- Okay, I wasn't expecting to build two B-17's this past year. I bought this in the early summer and the more I looked at the parts the more I wanted to build this kit! I guess in a way I couldn't resist as the B-17 is my favourite aircraft.

I'm 64... When I was a young teen my best friend's father flew in this very squadron Box "K" and was a ball turret gunner. He always told us great stories about how he went thru 3 planes because they were so damaged, and he always kept the altimeters which he proudly displayed on his desk. I also never knew how colorful his B17 really was until one Christmas the family gave him the 1/32nd B17G Monogram model. Wayne was into HO trains and was a very experienced modeler, and when he finished the B17 I was shocked by all the different colors on the model and thought for a while maybe he lost his touch and went overboard painting his B17 with all those bright colors. One day his wife showed me a rare color picture of Wayne standing with all his crew along side his B17 and was blown away how he duplicated the exact color scheme on his Monogram model... It was then that he began to tell us stories of the crazy color schemes of those formation lead planes, with the polka dots and other wild colors. From that point on I really began to become a real war airplane nut.
That's really interesting, your father was one of the few who survived that terrible campaign, over Europe I believe? Or perhaps the Pacific?
But anyway, I have always loved the nose art, where each aircraft had its own name, emblem, or motto, this gave the airmen some kind of morale during their activities.
Thanks for letting us know that as there's not many of those old airmen around anymore, thank you!
A "1/32nd B17G Monogram model"? :) Nobody ever told me!
A 1/32nd [scale] B17G Monogram model? Tell me more, please!
Nice modelling of TNT Katie.
And a nice memorial to the six men who died aboard her when she was hit by flak over Oranienburg on March 15th 1945. Elmer Diefe, Bob Stephens, Costas Ivos, Bob Renartson, Allen Swem and John Piccardo.
Pilot Henry Chandler, Navigator Dave Skalka and Bombardier Sid Murachver survived and became prisoners of war.
Lest we forget.
Really stunning, lifelike representation, with a beautiful paint job. This was a great video to watch - detailed enough to keep my interest, at just the right pace, with any information needed on screen. Thanks for sharing your incredible skills with us lesser mortals.
Sanding the propeller blades to the right thickness is real dedication. Fantastic overall result.
Thanks Mike, I'm puzzled on how they could have gotten that thick and were never corrected by Airfix, even at 1:24th scale they'd be too big. But it was worth it in the end, it took 2 hours to sand then all, but I'm glad that I did :)
Impeccable. Flawless. A kit to fall in love with for real.
So gratifying to see a master modeler at his craft. Video was equally well done. Many thanks.
Great job.Airfix getting stronger and stronger. Thanks for sharing.
I'm always excited to see what they'll come out with next. The design and engineering on their new Avro Vulcan looks fantastic!
absolutely gorgeous model. well done!!!
Stunning! I remember doing the earlier Airfix version with my dad when I was a kid. It didn't have so much interior detail.
One word! WoW. Love the metalic variation and chipping effect
Thanks Wayne, I'm glad that you liked it as that was a lot of fun to do :)
I don't usually go for silver aircraft , but she is gorgeous !
Impressive, convincing and very well executed.
Espectacular...! Great and beautiful finish for an 1/72 model.
Excellent build and well done indeed!!... This is an aircraft I will definitely be looking to purchase after seeing your stellar effort!... Cheers G!
Looks fantastic,well done 👍.
The B-17 turned out Fantastic!!!! Nice Work!!!!
Good to see you back on deck....hope that things are getting better for you. Great job btw....amazing all round.
Getting better day by day. I actually was pretty much glued to my table today, today was good for modeling :)
Beautiful build.
That is an absolute stunning build!!
WOW just wow, I was so lost in your video, so well put together and the video editing was excellent. Thank you
Wow. You've got great skills. I'm very new and see I've got some ways to go. Thanks for the vid brother 🙏🏼
Superb work. Well worth watching your video.
beautifully done!
Excellent! I still haven't tried to paint an aluminum aircraft. You inspire me and encourage me to give it a go some time. Model on!
Thank you Russell :) I can understand that natural metal can be daunting, but I really like these VAllejo Metal Colors paints. I have had a few issues with them lifting, but I solved that by adding a few drops of Future/Klear to the paint and that solved the problem, now they really grip to the plastic.
The mighty B-17. A beautiful build.
Absolutely stunning! I wish my airfix b17 looked half as good 😮
Bravo 👏 fantastic results my friend.
The engineering in the kit looked impressive too.
Keep safe and best wishes to you.
Hugh. 👋👍
Thanks Hugh. There's a bit of a fit issued with the interior of the Cockpit, but aside from that, it's a pretty clean and easy build :)
Nice one! Well done with the prop sanding too
Stunning build....
....wonderful work!
I never thought of using Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color in my airbrush before! Great build.
Nice finish , looks great
That is quite a beautiful build. Well done Jared!
Thanks Tommyboy :)
Jared, i have watched you build a 17 or two over the years. This one has to be my favorite. great job.
Thanks, that means a lot :)
Job well done! I love it!
Stunning. Between tyat metal and that striking blue you've done something very special
Thanks TWA, once I found this scheme I just had to build it :)
@@rebelsatcloudnine can never go wrong with that combo:) If I knew how to do natmet, blue would be a frequent theme lmao
I have a B 17 Army Green Die cast model 1:83. Appreciate the intricacy involved in making this Kit and fitting it back together. Kudos to you. 🎉🎉🎉😮
Looks fantastic....
Stunning result!
Amazing modeling skills!!!
Amazing job! I’m looking forward to building this kit.
I'm sure that you are going to have fun with it. I bought it over the summer thinking that I wasn't going to build it, but once I got started, I ended up having so much fun I couldn't put it down :)
Beautiful build, I mean it. Thanks.
Fantastic vid. I have the 1962 Airfix version in the stash.....It's older than me! - thanks for the inspiration
@Incog Nito Yes. That's the one..
Brilliant, bravo!!👏👏👏👍👍👍

Great Job... Compliments!!!! 🤩
Very well done!
Awesome model even better modeler !! I'm working on the revell top gun f14 1/48 right now . Learned a few things from you for sure man !
Very nice(as usual) keep up the good work!
built one in 1976 bit of a story when I was 16 visited my Uncle with the family interstate (Australia) he was a dairy farmer at the time so I was bored walked to the local town about 6kms and bought this kit from a newsagent ended up chatting with him for quite a while turned out he was a gunner/navigator on the B-17 during WWII - wow what are the odds
That is pretty awesome and a great way to get some fist hand account on details about the subject :)
Amazingly detailed :)
Great work! Respect
Good job nice work looks real.
Beautiful build!
Thank you Drew :)
Excellent build. My favorite is the OD B17F, but this was an outstanding job on the G. Very impressive and realistic. Great talent involved here. Thx for sharing
I recently found a scheme for a lovely Olive Drab F model, I have to agree it would be fun to build another :)
@@rebelsatcloudnine Well I was equally impressed with your Memphis Belle build. Plexi on the nose mod was really something--great talent
i like this plane and the style you build it
Fantastic work on the B-17G buddy 😊👍😍
Thanks Warren
Outstanding!
WOW! Thanks. You don't shake as much as I do.
Very good Job!
Super thanks! Good video, good model.
Great build and video.
Thank you Dean :)
Looks good.
Well done.
Wow nice job.
Welcome back! Hope you are feeling better.
Getting there, good days and bad :) I'm slowly getting back to my modeling.
great job
Hello mr. Cloud.greate 2cu putting heart and soul into that ww2icon.
I build an memphis belle by revell in1994.thank u4sharing.with sticky greetings from sandy Brandenburg/germany.your modellmate.christian
Pleasure to watch that was.
Very Nice B-17, the 8th Air Force nerd in me has to point out that 447th BG markings should also have yellow tailplanes/Horizontal Stabs and the wing chevron ID to denote the 447th BG within the 4th Combat Wing was dark blue not black. Still looks a epic build you should be proud of.
I was wondering that myself. I seem to remember them being dark blue and not black also. Easy fix if you were of a mind to. Nevertheless, one fantastic build of this iconic aircraft. Jumps to within the top five of the Forts I've seen built on this channel and certainly much better than I, myself could accomplish!
great work nice vid
Great finished result I'm currently building the airfix 1/72 fortress ..milk waggon..should have it at Telford model show 2023 ...Paul Atkins
That is awesome, I can't wait to see that :)
A work of art
A very much better looking tooling than that old "A Bit O` Lace" model I remember having back in the `70`s.
The peeling of the windows.satisfying
When it goes right, yes it it :)
Well done you!
Wowzers Man!!!!
Espectacular
Keep up the good work 👍
I'll try :)
Wonderfull miniature. I always watch Your materials with pleasure. Great modelling skill my Friend. Btw style Your movies is really good - fantasic montage, quality and music. Best wishes and regards to You and Your family
Thanks as always Kap, best wishes to you too :)
What a stunning build. The best I've seen. There are many including David Damek but this is number one. Who is this model's author? I bow before you.
Bravo!!!
outstanding
OMG...!!!! Biblically AWSOME build....MUST get one !!!!....neeeeed !!!...want !!!....must have.....!!!!!!!
Thanks Jerry :) I think you'll really enjoy this kit :)
Amazing :-)
One day I mite be as good as you . top job.
A fitting tribute to the 8th AF. Half of the U.S. Army Air Forces' casualties in World War II were suffered by the 8th Air Force (more than 47,000 casualties, with more than 26,000 dead).
you are an absolute master artist.
Thank you so much :)
thank YOU...i have a collection of unbuilt kits and you have inspired me to treat the models as art, not just as a throw away pastime, which was slowly eating my enthusiasm to build. but you have taken model building and elevated it to an art form...and when you think about it, that's where the model build belongs...as art rather than accuracy. i mean of course accuracy is penultimate but art...that is the difference.so many want to examine perfection and accuracy but watching you build...i realized that only a master craftsman/artiast, with many hours/ years of practise, can lift the plastic model to examination, not just of the accuracy but including accuracy in the art of creating the spirit of the times the model is to represent. and the message that the builder is trying to convey. You conveyed the drama, the environment and the spirit of the airwar in ETO in 1944-45. just looking at your model brought the images of eightth airforce england. i imagined the rain soaked aprons, the tow tractors, the quonset huts, the fuel trucks, the bicycles, the ground crew and aircrew, the missions to be undertaken as the windsocks filled with air...and the sheer terror of the flak, the fighters and mid air collisions... and bomb laden taxi collisions... and everything else during those distant days...man, you caused all this.. again, i must say..that..you are an artist of the first rank... and i will study every thing you do in your builds and use what you do to try and make my models better...but whether i can capture the spirit of the aircraft and the time in whgich it flew...well...i can only be your disciple but never to surpass you, only to learn from you...thankyou, xxxxxjane@@rebelsatcloudnine
@@janehill9764 Thank you Jane, I'm the son of 2 professional artists, and there are many days I feel the art gene skipped me and went on to my siblings. You are one of a very few people I feel I can have this type of conversation with, and that is true to your expressions I do find my modeling to be more of an artform than s simple plastic puzzle. Thanks for watching and for your comment, and best of luck with your future modeling projects :D
@@rebelsatcloudnine thank YOU very much! i'll keep watching and enjoying your work as it turns into an expression of the times the aircraft lives or lived in. i will use your tricks of the trade to improve my models...mostly your spadework will rekindele my joy in building again...thanks so much jared...jane.
Absolutely beautiful, man. 1 tiny little thing: the colors and insignia you paint are of the 447th BG, which included yellow flashes on the vertical stabilizer AND the horizontal stabilizer, minus the elevators. You painted only the vertical stabilizer. I’m sorry for being a massive dork and possible push-over, but sometimes tiny things like that get me.
But again, it is a beautiful model and aircraft and I look forward to watching of your vids!
Thanks, Brian :) I studied many pictures of 447th B-17's trying to find any pictures of TNT Katie, to confirm whether or not the stabilizers were yellow or not (and I looked through a ton of pictures). The Kits-World decal sheet/ painting guide has them as silver so I simply went with that. In all sincerity, you might want to consider passing this info onto Kits-World. As I mentioned I simply decided to follow what they had displayed on the sheet as I couldn't find any conclusive evidence for this particular aircraft :)
fab build! my favourite aircraft i would be interested to know more about the RAF version that came wit the kit. i knew coastal comand used B17Es but never realised bomber comand had Gs!
I wish that there was a new tooled E model on the market, I've seen one modeler convert this kit into an F and E model, it's a lot of work but his results were worth the efforts.
They only had a few which were classified as Fortress III`s and they were used as an early type of radar counter measures aircraft with a lot of additional arials and a radome instead of the chin guns.
Это одно из лучших исполнений покраски самолетов, которые я видел на CZcams.
what an amazing build, and finished kit! was wondering though, how did you get the spacings equal on the propeller decals? i usually try to do it by eye (not always successful!) or cut a piece of tape at the distance i want, measured from the centre to where i want the decal.
Nice
The grip on the razor knife or the grip on a thimble rolled over the clay would look more realistic just roll it over the clay leaves the diamond pleat you’d be looking fir I believe
That's a good idea Steve, I'll have to remember that for the next B-17 build I do :)
bella maqueta👋👋👋👋👋
Great
Beutiful is all I can say now.
I'm sorry that I waited so long to watch. That is a beautiful build!
you know ,you got to love watching these guys they’re really good at what they do but I wish they’d get rid of the music and do more talking and explaining
I think it depends on the voice. I tried to watch one on the Airfix 1/24 Hellcat and the guys droning monotone voice made me give up. Plus you've then got to have subtitles for a foreign audience. It's more accessible this way, imho.
Sometimes watching with the music is like meditation. It just soothes the soul.
Saving this video for when i gain the courage to build my b17... any tips for a newbie whos not done a lot of weathering?
I think the best advice I can give you (and this is coming from someone who isn't good at weathering) A little bit of weathering usually is best. There are too many times when one can get carried away weathering and it becomes too extreme and unrealistic. Gradually weathering and taking time to stand back and look at the model from a few feet away helps out a lot too.
I also try to keep photo's on my computer that are dedicated to real life weathering that I take when I'm outside. This includes unique stains that I'll find on vehicles or chipped paint, which is sort of easy given the amount of farm equipment in the area haha
@@rebelsatcloudnine thanks mate! 👌🏻
