- In this video, I photograph the Mumbles Boat House in my Fine Art Photography style!
Earlier this week I headed to Wales to photograph the old Mumbles Lifeboat Station. I was there for sunset and sunrise. I'm so glad I did both!
I have seen so many great images from here. In fact, it's been on my to-shoot list since before the world turned upside down!

Loved the "disco' sound tract. Made me watch it more than once.
lol Cool 😁🤸♂️🤾♂️ (They're meant to be dancing icons 😁)
My favorite is the one of the boathouse at an angle with the sun lighting it. Great work as always Gary!
Mine too! Very beautiful!
Totally agree, the shot of he shoot… Awesome !
Love to see your videos, always good to hear you and learn
What was that old adage - ''the camera never lies''??!! It wasn't true in film days and definitely isn't now!! Absolutely stunning photography Gary, really beautiful work. As a lifelong Swansea resident I don't know how many times I've photographed the old lifeboat house - and the lighthouse! - but never got an image a tenth as good as any of those!
Kind of you say, cheers 👍👍
Absolutely stunning end results.
Thank you for sharing
Really impressive fine art photography! Thanks for walking us through your process... And the glipse at your stellar editing skills.
Loved this insight Gary, the resulting photos have your hallmarks all over them, fabulous indeed! 👏😀👍
Cracking images Gary, really loved that side light morning image of the boathouse. Look forward to seeing what you do with the Lighthouse on your return
Absolute master !
Great tips and vids, mate, you are the best, look forward to your vids every time, i do learn a lot from U..many thanks mate.
Love your work, Gary. Stunning images - I especially love the sunrise shot at the end, with the light hitting the side of the boathouse 👌 Would really like to see your post process in more detail, particularly removing the rest of the pier and blending the sky.
In this case my favorite ones are definitely those in color ! As you said : it's worth it ! Thanks Gary !
As always, totally enjoyed your adventure
A great watch Gary. Loved the sunrise images, great location, just beautiful!
Fantastic video Gary. I always look forward to seeing your photos!
Many thanks 👍👍
By the way. Do you ever do editing videos? I’d love to see how you edited one of those shots !!
Just absolutely love that style Gary, cracking images love the colour sunrise images but really difficult to pick a fav!! 👍
Cheers Andy 👍👍
Great work Gary - love your videos and work, great plan came together
Every single image is just outstandingly beautiful and I'm really inspired to do this.
You are absolutely one of my favorite photographers. Thanks so much for this! Bravo!
Really enjoyed this one Gary, I learnt to swim in the sea there when I was about 7, also one sunday I got stranded on that little island with my brother because we didnt notice the tide rising, and missed the last bus back to Swansea so had to walk. (Sunday bus services stopped quite early evening back in the 50's), my Mom was out in a taxi looking for us ... so off to bed with no tea that night ... lol
Another excellent video, keep them coming
The Boat House is actually up for sale at the moment so if any of you fancy buying it!
Brilliant images Gary and a lovely location. Thanks for sharing. ATB 🙏😊👍
I visited there about 3 year ago and managed to capture a fine art shot just off to the left of the boat house, removed the bridge completely. One of the reasons why I did this is because I love your fine are and your processing. Fantastic job mate, love it 👏👍
Thank you, I loved all the images that you put on here. You done well again!
Many thanks!
The side lit shot is by far my favorite-- great video
Wow what a great spot. Another great video Gary. Thankyou.
Holy Cow! It was well with the wait to see your final images. Absolutely stunning!
Such an inspiring video, amazing results!
Outstanding images…..Again…
Nice place. Loved your video 😊
Amazing Images Gary, your post processing skills are just brilliant, it was really a pleasure to watch what you did to create those final results, your Fine Art photography is so good, thank you for sharing this with us. As always I'll look forward to the next video. I kept looking at that lighthouse and thought I'm sure Gary will go back for this one.
Cheers Ross. I'll be making a video step-by-step tutorial on how I created this image later this week 👍👍
Great video Gary , like your style 👍
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Cheers Volker 👍👍
Great stuff Gary, enjoyed this one. The amount of work you put into your processing is unreal, shows in the final outputs. Outstanding images

Great stuff Gary. This is a regular spot for me. I live just down the road in Port Talbot.
Love love, the 3/4 golden image. They are all fab but that one for me. Harking back to your last vid at Mach Loop, on SBS here in South Australia we have a fighter pilot series at the Mach loop. I was glued to the screen lol.
Love all the images Gary but the on at 19.25 is an absolute peach mate , Love it !!! Thanks so much for all your time and effort !!! Bob,,,,and yes i was having a Guinness whilst watching lol .
Amazing Images Gary, Your post photo processing is fantastic. I am learning so much from your channel.
I really liked the minimalist mono version as well as the colour version that you took in the evening. Then you showed the sunrise image with the right side of the boat house almost glowing, with its reflection in the water. Superb! Would love to see some of your processing techniques as Morecambe is nearby and offers similar minimalistic opportunities.
Absolutely brilliant Gary . both subject and conditions, stunning images and awesome editing skills
Many thanks. Cheers Jim 👍👍
BEAUTIFUL , BEAUTIFUL work Gary, thanks for sharing your work and your thought process. So many different moods with each finish image I don't think you need to defend your style it IS your ART and remember..." beauty is in the eye of the beer holder".........thanks again, cheers
Lovely images Gary really liked the one with the sun

Awesome, have a good one 👍
I live near there, taken many pictures of mumbles. Hope you liked it there. It's all being repaired and done up at the moment. Doesn't look at its best yet 👍👍
Great end result as always Gary; now on to the member only post processing 🙂
I'm creating the post-processing video tomorrow in the studio Paul. It will be good to goo soon 👍👍
Wonderful Sir 🙏🙏
I came to this location not long after i got my camera. I may have to return at some time . Unfortunately i don't have your post processing skills . Fantastic images .
Thanks for throwing some editing footage in there too
Very nice images Gary. Personally prefer the colour photo`s. But as always your videos are great.
Cheers Graham. I'll be making a video step-by-step tutorial on how I created this image later this week 👍👍
Hello, it is amazing your videos. it would be nice to see how you blend the horizons.
Thanks for the e mail... you have a new follower!! good job!
Thanks for the sub!
Great video and hard without those fantastic editing skills. Done this location several times look at Bracelet bay over the hill for a fantastic view of the lighthouse.. I have an image at sunset I'll post on your FB page.
Impressive editing skills!
Cheers Brian 👍👍
Great image's as usual Gary especially the one with the light hitting the side of the boathouse.
It was a shame that the pier was locked and you couldn't get the shots you wanted.
It just means I have to go back again😁😁 Thanks Tim 👍
Excellent
Cheers 👍👍
This is local to me, I never go there because it’s always full of tourists and the roads get very very busy in and out of Swansea. You’ve given me a fresh impetus on areas local to me, it’s great to see one of my favourite photographers on my patch and your take on things.
I’ve worked around the South Wales coastline for a few years, it’s lovely having my lunch looking out to sea, and some times working at the waters edge 😎
Beautiful images as usual, hard to select a favourite, are you considering a workshop here, I’d love to attend one if you are 🏴🏴🏴
Hi Gary amazing photos I’m from swansea and when you return I would recommend a photo shoot at Whitford light house I think you could create an awesome piece there
Already on my list Chris. Cheers for the suggestion 👍👍
The post-production part (from 13:27) is impressive.
Stunning Gary
Cheers Paul. I'll be making a video step-by-step tutorial on how I created this image later this week 👍👍
@@GaryGough that would be great Gary your work is fantastic
Watching the seagulls disappear when editing reminds me of the fair shooting the ducks to win a prize . We have a winner we'll done Gary.
:) Cheers Ian 👍👍
Beautiful work. inspiring. would you consider doing a long video on the editing process from start to finish at near real-time speed?
Lovely video and art work, personally I`ve would have fixed that roof, keeps attracting my attention once I`d seen it..
I did think about it too :) Cheers Patrick 👍👍
I shot there in March, I'm probably going back this weekend, I'll probably try and shoot the lighthouse this time :)
Have a good one 👍👍
Great work Gary. Have you done a video on post processing techniques used here?
Wow wow wow... Gary this was amazing m8. Did you do all this with just light room? Wow amazing. Wish I knew how to use my Lr like you.
Adobe ACR and Photoshop. Lightroom doesn't offer layers so you have to use Photoshop.
It's easy to learn... garygough.co.uk/members-only
Cracking images of my home turf ...next time your down go to weobely castle and walk out the old military road into the estuary and photograph the ww2 lookout...you wont be able to do it with the tide in though as the tide comes on faster than you can run and it's a 1.5 mile walk but it's safe enough when the tide is out
I'll look it up, cheers 👍👍
Great Video, Thanks Gary.. My home town. Did you ever get back to shoot the lighthouse?
Not yet no. I will though :) Cheers 👍👍
Hallo Gary, wunderbares Video.
Hey Gary - I’ve watched this three times over the past several months and now have a question for you. How would the straight on photo of the boathouse look if you removed the dark area under the boathouse and replaced it with the sea? My eye has a tendency to wander to the right because it’s a lighter area. Love all of these videos and I’ve started into fine art landscape because of them. Thanks a bunch!
Gary , I love your work ,you have to do a video on how to remove like the land at the back of a photo to mark a fine art photo can you do that?
I have made lots of videos on this… garygough.co.uk/members-only
I shoot this place all the time as it's 20 minutes from my house. There is a good view of the lighthouse from the next bay around mate. It's called bracelet bay and there is a big car park next to the beach😁 I shoot the boat house at sunset and the lighthouse at both, but sunrise is best.
I spent hours photographing the Lighthouse too. I might make a separate video 👍👍 Cheers Andy
Bit disappointed Gary thought you were going to sort the roof on the lifeboat station as well ‘Gary Gough roofer and photographer’ 😁
:) I did contemplate re-roofing the old girl but I quite like it's charm
Fine art reconstruction is growing on me very nice end result. What is the file size after all that editing. Im snuggling to stay away from your blogs.
That will depend on how you save the file. The file is less than 10mb if you save it as a jpg which will be perfect for printing.
Is it possible you could make a video on how you so perfectly blend out the background in post please. Preferably on something more complicated like these were. Now I see that you remove everything around the subject. That has now added a whole list of local subjects in to my head, that I can take photos of and do this to. Which up to now, I've thought this won't work because of all the crap that's in the background or around it. I can certainly see it makes it a lot easier to remove the crap using long exposures.
