other people for not having that same fear. If you are a germaphobe then, almost by definition, you are someone who cannot rationally participate in conversations about germs đ€·ââïž

I remember falling into the trap of wondering why my make up didnât look like the CZcamsrs why it looked cakey and didnât look perfect. Once I realized they have the best lighting, filters etc. and that heavy makeup will always look like makeup and that they didnât look that perfect in real life I stopped being so insecure about it
Same. I had this moment where I realized the at Id never seen heavy makeup in real life that looked like youtuber makeup. It clicked and I felt so much better
Yesss i thought I was just bad at doing makeup, I would be so frustrated whenever I did my makeup specially when it comes to base makeup turns out thatâs just how it looks in real life for most people.
I have been watching Ali Andreea, who is a makeup artist in Paris, France who does make up models who have skin issues, and that I honestly feel is just straight up about makeup and has made it clear that a filtered, flawless make on CZcams is bsâŠyou can great looking make up but to have make up that looks like was flawless spray painted on is ? Even a painting is not 100% and know that I understand this, Iâm more confident with putting makeup on.
@@plotwhisperer5502 - I watch her too she makes really great content!
I used to work with an IG influencer who was very popular in my area. She looked so flawless in her photos, and a complete cakey mess in person. Lighting changes everything.

The girl "fixing" her hooded eyes literally has SO MUCH SPACE lol
look at how much real estate there is between her eye and eyebrow đ
Dont stop your shadow at your crease, go up further closer to your eyebrows for more space! that's what I do with hooded lids
I was thinking the same thing lol! But I guess itâs also for that âliftedâ effect she wants
Right? Like when my eyes are open there's 1cm between my lash line and eyebrows because my whole lid disappears, lol. I saw that video and was just thinking that she had so much space to work with already. The only makeup styles that work for my eyes are ones originating from Asia that don't require eyelid tape, because they use what little surface area naturally shows in the most efficient ways. If I did eyeliner the way I see many north american muas do it my whole visible eyelid would be black when my eyes are open. And I know because I used to try to do it that way lol
The ulzzang style of makeup looks so much better on me than anything I've tried that I see other white people do because I assumed their makeup would look good on me despite the vast difference in how much canvas I had to work with vs people with completely unhooded eyes
@@Alex-fc8xn i just commented the same â 1 cm between my eyebrows and lash lineâ thing đ good to know Iâm not the only one!
I have low eyebrows, extending shadow above the crease doesn't work for me
"Giving the look of no makeup requires A LOT of makeup!" I had to laugh out loud at this one. I'm 68 and when I have all my "war paint" people will say how pretty my skin is, how natural I look etc etc. It's all smoke and mirrors, as you said. It's getting harder to make my face look even and all that jazz. When I do do it, it's a lot of work. I'm constantly learning.
When someone my age looks at photos it can be really discouraging, face-shaming and body-shaming. Until I remember: Duh. Photoshop.
I really enjoy your personality, you seem so genuine and caring. First time watching you. Your eye makeup is stunning!
Lmao!!! I had a client literally do that to me the other week! Sheâs like Iâd like to look natural but then had a picture of kim kardashian as her reference for her skin. I was like girl sheâs anything but natural in how her makeup is done đ€Łđ
And she would have an esthetician and a dermatologist on staff
Oh girl I feel so bad for you, I cannot imagine how many misguided ladies coming to you asking for the Kim Kardashian look. Ugh!
the first one is very interesting to me because it's similar to a technique called underpainting which was commonly used in old oil paintings to get more variation in colour and depth when they didn't have a lot of colour options.
it's weird cos it makes complete sense to me but also I never would've thought to do it lmao
Ahh yes, a lovely grisaille. I need to get back to painting đđ„° I LOVE watching the beginning of my painting unfold in the grisaille stage and even though it's an outdated technique, I think we really underestimate the ability to edit and revise a composition while still in the stage of using either a grey or (my favorite) a raw umber or burnt sienna and white. And I REALLY think it adds to the depth of the piece, as well, but I think all beginning painters should be trained to work that way because you notice issues in composition, or potential improvements, opportunities etc in your painting without having to be beholden to hours of actual painting, color, brushstrokes and WORK in general.
If you watch Scott Barnes he does this and he was originally a painter and discusses that it is underpainting
the technique is called underpainting! a lot of drag artists do it too
I saw this on Tik Tok, and it was like a lightbulb moment - like how did I never think of this?! I havenât had a chance to test it out yet, but definitley looking forward to testing it!
Itâs a drag technique
I have slightly droopy and quite hooded eyes and for years Iâve tried to go against it, lift it in any way possible. Lately ive been respecting its shape and going along with it. Iâve a actually quite been enjoying a downturned liner. I do not like how most people only say how you always want to lift eyes, especially hooded ones. Why do we have to force the same look on everyone? :(
Yes. I have genetic very hooded eyes, and I focus on doing the âwide-eyedâ doe eyed look. I find it more flattering on my than forcing a ridiculous looking winged out shadow and liner.
I agree, I have a little hooded eyes, but my boyfriend and my mother have heavily hooded eyes and it's so unique, why would anyone change such beautiful features that make you stand out, nose bridges, crooked teeth, big foreheads, wide lips and so
Same
I have hooded eyes too (and getting more so, year on year. Yay 40s). Smith Deepak's chanel has great tips for hooded eyes! Recently I've been enjoying bright matte colours in a single shadow look. I particularly like acid green, as I have dark green pupils and they go well together. Using just one shadow, in a good formula and giving it a gentle blend at the edges. So even if it gathers a little in the crease, there are no travelling sparkles and it wears well all day. Even in a recent heat wave. Satins have also become a new friend. They are very forgiving and can be used all over without mattes.
@@ALT-vz3jn yes ! I've started doing this a rounded wide look and it's changed my life, I save so much time not trying to do a winged look and I get more compliments on my makeup (partly because I can put it on better thanks to Robert !)
Robert's genuine excitement when learning something new is the most wholesome thing, I love it đđđ
'No one looks good at this angle' speaks to me so much.
I wear a strong prescription so to apply make up I'm barley an inch from the mirror and it looks awful. I thought I was doing it wrong(maybe a little) or my skin was bad (yeah a bit) but eventually I realised actually it's just because I'm too bloody close! Stand back, feel good, rock on!
Same, I literally have to get like a inch away from the mirror to do my makeup đ
Yes!! And then brushes hits the mirror.... Eye makeup is.... a work.
@@TreesNotBeach right đ© the struggle is real!
Plus having to use the maximum magnifying mirror you can find too
You're an adorable human. âïžâ€ïž
As an MUA I remember a thing my old-school teacher (he's been doing makeup since 91) told us: put makeup for the occasion - which means match your environment. To give you an example: If you have a mid day event somewhere in a park/ garden (spring/summer) do creamy makeup with sheer textures and that will look stunning. If you have to do a makeup for a magazine cover then you have to pack that makeup tight so it shows on that picture ( that will never look amazing in person because it'll be very intense).
For me it's funny to see makeup pictures, knowing that my natural style of makeup almost doesn't show in pictures but looks amazing in person.
Itâs never wasted time to remind us how much pictures get retouched or just good lighting making it seem perfect. Itâs so easy to forget! And if you donât do these things yourself it can be hard to spot. Keep the reminders coming!
When Robert tried the primer hack and it worked he made the cutest face and noises đâ€ïž. I always love it when he gets excited over something :).
Byee đđ
I feel so discouraged when I finish my make up cuz it looks nothing like what I see on social media, it has really destroyed my confidence in my ability to apply makeup. I used to love what I looked like after putting on my face, and now I am never happy with it because everyone else's always looks so much better. đ I'm glad your shedding light on this situation! I'm constantly judging myself and try to get these impossible standards. It's sad, and expensive đȘ cuz its un unattainable
Change who you follow. Follow artists who dont do this. Who keep it real. X
I love how Robert talks with his hands. Even if you donât look at his face you can tell expressions and emphasis of his words through his hands. Really fun lol
Iâve been a MUA for 20 years and the unrealistic expectations things has gotten so crazy. The number of times Iâve been shown a picture of a Kardashian/Jenner as a natural makeup example⊠I screamed when you said it
@@JuxJacy Are you kidding me with that nasty attitude and dissing her abilities??? If you don't have anything nice to say here then don't say anything at all. The whole time she's doing her makeup *for free,* I was screaming, "eewwwwwww!" That's awful. That's gross đ€ą... Not only COVID-19, she could be getting mono, or herpes .... đł
I know this is an old comment but I thought I would let you know you can't get herpes from makeup unless you use it right after the person who has it! But I'm not so sure about mono. But yeah herpes doesn't work like that ut doesn't survive off the body for more than a couple seconds
So no one is going to talk about how Donna ended her video with an EXTREMELY similar quote to Robertâs? Hmmm peculiar. đ€

That's exactly what I was thinking.
which one is donna đđ
I thought this as well!
He didn't invent the "become a pro yourself" phrase đ€Šđ»ââïž
As a photographer It is natural for my brain (as a sort of automatic exercise) to detect what has been done to a picture, it is normal for me to asume that almost all pictures are edited, can be as simple as colour correction. From time to time I talk to someone that is surprised that this or that pic is edited, and I remember the importance of making a disclaimer that a picture has work on it.
The sheer joy of the snapping was such wholesome content. â€

Hygiene is key! You are so right!!! Germs are there no matter if there is a pandemic or not, so better be careful with those applicators, dear makeup users and MUAS :) I am in the same age range like you Robert and I started makeup since I was a teen but only after I moved into the capital and I turned 30 I could attend a pro makeup school - which never existed in my home town... So grateful for tips on social media from experts like you :) PS: Your looks are always stunning and I do not trust MUAS that do not wear makeup :)
the girl doing her makeup with testers gave me the ickies but it did remind me of a happy memory i wanted to share :) When i was about 7 or so, whenever me and my mom went anywhere that had makeup i would run around trying all the testers. One day in Kohl's a guy working at one of the counters saw me playing with the testers and asked if i'd like him to teach me how to put on makeup. With the glue for hooded eyes, are you able to blink comfortably? And generally, how long would it hold?
BTW, Robert, your makeup is looking so damn good in this video!!!
Depending on your glue, it usually lasts around 5hrs. Some super strong eyelid glues can last the whole day. Effectiveness may decrease if you have oily lids. If you have a lot of skin on your hood, it may be more comfortable to blink. But if your eyelid skin is really tight, it may be difficult to blink comfortably and you may have rather dry eyes as your eyes canât close all the way. Some eyelash glues may irritate the skin so it is recommended to use proper eyelid glue from Asia instead.
Eyelid tape is usually more long lasting and comfortable.

There is a Brazilian makeup artist who created a brand called BT, her name is bruna tavares. Iâm an adopted Asian girl who hated her eye shape for years. I â€ïž that there are tricks to deepen your socket, but itâs also important to love the eye shape you were born with. I spent years thinking I needed implants, curly hair, anything BUT the monolid I was born withâŠ
Learning to love yourself & the way you were born is freeing â€ïžđ
And I'm a white girl that's been wanting Asian eyes since I was little I always thought they were so beautiful. Societal beauty standards do interesting things to us!
I love when Robert tries a hack and it works haha his face just lights up so cute.
The eye makeup at the start of the vid is giving me cosmopolitan cosmic Queen vibes and I'm here for it!
The lighting issue is the same thing within the physique and fitness industry, where you want the shadows to highlight the striations of the muscles and the separation between muscle groups.
You want a certain kind of lighting and at a certain angle to enhance the outlook of your physique. Itâs a social media trap, but itâs also how you portray your best physique on stage by taking advantage of the lighting. I think that sort of lighting is called Half Natty Lighting.
On top of that, photo editing is still done on physique competitors, but understandably this is to sell an image and to promote the athlete.
At this point, what we see on social media we have to take with a pinch salt knowing that features are enhanced and edited to sell a certain image.
Edit:
The makeup hygiene part calls back to the video James did about the girls that got herpes from the lipstick tester in Sephora.
Love your videos. I'd watched this previously, and loved the Primer tackiness hack. The other day when I was in Ulta, looking for a new primer (including seeing how the Nyx Plump Back reacted to *my* skin), the sales associate was looking at me funny. Like she should, she asked me if I needed help finding something - I told her about this hack, and she & I went around trying like 4 primers - and giggling when we saw which ones didn't snap & were known to be more slick or hydrating.
ROBERT IS GORGEOUS IN THIS MAKE UP
I like what you said, that creativity has no rules but makeup has a theory. I totally agree.
That primer snapping one is brilliant!
Wow, I will be doing the hack for skipping the wind shield wiper motion to apply eyeshadow. I have extra skin now that I am older... and pulling down on the skin makes it work. I am definitely going to look into those little pieces of tape that help hide droopy skin!!!đ€đ€đ€đ€
When you get excited it's hysterical and adorable.
âDonât you just love the internet?!â You crack me up đ
Thanks Robert for these vĂdeos, i learn a lot with them and you're so funny. You and your brother James are so fabulousđ
Just remember .... they're not the same person!
What that makeup artist was saying is exactly what happened in the hair business. I started in the early 2000s and there wasn't Pinterest, filters, etc. As time went on, people started brining in these instensely unrealistic haircolor and "haircut" photos that were heavily filtered and took so many sessions and so much upkeep. People constantly wanted "haircuts" that are just layerless and waved professionally with an iron.
Robert your eye look is just so STUNNING! I cannot stop looking at your eyes.
I love how excited you got to try that hack.
Iâm gonna need a video and tutorial on that eye look. Holy hell itâs gorgeousđ„đ„đ„
i was going to say the same thing!!
My only concern with using liquid lipstick on the eye is if youâve used it on your mouth! Iâm not willing to risk an eye infection and imo those doe foot containers are breeding grounds for bacteria
I feel that way about multipurpose blush products. Most people apply directly on to the face and it just grosses me out. At least use a brush!
That excitement to try out the snapping techniqueâ€ïžâ€ïž
Can i just talk about that absolutely stunning lighting. With your makeup, sheeeesh, looks so damn good
Love love loved this video. I legit want to try the lipstick on the lids, and that primer tip at the end was brilliant. Plus I just love how you took a moment to again stress the reality of makeup in a social media world. Your honesty is one of the reasons youâre my go-to CZcamsr â€â€â€

Robert and the primer trick = most wholesome content thus far hahahahaa
I used to use eyeshadow over lipstick for my lips, always had compliments, never smudged or transferred, lasted all night, better colour /finish range and I never had to worry about matching it to my eyeshadow because it was already the same.
I've done this for ages too, you can get so many different finishes nowadays in eyeshadows, I especially love putting duo chrome shades over a dark lip mmmmmm soooo đ.
Some brands say they are eye safe lip products. Im pretty sure jeffree star says that as his lipsticks were massive in the drag scene for eye products
I love seeing a really good tip and Robert get excited. He and James are both so cute when theyâre genuinely excited about something đ€đ€đđ
when you got so happy about the snapping fingers primer was so cute ahahaha
the snapping tip just revolutionize my life
These videos crack me up, excited to see what you unpack this time. Also love that shirt!
Love this! Especially with what Spencer said. As a photographer that does beauty photoshoots, it is so true about the retouch! Thanks for pointing that out!
Your make up looks great and I love how giddy you got about the snapping tip. Thatâs awesome! Iâm gonna try that next time I shop for a primer, but for the opposite purpose. I need a primer that wonât dry out my already dry skin.
Im about to go test all my primers lol.. love seeing how excited you get on a new tip that works, makes me excited to lol
Happy Wednesday, Robert! First of all, I love the reactions videos - your honesty and candor are what keeps me coming back. When you were talking about the use of filters (Iâm about to date myself) I thought about Glamour Shots that all had this filter that made everyone look like they had this fuzzy halo effect and to see what people can do now with filters is just amazing. Thanks again for the awesome content and will the rings be making a comeback? đđ€đđ€đđ€đđ€
Your eye makeup is stunning!!!! Absolutely love the colours!! đ
yo if i were a famous celeb robert welsh would need to be my makeup artist and on my payroll! his eyeshadow always looks stunning and flawless. and ive learned so much from this man
I love the primer tip! And thanks for the NYX primer rec, I'd been wondering about that one. The full face from testers made me feel gippy, yikes hands only!
Love this look, Robert. I admire that you remain respectful and still have to clarify that you're not mocking but only providing useful guidance and insightful information.
i really like Spencer, so kind, real and talented.
Thank you SO MUCH for featuring my video!! I will admit I havenât really watched your content before because I am new to your channel! I canât wait to binge your videos!
Ok, on the reaction about PaintedbySpencer vid. Recently a friend who worked for a production company did casting for a dating reality show for a streaming platform which needed a lot of girls as talent. The girls come to the studio and did a video interview. Afterwards, my friend compile a profileof each girl consist of their name etc, few of their Instagram pic and their video interview. What's funny is, the upper management or her bosses who are 90% male, said that the girls doesn't look anything like their IG pics and critize her for her casting set up as in did she use the right camera, did enough lighting is applied etc and not realizing that these IG pics are touched, filtered or maybe edited added the fact that some of them may also are taken 100x before finding the right one or taken by a proffesional photograper or a perfectly lit situation or wheter its a full blown a pre planned photo shoot. In short, my friend was trying to portray the girls in the most natural setting as possible but still presentable since its a casting with the purpose of experiencing their real precense, profile etc but her bosses apparently was having this high expectations based on something which is not achieveable in real life.
Great stuff. it is sooo disheartening to see the perfection of makeup and beauty looks and comparing them to yourself; great timely reminder about what goes on behind the scenes to achieve that. Your look is on fire today Robert!
Watching Robert get so excited and lose his shit over the primer snapping hack was so adorable. I love his reactions.
21.12 this is the best part of the video, i love your realization hahahaha
First off, thank you for posting this. Today was just awful, and I needed a break. Your videos are peaceful, lovely, and so positive, which is what I needed.
Second, I cannot understand how anyone can use a tester!
I once had my makeup done by a well-known makeup artist, and he gave me so many good practical, sensible tips. Most important? Don't use the applicators in the bottles on your skin, and clean your tools after.
When I go in to try to match a foundation, if they don't have a window, or a natural light setting, and testers look dirty, I don't shop there.
All of my own cream/liquid products-foundation, lipstick, blush, gloss...I have to put some on a mirror I use as a palette(until I can get to the art store and buy a few plastic palettes that I use for cosmetics). My cosmetics applicators only touch a sanitised surface. I immediately clean that mirror and store it for next time.
My kohl pencils get sharpened, and misted with cosmetic sanitiser spray.
Mascara I use disposable spoolies(I clean and donate them to rescues so they are worth the expense to me to bulk buy them.
My eyeshadow gets a misting of sanitiser after use, and if I'm not using a palette for a while after sanitising it, I polybag it(probably overkill, but I've never had infections or reactions because of outside nasties growing in them).
I once spent an entire afternoon making my niece clean her tools on camera before we did a makeup chat.
I'm definitely going to try that primer tip though. So neat!
I was so guilty of looking at the stunning photos on Instagram and trying to get my skin to look like that and failing. I'm almost 50 and just came to the realization that my skin looks amazing even if it's not perfect. Thank you for reminding us that most photos are edited!
I think the most important lesson as our skin ages is less is more! Lighter tinted moisturizers and pinpoint concealing makes a world of difference in how the skin looks. Also darkness and/or sparkle around the eyes make eye wrinkles stand out. I mean...have fun with your makeup and do what you want but those are some tips if you want a youthful look.
I am so hypnotized by the neon light reflection? makeup? on your contours. Whoa
Your reaction on the last TikTok is a gold mine!
The girl doing the eyelid trick doesnât even have hooded eyes though. She keeps calling her crease a âhoodâ, but itâs not a hood. đ
