A fabulous advertisement for the kit! What a beauty!
Thank you very much, very kind of you😉☺️
Great video. One point to make though. The leading edges of the wings are rubber deicing boots, they would not be weathered with chipped paint. They would stay black or rubber in colour. These rubber deicing boots appeared on the B-17, B-24, B-29 and C-47 and C-54
Thank you for the information, definitely a let down from me… obviously just being lazy and not doing my research. I’ll make sure to improve for next time😉
Many cammo B-17s in Europe also had these removed too. There's footage of an out of control B-17 in cammo, in a spin, and the bare metal L/E is reflecting.@@ultralowfat
@@machmodels Came here to say this too, FYI, de-icing boots are still in use today - the ATR-42 ATR-72 and Dash 8 are among some aircraft using this method.
@@MillwalltheCat You can see deice boots on the B-17, B-24, B-29 and C-47 and C-54. I imagine the twin engine B types could have them or not depending on how they were ordered. These were rubber pneumatic boots.
@@MillwalltheCat Please provide information about this. Icing conditions in the ETO required deicer boots
I was in Dallas about 15 years ago and visited the Commemorative Air Force museum. I saw their B-24 come in to land and taxi to the hangar I was standing at, coolest sight ever. Nice build btw!
Oh wow! That would’ve been a sight and a half, thanks for the comment😉
Great work, I’m jealous - the model isn’t available down under and you guys are already building…
Thank you! Fingers crossed it’ll make its way down there soon!😉
If you have a friend or relatives in Blighty you could ask them to post you one for your birthday 👍🇬🇧
It’s available on eBay.
I love the way the wings slot into the fuselage, a great idea.
Me too! It made the painting much easier as well!😉
Excellent job building and painting and detailing your Airfix B-24H Liberator!
Thank you very much buddy!😉
Awesome job! I've always loved the liberator. She's an unsung hero of the war. The B-17s and Lancasters got all the glory(love them too), but the B-24 just chugged along, bombing away lol
Thank you! Haha yup I must agree, oddly one of the better looking ones as well!😉
My great grandfather was a tail gunner on a Libby. Family ties to the bird aside, I love the high wing and tail on the old girls.
It’s great you mention hannants , Carmel , mick and Adie are so helpful with good advice. Nice build btw
Thank you - definitely, all top class gents😉
Thanks for sharing, very informative and inspiring 😊
Thank you very much buddy!😉
Excellent video! That's a really nice looking Liberator, de-icing boots notwithstanding 😉
No worries, nothing that can't be fixed by a bloke of your calibre, if you felt the urge 🤣😂
Great stuff 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Haha thank you very much… yes perhaps I’ll lay my hand at it later this evening, many thanks for the comment😉☺️
Ahh the squiggle squiggle motion - best name for this technique I've heard so far. Great build Mach I love watching your builds and your talk throughs are on point and so helpful
Search it up in the dictionary… it’ll be there!! Thanks for the comment buddy really appreciate it😉☺️
Surprised that with all of the great interior detail there’s not a crew. Really nice build.
I’m sure there will be extras at some point for it!☺️
A 18:40 the 'metal reveal' chipping shouldn't be there. The black strips are pneumatic de-icing boots, which are cycled to make a 'creeping' surface to break off ice deposits and safeguard the aerodynamics. The aircraft wouldn't be signed off as fit to fly with the boots inoperative and puncture repair patches can sometimes be seen on boots at full scale. Hope this helps - otherwise an excellent model.
Thank you very much for the comment! Really appreciate the info, seemingly just pure laziness from me and below par… I’ll work on it for next time😉
My grandma built Liberators in Ypsilanti, Michigan, while my grandpa fought all the way from Guadalcanal to Luzon.
Wow! Thanks for sharing!
This has to be the best 1/72 Liberator I’ve seen. I can’t believe it’s Airfix. When did they start using this new plastic? From what model? I’m used to excessively soft plastic and short shot parts but good over all shape. This is a quantum leap.
Great job, by the way.
Thank you very much, airfix have been using this new plastic for about a year and a half now😉
I visited Hannants a few years ago and wondered around the front office pretty unimpressed until one of the staff mentioned the warehouse at the back. WOW...it was like going into Raider of the Last Ark model warehouse floor-to-ceiling boxes of kits!!!
Hahaha model heaven right!!
Great video on a great subject. Nice to see simple yet well detailed kits like this being produced. While I wait for a new tool 1/32 F6F Hellcat to be produced, I’ll be adding this B-24H to my stash.
Cheers
Thank you! A worthy place in the stash☺️
Who knows maybe airfix may go for the privateer with a bit of luck😊
OoOooOoo now that’ll take my fancy😮😮👌🏻
The rivets on the panel lines is exquisite!! Great detail all around..
Crazy to see this on 1/72!!
It is also worth mentioning that the RAF museum is just up the road from Hanants
Oh yes!
Spectacular build, it looks a great kit too
Thank you very much buddy!
Fantastic Build Luke , wonderful airbrush work and super quality video , thanks for getting this out there 🙏😎👍
Thank you very much Tony! Appreciate the comment😉
Great build sir, Airfix have definitely upped their game.
Thank you buddy! Absolutely!😉
That leading edge is rubber, it's a de-icing boot. No chipping.
Thanks for the information! Below par from me, just laziness. I’ll make sure to do more research next time😉☺️
@@machmodels Nice build overall though! cheers
This was a delight to watch. I'm going to pick one up because of your video.
Thank you very much sir! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!☺️
It's a splendid build and I'm thinking of buying that kit for myself. Hopefully the decals include an RAF colour scheme as scores of Liberators served in the RAF due to the Lend-Lease Agreement and I prefer them in RAF livery..
Thank you very much! I think I would definitely be making another one of these when an RAF version comes out!☺️
Fabulous work sir! Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it☺️
Other than the rubber de-icer boots...Awesome build!
Thank you… doh yeah I know, appreciate you letting me know😉☺️
A wonderful build and what a nice paint job.
Thank you very much bud!☺️
Enjoyable video build of a much anticipated release from Airfix. Both do not disappoint 👍well done.
Thank you very much sir!😉☺️
Phenomenal build, I really enjoy these videos - I've learned quite a few tricks from you. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much! Glad it was of some use☺️
Nice kit and model and a bloody good commentary/narration/explanation of building said kit and model. 👍🍺
Thank you for such a kind comment😉☺️
I loved this. Your skill has me green with envy lol. Brilliant work.
Thank you very much! Haha, hopefully the video shares some of the process helping you to get a similar result😉
Beautiful work ! Nice video ! And I've learned a lot. Thank you 👍
Thank you very much buddy! Glad you enjoyed it😉👌🏻
beautiful work! very impressive............ well done
Thank you sir!
Very nice build Luke! Well done.
Thank you very much buddy!😉
Great stuff. Really Enjoyed it! 👍👍
Thank you very much! Great to hear☺️
Great video and awesome build. My one arrived today, and after seeing this, I might just make a start on it this weekend.
Thank you, go for it!!!😉
Amazing work! Love the narration as well.
Thank you sir! Appreciate the feedback☺️
Bloody well done.
Thank you very much!😉☺️
A very nice kit build B-24H Liberator bomber four engines props. I like this warplane bomber this build completely. ❤😊😀😁😎🤓🤩🤝🤗💯🌟🌟 My favorite warplane.
Thank you Neil for the comment!😉
Great job and some wonderful tips
Thank you very much sir!😉
Stunning 😍
Thank you very much Duncan!😉
Great build! Took your advice and picked up the resin seat for the miniart kit you built! Glad it came with the seatbelts from HGW. Thanks!👍🏾
Thank you! Glad the seat helped you out😉
FANTASTIC, Video, Great work, Thank you, Mach Model.
Thank you very much sir! Really appreciate the kind words😉
lovely build of a lovey looking kit. well done buddy.
Thank you buddy! Really appreciated☺️
Perfect build 👍👍👍
Haha not sure about that but thank you very much!😉
Lovely work 👏
Thank you buddy!😉
This looks like a really good kit! You did an amazing job. 😊
Thank you very much Drew!😉
Great Job. Congratulations!
Thank you!😄
Hi Luke, that was a extremely outstanding build/painting and weathering finish, on the B-24, congratulations on a job very well done, bedt regsrds from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Thank you very much Les, really appreciate the comment😉☺️
Brilliant build
Thank you very much buddy!😉
Looks amazing,as always!
Thank you very much buddy!
Nice work Luke, looks great.
Thank you John!😉☺️
Looks like a great kit and it's a great build
Thank you very much sir!😉☺️
A very nice build!
Thank you very much!😉
👋👍 Looks great, well done
Thank you!☺️
Like a match made in heaven! The best modeller, the best kit! I had my fingers crossed that I would see a larger bomber aircraft some time soon! Keep up such amazing work!!! 😁
Thank you very much Kieran! I may or may not have a couple more in the works😉😉
Wonderful build. I’m sold and looking forward to these getting to US hobby outlets soon.
Thank you very much! Fingers crossed it gets there soon😉
Goddamn another beaut!!! Incredible job my friend!!! Cheers!!❤😎
Thank you very much buddy!😉
Terrific job on the B-24, really like the camo scheme and the method used to create shadows and fading. Well done Revell for including so much detail. I built a Revell B-24 kit back in the early 1970s (as a young teen) and recall that the details of the interior were basically non-existent, except for some bits and pieces in the cockpit. BTW...I enjoyed the Mosquito build :)
Thank you very much! However, this is Airfix not Revell😄😉
@@machmodels OOps....my mistake....I meant Airfix not Revell. I have Revell on the brain at the moment as I'm building the its 1/32 Ju 88 and it's driving me insane with so many issues. I did build the Airfix B-24 many moons ago and it was a very basic kit then so it's great that, in the intervening years, there have been major improvements in the quality of the new kits. Bravo Airfix!!
awesome job
Thank you buddy!
Incredible build! Couldn’t help but notice that you put black chipping on the leading edges black. While some aircraft did have black leading edges (I’m not sure why) 90% had a black rubber edge that could expand to break up ice on the wing. Hope this helps for future builds!
Thank you very much for the informative comment! I’ll bare it in mind for next time😉
Nice looking kit, and great build. I might have to pick up one of these kits.
Thank you bud! I highly recommend!☺️
In the stash
A deserved place😉
Two of my uncles were in the 8th AF and flew B-17s.
... they mocked the B-24, saying "it was the crate that the B-17 comes in".
😀
Hahaha! Thanks for the comment😉
Brilliant build Luke, and those battered leading edges look fine to me, so don't be so hard on yourself. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Paul, really appreciate the comment☺️😉
Really cool 🛩
Thank you buddy!
Amazing build! Could you make a video showing your entire collection on display? That would be inspiring.
Thank you very much! Perhaps in the future!☺️
GREAT job ! My pop flew the 24 in the MTE, 50 missions, six over Ploesti. I must have ten kits of the D, J and H model BUT I NEED this one.
Thank you! Wow that’s incredible!
The B24 while parked had the ball turret retracted into the fuselage. Only once it has become airborne did it deploy into lowered position. It had to be this way because of the tricycle landing gear. Idk if you encountered any problems with affixing it due to the design aspect.
Great tutorial, you showed some techniques I’m going to try on my current B17 build. The interior ribbing especially.
I’ve been itching to get this one since I saw it online a week or so ago. It’ll probably be my next kit purchase. Haven’t seen one in stock yet in the states though, at least not wildly overpriced for a 1/72 kit anyway ($70 usd). The detail is such I wouldn’t mind paying up to $30 - 40 though.
Glad it helped!! I’d grab one of these if you can, it’s worth every penny!😉
SOOOO good it also helps that the b 24 is my favorite american ww2 bomber
Thank you very much! Hmmm I do love the Liberator but the B17…😍
Thats soooooo pretty...
Thank you sir!
The only problem I see with the execution of the kit, and it does detract, is the leading edge of the wings, tailplane, and rudders are deicing boots. There would not be the chipping of paint with these boots. If the boots were removed for combat, the base color was the color of the wing, in this case olive drab. Yes, that is picking of nits, but an important detail. Over all, I really liked this build
I have now masked them off so it’s a tiny bit more accurate, thanks for the information anyway!☺️
Beautiful built B-24H. It looks like an amazing kit from Airfix.
It sure is! Thanks for the comment😉
Hey:)
Great job on your B-24... i think that you made a small mistake (but i am not 100% sure):
The leading edge should stay black as these were actually rubber parts glued on the metal leading edge.
Very nice work non the less.
Cheers
Thank you very much for the informative comment, I guess it shows I have a lot more learning to do!😉☺️
Fantastic work on Airfix B-24h that has to be much better 1/72 scale b-24 kit but I know a Airfix RAF Liberator kit is coming next year.
Haha if I was a betting man I think I know what I’d put my money on - thanks for the comment😉
I see the wheels we're not out of shape - looks like it's not a comon issues.. I'll build as soon as masks are available ;-) Nice jobs and I think the topside colour looks good!!
Thank you for the comment sir!😉☺️
A nice build Luke. Just one question, how do black rubber de-icing boots weather back to give silver looking wear? Happy to discuss this next time I see you. Nigel
Thank you Nigel, I guess a mistake like that shows my age and lack of knowledge. Apologies for the inaccuracy😞
I was wondering how you can have chiping on the rubber too
I don't know if all b24s had de icing boots.. I guess you have to research what plane you are doing...if ur into that kinda thing...in the end it's your model..just be prepared for the experts to come out of the wood works if you post to social media... All I know I did a B26 and chipped the leading edges on the wing like you did and got my ass reamed by the experts......until I posted a pic of the exact plane that I was depicting that had no deicing boots. All in all nice job.
beautiful Mach !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you bud!😉
Absolutely cracking build! You certainly managed to get that one out quick - i've not even looked at the webpage for this new release from Airfix yet lol
Thank you very much! Hahaha, one of my personal favourite aircraft so I couldn’t help myself!
Will you be looking to do a build on this at some point? I would be eager to see your take on it😉☺️
@@machmodels I don’t have any plans for this one at the moment, perhaps if I clear my stash a bit more to make some space… might have to do it in a different paint scheme if I do 😂
WOW...
Haha thank you buddy!
Really good model. Note for accurately depicting the leading edge, I believe that the b24 was equipped with pneumatic boots. Much like modern aircraft this is a rubber sleeve on the leading edge that can be inflated to dislodge any ice formation. These boots where made from rubber, so wouldn’t really have any chipping. (Feel free to correct me) hope that helps with any future builds
Thank you very much for the information! I have a b17 to do at some point so I’ll refer back to this😉☺️
And I thought the Airfix 1/72 B-24 I built in the mid '60s was detailed!
Haha got nothing on now days!👌🏻
Super Duper!! :D
Thank you very much!😉
I would have attached the nose sections to each of the fuselage halves, not as two sparate sub-assemblies. It can be troublesome in fit following the kit instructions (Case in point being the Revell/Monogram Ju88A that had an issue with that area - and the wingtips).
Ooo good idea! I’ll have to try that next time😉
Great build! I've just discovered your channel and really like your fast-paced but clear style! My only feedback is that I don't think "fitment" means what you think it means 😃!
Thank you buddy! Apologies, I’ll work on it😉☺️
Brilliant video as always, thanks for taking the time to make them. Could you post a link for the wave scissors please?
Thank you very much! I’ll try find one now☺️
Rivets and fine panel lines on a 1/72 airfix model? Let's see if they maintain this level of detail for their next plane. I never really liked the lack of finesse of detail on recent models, with those basic, disproportionate panel lines. Very good job, this model deserved love and care.
Thank you very much… modern airfix is up there with the best😉
Another excellent build! And good to see a 1/72 kit. Can't wait for the next one 🛩
Thank you buddy!😉
Great looking build, amazed you got it out so quickly too! Do you mind if I ask how you go about spraying VMS varnishes? Pressure, thinning etc?
Thank you very much! No problem, so I like to thin them down 20% and spray at around the 20-23 psi mark… if you are using a 0.3 or lower thin 30% or more😉
I found this video by chance on google. I am very pleased to be subscribed to you now. I think your process and video explanation was so helpful. I like how patient you were with the airbrush. I will definitely try your methods. When fitting the finished sub assemblies, you mention cementing. What do you use and do you remove paint at the attachment points? I have the 1/48 hobby boss kit and only hope to do it half as nice. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much! Glad it was of some use, to get rid of paint along attachment points I use a cotton bud soaked in thinner!☺️
60-40 thinner:paint seems to be the magic number for Mr. Hobby, Mr. Color, and Tamiya, doesn't it? Got a pressure rating you spray with? I'll even convert it from Barr to psi.
Sure is! 1 bar, 14/15 psi😉
@@machmodels thanks
Excellent build of what looks like a great kit. Too bad it's not a D model. It would be a nice kit for the Lady be Good
Thank you very much, I would imagine we will see a D in the near future😉
That new tooling is like several levels over the old 1960’s one. Great build. Question: Did they even keep the rubber de-icing boots once the boxcars were in a warzone?
Thank you very much! I believe from my understanding that they where in fact kept in the war zone, I might’ve been a tad inaccurate chipping them to bits😂
@@machmodels You are correct! After looking at various combat damaged B-24s, many still have the rubber boots. As far as the “chipping”… whose to say it wasn’t from a maintenance guy trying to remove the strips? You could always mask it off and repaint with a lovely brownish-black (even pure black if the ground crew were diligent in applying some sort of refinish) … or buy more Airfix B-24s and treat us to another fantastic build - NMF!!!
Excellent job on the build. Looks AMAZING! The only little characteristic that I don’t like, and it’s not anything to do with your work at all, is the landing gear in the extended position. It looks like the plane sits too high off the ground, too much room between the belly and the ground. In reality, I don’t believe the ball turret could be fully extended on the ground. Years ago, I had a 72 scale Liberator and it did the same thing. I always thought it looked inaccurate. The 48 scale Libs were more accurate in this case. Congrats on the build either way! Speaking of 48 scale Liberators, will you be building the new tool kit at all?? Keep up the great work!
Cheers!!!
Thank you very much for the comment, I’m not too familiar on the libs anatomy so I’ll take your word for it!!
Uhhmm if I could find somewhere to put it maybe!😉☺️
Hi very nice build! I'm kind of confused about the Olive Drab paint process. Did you use the Mr Color Middlestone directly on the model or did you mix it to the olive drab to fade the color?
Thanks!
Thank you very much! Apologies, the middle stone was added to the olive drab to create a hybrid colour and “fade” the olive drab😉😄
regarding the leading edges: chipping them is a mistake, as those black edges were rubber. they served for de-icing the wings. (Those were like inflatable gloves on the leading edges, when ice started to accumulate on them, some air were pumped into them and the expanding rubber broke the ice layers.)
Just an FYI, in the MTO (B-24s stationed in Italy),the rubber de-icing boots were removed leaving the leading edges in the bare aluminum. I think the other marking version in this kit shows this.
Thank you very much both for the information… definitely a part of the build that was far below a decent standard and me just being lazy - I’ll definitely work on it for next time😉
Great build Luke. I was recently watching your 1/72 airfix mosquito build and noticed you missed a part of the vertical stabiliser! Not sure if you have fixed since but thought you’d like to know just in case :)
Oh really!!! I’ll go check that out now - thanks for the comment Brian! Appreciate the support😉☺️
