Love the TX22, puts Sig to shame. I've been reading random forums and I came across a couple that has rumors of Taurus getting into the PCC game and there is going to be a TX 22 carbine that takes the same mags. And a carbine to go with the G2/3 series of 9mms. Just rumors but that would be pretty cool.

Im 45 and only recently started to shop for my first hand gun. Ive now shot the sig P356 x macro. My wife and i waited a few days before making the purchase. During that waiting time a good friend of mine wanted me to look at the .22lr models as my kids are between 15 and 11, and i want to teach them to shoot. I was affraid that maybe the 365 was too much for my 11 year old daughter. So i started to research the .22lr models. Thats what brought me to this comparison as i keep seeing and hearing more about the Taurus TX 22.

I love this video. I literally searched up “tx22 22lr punch”
In hoping someone made a video of the performance of the punch out of a tx22 standard. And boom, you literally made the exact video I was looking for AND in two additional flavors of tx22!!
Was kinda hoping for more of an in depth difference between the guns (trigger, sights, features etc..) since standard is $230 while the competition is $360 right now, not sure it's worth 50% more. But the ballistics data was nice and interesting, weird you lose so little by going to the compact but gain so much by going to the comp!
A lot of the early standard TX22 barrels had terrible rifling.
That Punch is designed to produce damage by tumbling and works well.
I keep my standard loaded with CCI mini mag hp, and Winchester silver tips (segmenting) staggered in the magazine right now.

It is Triple Threat TX22 Punch time. Way to go Tools, love the rimfire test and the TX22’s is a great collection there buddy. Might try to pick up the competition model. Mine is 100% only with cci stinger, but at least it's 100% with something. For Steel Challenge 100% is mandatory.

I just bought the tx 22 Standard…. Haven’t shot it yet, but will see how it does….. also wanted an easier gun to handle for my wife…. She has trouble racking the slide on her sccy 9 mm.

There are a couple other pistol designed 22lr rounds, Winchester Silvertip, and CCI pistol match precision, CCI also makes a copper 21grain round that claims 1850fps out of a rifle! Bet those would make a good vs video to go along with your punch obsession! LoL... really like the taurus tx models, especially the competition model. I like the mag compasity alot also! Most only got the 10rd mags like the ruger mk4 that I ben telling you to get since you got the first TX or the nightmare f*$%king sig junk, what ever one was first? And you said you got a new tool coming! Can't wait!!! Great content brother, keep up the good work!

Really fun, interesting test. I have the opinion that the compact, if it had a 1:16 twist like the others, bullet would have been slower; tighter twist means more pressure means faster projectile. I REALLY like that compact for .22lr self defense, if you had to use a .22.
And, the test gives me even more confidence in my six-inch MKll. Nice.

Nor the Standard to under-perform the Compact.
Maybe the light rifling on the Standard's bullet is an indication of an issue, like a poor gas seal???
Maybe check the velocities again with different ammo?

@@alm9951 so far I'm the most impressed with the 22 Punch!! Imo, hands down the BEST 22 ammo there is. I'm not that familiar with the other calibers in Punch, but I've played extensively with the 22 Punch and it is superior to all 22 ammo. It even comes close to equal performance to bigger caliber arms. It ripped huge holes, for 22, thru double walled steel drum. It really is my all time favorite for 22!!
Well now this was a interesting video and I really like it. When you do the 22 LR testing. I own a TX-22 competition and I will have to agree with you, It is a excellent and very reliable pistol. However, I have had great results out of my sig p322. I have fired over 5000 rounds through it with no problems and absolutely no leading issues.

The relaxed twist on the standard barrel is relatively short, so the projectile doesn't stay in the barrel long enough while accelerating to engage the rifling. You see that from snub noses in larger calibers usually. I was checking out that base with the cupping actually! When it gets going backwards, I can see why they might call it "punch", like a paper hole punch. Cool Taurus comparison Tools!

This cloth testing gets it a lot cloudier than I like but it's pretty much impossible to avoid that.😆

Fun video. I have all too. Don't know why Taurus didnt include ability to put reddot on original. Standard is awesome gun just like compact and competition. My old eyes love a red dot ready pistol. Good interesting video.

Looks like Taurus and Federal Punch make a great combination for a very light recoiling .22 self-defense gun. I'd say that's about on par with .32 acp and even some .380s. Not in energy, but in the overall performance.
Yeah, being able to dump the entire mag very quickly into a target is pretty huge.

tools after all the trouble you've had with 22 rifling i can see where you might be just a little bit more "antsy" as my grandmother used to call it....but i have to agree with you it does look like the rifling isn't as tight on the standard....another great preformance by the punch and a great jelly fix..thanks tools....

You don't need ears and can accurately put more follow up rounds on target faster than any other caliber

Just an FYI from an owner of both, I loved the Ruger and the Walther, but Taurus absolutely DESTROYS the competition!!! Chances are you overpaid for the Ruger anyway unfortunately. Won't have that issue with the TX22, the original is awesome, but the compact is my new favorite!!

Nive review! Already have the TX 22, ruger 22 LCR was no better than the phonex 22. Better than the sw 22 with hing trigger. Would like to get the compact.
With any of the these tools, with the Punch, I wouldn't hesitate one minute having one for an EDC. People say 22lr is weak, but who wants that mag full of Punch coming at them? Cool test once again!
I carry 22 punch every single day. The tools ability to work right out shines my ability to use it correctly. This 22 punch ammo is very capable

I like my Taurus TX22 Compact and I use mine for daily carry/self defense. My complaint is the magazine spring gets really weak after short amount of time. The gun itself is reliable. I have a Holosun 507k red dot and a light on mine. Taurus needs to improve on the magazines.
Can a standard TX22 barrel be installed in the compact TX22 slide? Even if it protrudes out the front.

Is the competitions performance capabilities worthy of an upgrade from the compact?
I'm surprised the compact did so well. First we're dealing wit a 22 and the shorter barrel doesn't help; however the results were a big surprise. I do wonder if the ammo choice was what really helped?
There's no doubt. This Punch .22lr even makes a NAA mini revolver look like a good edc.😆

I prefer compact but I worry about the accuracy - compare to longer version tx22. If there is a significant difference between 3.6" and 4.1" ? As a beginner I'm slowly getting better with Glock 19. I'd say that my progress is painfully slow. So I hate to go with a shorter barrel on my first .22
I wonder what the tx compact would do with the 60 grain aquila sss with that 1:10 twist. Especially at distance. Great video buddy. Maybe get a pattern at 10 yards and try to hit the block at 30. That would be something different.

I have had and traded so many 22lr that just sucked and not cheapo not pro's but the tx22 has performed better than any 22 I ever owned striker fired 16 round magazines 2. And included thread adaptor one half by twenty eight I got mine when they first came out so the price with the factory refund was just over 200 bucks taurus had a so so rep but this gun eats anything hardly ever jammed and miss fires where from cheap ammo as well as maybe 6 jams one round was bent but taurus tx22 know matter witch one you buy has a nice feel in the hand it dose not look like another gun on the market I really like the compact but even my small hands I would rather have a full size pistol my two walther 9mm and my ppq 45acp tactical are full size so if you are going to train you want a size close to your carry guns I.M.O. great video very informative.

Can you check the penetration of the 22lr punch and 50yd accuracy in a 22 rifle? Say a 10/22 or something with over 16" barrel?
I'm wondering how they will preform in a longer barrel, function, penetration, and velocity.
This might become my new varmint hunting round.
I've done a few tests with them from an 18" 10-22 at a distance in the past. The veloctiy and penetration is crazy from the longer barrel.

Have you ever tried out the Winchester max subsonic 42gr hollow points? They are fantastic out of a rifle, don’t have high tech jelly but in my water jug tests they routinely expand to .40. Would love to see you test!

Thanks for your TX 22 video. Nobody that I know of has tested all three models like you have. The compact displayed more velocity than I would have thought.
Thats a lot of penetration out of a 22 LR handgun. You sold me on the TX 22 compact, my next gun I will be buying. I also like the holosun sight you have mounted on it with my 72 year old eyes it will make it a lot easier for accurate shooting.
