Great video, it's rare to see someone talk about rigging up the camera, but it's so important. Keep the content flowing, you're helping out Cinematographers like me tremendously!!

Same issue with the high pitch noise coming from woodencamera battery plate. Very clean build from Arri! Thanks for the video.

Arri stuff is expensive but the cost makes sense when you consider this stuff will last you hundreds if not thousands of work hours. I mean I've seen Arri Alexa rentals that had 2-3k + hours on them and all the accessories while a bit scuffed still looked great.
I'd be down for more longer videos like that - it's suprinsingly relaxing watching camera rig builds. That being said I agree with some other commenters - the scene could be a bit brighter/less contrasty. I had to crank up my macbook to 100% and even then It was hard to see some details.

I'm a huge fan of accessory tinkering, building rigs and optimizing ergonomics and workflow myself. So thanks for this video, I was enjoying it very much. Also, that Pelican case with the neatly cut Trekpak is truly just chefskiss.gif 😄

What’s so appealing about the Sony cameras is how compact and lightweight they are. It’s kind of a shame to build them out so much, but I’m with you in that the ergonomics leave a lot to be desired. Have you tried working an FX6 into your FX9 workflow for run and gun handheld b roll stuff? My primary owned camera over the last several years has been a RED, but this year I added an FX6 as a b cam. The Sony has been such a pleasant experience that now I’m thinking about picking up an FX9 to retire the RED all together. Wondering how the pair match in log and Cinetone.

They match pretty well. I don't typically run them side by side as I'll usually use two matching bodies.

i had the same issue with my monitor sliding with that same handle so i got the "Wooden Camera 15mm Tube Clamp for UVF Mount and UVF Mount v2" for $95 and it solved the problem

Great video man, nice to hear another shooters rig philosphy.
Love Arri stuff, but not having an adjustable VCT shoulder pad placement is a big oversight for their design. Its better with the Amira and others where it can slide like the Zacuto design.

Nice Arri Pro Set. I have actually not see this set before. For my Fx9 I love my Tilta full cage. Almost mimics this set ... minus that Handle. I really like that handle set up. I wonder if they sell just ArriProSet Handle for the FX9. Since my Tilta Cage has everything else I really like. And because like you said, I do worry about other handles with an Easy Rig.

I do believe you can get the individual pieces. They should be listed on the Arri product page.

I'm seeing descriptions of the bottom plate saying the shoulder pad is adjustable for perfect balance, but from the pictures I have no idea how that is possible. Can you slide the pad around to find the center of gravity?

Thanks for the detailed and thorough video! I am currently considering whether to move towards an FX9 (orFX6) or a low hour Amira. Curious if you have any thoughts on comparison on the image on those two (obviously features are very different). My biggest concern is that the Amira would obviously be a bit older (and more $$$)

Hi Robert! Do you think the ProRes Raw is necessary for great quality over XAVC-I encoding? I think about this camera for a project, but it seems much more cumbersome to add the extension unit at the back. Thanks for the input!

    • @robchado
      @robchado  Před rokem +1

I have never needed the extension unit nor have I seen another production use it. Being locked into FCP is kind of a red flag (for me) and in my opinion, if your project requires a raw workflow, this probably isn’t right tool.

@@robchado Thanks for the feedback Robert! What I'm trying to think is if FX9 is the best investment for that budget bracket I have. I think the image looks fantastic, somewhat more professional than FX3/6 and mirrorless. Though I wonder if I shoot properly with FX9 it can look good when projected in a cinema for example. I didn't find any example of a feature film shot with it.

  • @Cinematographer_brenton

    Nice rig!

First things first: Is that a red? I think the noise issues are due to the voltage booster for the fx9 as it needs 19.4v to function properly. Never had any of my Wooden Camera Pro Plates giving strange humming noises (C200/C300 Plates and regular Plates without extra cable). Super Interesting Video btw. Thinking of upgrading my C200 for corporate work and docstyle productions. The Arri accessories will fit perfectly with my existing aks from XT and SXT.

It's super odd and the sound occurs with both of my Pro Plates and is hard to recreate. It's great being able to mix and match reliable accessories from the ALEXA.

@@robchado Hi Robert, I had a humming noise coming from my wooden camera fx9 plate as well. It was subtle be definitely enough to hear and be a potential issue with sound recording. I returned it for a replacement which does not have the humming sound. i recorded footage of the sound and sent it to them. Wooden camera have amazing customer support.
