    Important. You must first make sure that the "Common" wire that you mentioned first is Actually the Hot ( Live, power )wire and connect That wire to the timer device.

    Thank you for the video. Trying to use the ST01 timer switch on outside lights that are controlled by two switches. On my existing three way switch the wires that I would connect to the red and black wires on the timer are both the same color. How do I know which wire to connect to the jumper wire on the other switch that controls the lights?

    It doesn't work like a tree way swicht.
    He had to turn it on one side and turn it off on the other

    Is the wiring done the same way if the ST01 is used at both junction boxes? Specifically, the jumper wire? Thanks!

    This 'how to' has some information that the other Intermatic ST01 installation video doesn't have!
    "Dan" says @ 1:49 " Make note of the color of the wire you connect to the BLUE wire from the timer".... the first video doesn't mention this at all.
    Why have 2 DIY's on line and only one has complete information?
    Other than that no complaints!

      @dng3521 Před 5 lety +1

      I believe the other is for a single pole installation -- where there is only one switch that controls the light -- you do not use the jumper cable for those, etc.

    The video states that this equipment requires that your switch has constant voltage. There is no attempt to explain this, nor is a redirect provided to useful information. My own search does not yield clear information about how to evaluate my switch, much less a helpful definition.

    how is common black? thats not code

    • @MDB94
      @MDB94 Před 5 lety +4

      The code you are referring to is the white (neutral or grounded conductor). The common on a 3-way does not mean neutral or grounded conductor. All 3-ways have one common wire, and 2 traveler wires.
