Which GIVI system do you think better fits your bike, the Monokey or Monolock? Why?
Why do they have 2 types anyway? Ridicules. They need to phase one out and just have the entire lineup on it. They don't make small 1 helmet monokey cases which would be nice to be able to use as well on the monokey plate.
@@lowspeed2000 The monolock is designed more for lighter day to day use and has less weight capacity. It is less durable and the materials aren't as refined as the Monokey boxes. This allows MonoLock boxes to be sold for less money but they are perfectly fine for day to day commuting.
If you plan to longer distances, invest in the MonoKey, they are more durable, have a higher weight capacity and the quality is just better. It's a better long term decision to go with the MonoKey system.
My top case is an STR 31 lt and it vibrates.... any suggestions... could someone give me the mfg website? ty
For me, cost was the primary motivator so I went with mono locke on a '09 Kawasaki klr650. It has served me well. Klr's aren't quiet so rattling, if any, can't be heard. It holds allot and I love how it can be removed and carried like luggage. It has a few minor negatives but for the price, I'm satisfied.

GIVI top boxes are excellent but their different mounting systems, coupled with a bad website with very sparse information, is an absolute pain to work through. You know it's bad when you have to turn to CZcams to find out if you're buying the right GIVI parts. Wouldn't it be great if GIVI made ONE simple universal mounting system that fitted ALL their top boxes or is that asking too much!

@@twistedthrottle I eventually worked it out myself and bought a Givi OBKN58A Trekker Outback 58 Litre aluminium top case and a Givi V40N Monokey 40 litre top case. But, the whole two-system thing that Givi have come up with is very confusing for people. Basically, the Monolock system uses lighter boxes and is built for smaller vehicles, like scooters and small capacity motorbikes. The Monokey system is more robust; the cases are larger and are built for bigger motorbikes. Similar names with very similar fixing systems, but no explaination what the difference is in their catalogue at the time I bought my cases - very frustrating! Then, there are the different fitting systems: racks and plates, etc. I bought a new bike, but was left scratching my head when trying to work out which plate I should I buy. It turns out the one I needed had been updated, but, again, no information to tell you this had happened and the old one was still on sale!
One fixing system for all Givi boxes would be far easier for customers to understand. I'd just go with the Monokey system, that would allow customers to be able to fit any Givi box to any vehicle. I would love a small robust aluminiun Givi box, something around 10 to 20 litre capacity, just to hold my toolkit and a few other things, safely and securely. Sadly, I can't buy one and have had to order a small removable soft case from elsewhere.
The cases are very good, but watch out when you use the Givi V40N Monokey or a similar case, you can lock your keys inside the box. Not great if your ignition key is on the keyring, you're in the middle of nowhere and you're on your own! That should never be allowed to happen, it's a really bad design flaw. Why Givi allowed that to happen is beyond me. It doesn't happen on the bigger cases, such as the Givi OBKN58A Trekker Outback 58 Litre, so could've been designed into the red button locking system fitted to the smaller plastic cases.

As a Givi user for over 30 years, I think they should drop the Monolock system and then have two types of boxes at varied sizes, of different qualities. So the issue over "mounting" would become history and all the customer would need to decide is whether they invest in a standard 25 litre, 35 litre or 45 litre OR the budget versions of said sizes. Or is that too logical?
Very logical. Givi's current system akin to a government operation.

Don't think you mentioned that monolock is also the pannier system Givi use and the cases can be used as both pannier and top box.

I've used an E350 monolock case across 3 different motorcycles now. All sport tourers and adv bikes. Awesomely rugged and worth every penny. Even for a "lighter duty" system.

I don't understand why speed makes a difference between mono lock and mono key.
The monokey plates hold on just that little big tighter so can take bigger loads and forces.

You can't get to the top of the bolts without taking the box off first.
@@twistedthrottle You can get to the bottom of them though, which is enough if you have a small (electric) impact wrench, possibly a 90-degree one. All of these systems with exposed bolt heads or nuts really suck, only few use actually secure mounting systems sadly.
the main problem with these monolock system is when the pins below bends or break specially when it bumps.
I have no choice because there is only one plate which supports U LOCK which is M6M monolock.I did not understand why Givi did not make monokey version of M6M.
I have used MonoKEY cases for years on sport touring bikes. I prefer the sturdier mount and construction for long distance touring.

Can anybody suggest or recommend a spray lubricant for regular maintenance for not just the box lock but for the mechanism which holds the box to the rack?
You can use a little bit of WD40, turn the key, use the button a couple of times, then you could use some silicone white grease spray. A couple of sprays, the same, turn the key, use the mechanism a bit so that the grease penetrates, and you're done 👍

You didn't mention holding capacity. How many litres. That's my main concern.
The part number given to the case tells you the capacity. So V46 is a 46 litre E52 is a 52 litre.
Why is the monokey for faster motorcycles when speedlimit for both types are the same?
I never really understood why Givi deem things that way I've used monokey boxes on big bikes no problem, small and big bikes are designed to carry passengers so can probably hold a box that's 1-3kg heavier......

There is not a specific mounting option for that, but as long as you have a tubular style rack on the back, you can mount using the universal plates.

I have a 2017 Honda CB1100 ex and have been trying to decide what top case would be best for the bike. I do want the ability to store two helmets and it’ll need a backrest for my wife. What would be your suggestion for me?
Hey Frank thanks for reaching out. This Topcase rack from GIVI: goo.gl/BkJ9qr which can support both the monolock and monokey top cases (adaptor plate is sold separately) could be just what you need. GIVI's website doesn't offer any information as to whether this product still fits the 2017 model so we can't confirm that this will fit your bike, but it is the latest offering. As far as which I would recommend, if you want to fit 2 helmets into the one case any of the mid-40 liter (45, 47) offerings in either the monolock or monokey fit should suffice. I hope all this helps!

GIVI strongly not recommended.
I bought GIVI blade B37 top box 2 months ago and have been facing numerous quality related issues. Contacted GIVI Italy/ India and they refused to even look into the problems seriously and displayed care a damn attitude towards these short falls.
After my personal experience, GIVI made me believe that they are an overrated, unprofessional and arrogant company to patronise with.
1. The base plate rubbers are made of material which tends to stick to the top box. Due to this this, every-time I remove the top box, the rubbers sticks to the box and come off. The first time this happened, I lost those rubbers on a highway and then, had to go and look for them in the middle of the night. If you lose these mounting rubbers, your top box will rattle crazily and will that will eventually damage the base plate/ box.
2. The top box cover hinge has a play and due to this, the cover continuously rattles.
3. The packing rubber inside the box and the cover not fitting well. Shouldn’t that be the case, the point 2 above may not happen.
4. The push bottom of the box cover is not very smooth. I have to press really hard to push open the cover. This is dangerous, as the bike may come off the side stand and fall due to this push. I have to be very watchful and have to keep a hand behind the box while opening it.
Shared all the concerns and videos with GIVI and I was quite flabbergasted by their response and reaction.
They strongly made me believe now that their customer service/ satisfaction is Rock bottom.
Highly overrated brand and I am in process of making a full review video of this box and posting it on CZcams shortly. Once done, will share the link here too: 👍
After using this box for 5000 odd kms, which is a mix of city, highway and off road drives, I feel one should opt for a much stable, stronger and permanently mounted top box like orange candy, Motocan, etc, as GIVI seems to be more super bikes and highway centric design and not made for an adventure bike like Himalayan, which is made to withstand constant vibrations/ beatings.
After the above mentioned experience and shelling INR 1,3000/-, I felt deceived and humiliated by such an awefull experience.
I on the other hand had the exact opposite experience with Givi USA. After a decade of use, the gasket on my top box was leaking. I emailed Givi and they sent me a new gasket free of charge. The other really good thing to note is that Givi hasn't changed their mounting method in 30 or so years. So the topbox I bought in 1992 still works on their latest racks.
My only real complaint against my mono locke box is the Italian sprezzatura curvy design which makes it difficult to strap things onto or around the box in contrast to a square or rectangular box. On the plus side though, I can sure stuff allot of clothing and other luggage stuff in there. Another negative for me is the grainy rough surface. I can't stick reflective stickers to the box without them eventually letting go and flying off.
I love the way the box can be removed and carried like luggage into your hotel room or wherever.
Cost was the prime motivator for my Givi mono locke. It is on an dual sport bike and I'm 99% highway/road rider. If I was to go off road I'd probably take the box off. Agree about the rubber pad things prone to coming out but a little gorilla glue should take care of that.
Overall, this box has served me well through several long trips and daily driving/grocery getting etc.
