Stacie was so underrated. I can't believe she never got nominated for a Grammy. Her pop songs have real messages and she is an amazing vocalist as well. I remember watching this on TRL and was impressed with how she was able to compete in the mainstream against all the other girls who shed skin to sell (Ashanti, Britney, J.Lo, Beyoncé, Christina, etc.)
She was nominated for Best contemporary Gospel album in 2004 for this gem, her sophomore album. You're totally right, she was compiting with the other girls without getting naked or selling a bad girl image.

I'm seriously surprised a pop song has such meaningful lyrics. These are probably one of the most meaningful lyrics I've heard in any song, coupled with the video, the insight you can get from this video is incredible. There is more to life than all of the experiences accumulated. The happiness, the freedom, the contentment is not within the experiences, no matter how diverse and plentiful. It is hidden in plain sight. It is right where you are...but only visible once you stop looking.
Awww! Haven't heard this song in a whiiiile lol. Glad YT recommended it today. I remember my teenage self singing along to this song while it's playing on MTV. Great times. Now I'm 34 and this song hits on a different level. Like frfr!!! But hey, life keeps going and we should too. Thanks for the quick time travel. ❤ Missing the good old days!
Is funny when this song came out I loved it, but I didn´t get the real meaning of it since I was only a teenager worried with my "teenager problems", but now that I´m 26 and I know how the "real world" works, these song gets a deeper meaning, I know I'm sure I´m not the onlyone am I?....
When I was in my teenage years I sang along to this while watching on MTv not knowing how deep this song was but now I can relate so much to this as an adult.
Same! I bought this on CD, and used to blast it out in my bedroom, knowing the lyrics, but never understanding them on a relatable level. Now as an adult, this song is actually really sad to listen to, because I feel every lyric. Life sucks most of the time as an adult, apart from the occasional temporary high.
Never related to a song more. I feel i lived like all these scenes. Domestic violent relationship, lost my son, working pay check to pay check to pay for my shitty one bedroom falling appart appartment. Now hes out of my life im working to get into police as a domestic violence officer and working to get my son back. You cant change the past, but if you're just living your wont ever be happy.
I can relate also! I was a violent relationship for six years, I've been evicted, I've lived pay check to pay check, heck I've even danced when I was really struggling! I also kinda lost my two sons, I had them taken away but by the grace of God my mom was able to have them. I hope ur doing ok hun, and I hope u get ur little boy back! Never give up!
I once asked Stacy Orrico on an online chat as to the meaning of the final scene. Apparently, she was looking in sadness at all the 'unsaved' people... Food for thought.
Such an excellent song, catchy pop music with a great message. There's gotta be more to life. Can't believe it's been 12 years. I feel old as a 25-yearold.
No one is ever unjustifably depressed. I know how depression works better then any doctor but spreading my beliefs is near impossible on this planet so hopefully i can help some people here. Depression comes from a lack of needs. When an individual lacks a basic necessity need such as money, a home or food, a dependent need such as friends, family or loved ones, or an independent need such as self acompolishments, completed goals or self worth they will feel depressed everytime they realize they are lacking the need. Depression is curable and it is cured by finding all of the depressive factors an individual has and attempting to solve them. People with severe depression could have 4 or more depressive factors but they can all be solved if doctors knew anything about depression and how it worked. Medication only makes the individual forget about their depressive factors it does not solve them so depression will remain until all depressive factors are solved. Anyways my point is nobody is unjustifiably depressed. Most people will get depressed if they lack any human need throughout their life. More awareness of how depression works and how to solve it would help millions but doctors are to busy selling drugs so drug companys can make money to find the truths i know. Hopefully this helps someone out there

Hope things start looking up for you bro Hold you head up King. Don’t fall into the rat race… the same generic stuff people are brainwashed to commit their lives to. Look deeper and think about what “You” want. Often makes life a lot simpler and less pressured. Don’t live your life to impress anyone.
Great song. This is what people are forgetting. You think this life is all about getting millions, having the most expensive cars, biggest mansions, hottest partners, trendiest clothes, and unquenchable fame? A lot of people got those, but guess what? They still kill themselves (abruptly and gradually). Because, indeed, there's gonna be more in this life than chasing down every TEMPORARY highs. :-)
This was a wonderful song it show cases just why the industry's in such a mess nowadays cause they only care about money or top houses, cars, women or top brand name clothes or sex in videos
I was 11 when this song came out, now I'm 22 and I still know every word of this song. I love it, it really appeals to me and my life. Really hoping she comes out with more music soon!
According to society you would not be able to build a house, grow vegetables, have your self water system, construct a car and even not bei able to teach yourself how to drive, you'd need someone to teach your kids, extinguish fire, you would not even be able to make music, or invent a website where you can share or play your music, and the worse of it, society thinks you are not even able to protect yourself in case of agression and that you would call the cops instead! So they ask competent people to do it for you, and that's how some of them have to work! /sarcasmEnd ... Well, our society is really not perfect but if people have boring jobs, most of the time they are either unable to do otherwise, or they can admit it's a good price paid for all the other things that this society can provide us. Just don't be this unemployed guy who pretend to hate society, but just takes what he wants from it, leaving the shit to the others. Most people and so do I have a job that does not please them, but just see the pro and con of leaving it. Most people get to the conclusion that if you are not happy with your job, you have still no choice if you are seeking happiness in another part of your personal life. It's shitty but that's why most people, and so do I, would like not to work but just can't leave their job easily. There are good things in this society, we could not necessarily be on our way all alone.
Jessica Delisha love ur comment, its relevant to the song message and context rather than loving the song and about her the artist. I also love it, really connecting with it as of late.
9razzler9 I heard it once in the animated movie 'Robots' and just had to find out the name of it afterwards. The scene in which I heard it was very short, however, so I just gave up looking. A few months ago I got the bright idea to check the Wikipedia page of the movie, and I found it! (Why didn't I think of it earlier? No idea)
If you are one of the person who was there when this song came out, i hope by now you have sorted out your life. Don't let another day goes by without figuring it out with God. You were 18 then and now 40 today and 60 comes very quickly before you realize. Psalms 90:12 o teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom
This song is so deep. For me it speaks of how we are wrapped up in samsara, living through the highs and the lows, another birth, another death and in this all we are wondering: There's gotta be more to life... and we ask how we can transcend it all...
I was a teenager back then when this song came out. Somehow made me feel nostalgic for something i hadn't lived yet. Now I'm grown up and it all makes sense.
When the song came out, it was the most played song for its tune and of course its Stacie singing it. Now that I've hit my 30s, this song speaks my heart out in wanting to do something more than just the regular 9-5 daily job.
This is such a good song. I think pop used to be so much deeper back then. I mean this was trendy and all, but it has power and heart. Most pop today lacks this and it’s about generic lyrics to sell 🤷🏻♂️
Triggers me when people say they miss the old days with all the good music that it had, not like todays music. It's not gone people!!! You can still listen to the old music!
I was srsly obsessed with this song tho. I would literally wait until like 2 to 3 am for the song to come on cuz the radio station back then would recycle 40 songs for 24 hrs. So when I hear this song play during the day, I'll wait for it to be replayed again some time later.
February 13th, 2023… at exactly 8:27 a.m., local time here in Stockholm, Sweden. And I’m still jamming to this gem of a song, which has been a soundtrack to my life since it was first released in the early oughts. Its lyrics have always resonated with me, but now that I’m 33 years old and not just a 7th grader going to Math class back in the U.S., they hit different. Man… I don’t know what it’s gonna take for me to finally find that “something that’s missing.” I keep chasing every temporary high to satisfy me, but it’s still not enough. There’s gotta be more. But where is it? How do I find it?
Jesus is that “more to life”. Stacie also sings about that. Just ask him, read the Bible (get to know him). As you know him more you can ask him to be your Lord and Saviour and he will answer with a big fat YES! From then on you will be refined by him (which is hard on believers), but your heart will always be at peace and joy filled through it all and for the rest of your life with him. It is a huge win for you, forever. He is where the joy is. You are already so loved by him. 😊
It's an organised mess. We have a corporate job we really don't like. We spend most of our time with people we don't care for. Sunshine, fresh fruit and veggies, genuine laughter and aimless meandering all seem to be long gone. Not to sound terribly morbid, but like it's starting to feel like I'm just waiting for the end.
WOW!!! Where was this song? I had to close my eyes and let the song take me back to my youth. This is crazy. I used to listen to this song over and over before the internet was on every phone, before every phone was in ever hand and before every hand was always protesting something. Listening to the words now I can't believe how meaningful this song is. I listened to this pop song a million times but I never really understood the message until today, now that I'm listening to it as an adult. I'm sad that the world doesn't really create music with content this meaningful anymore. I'm still relatively young but I'm glad I've lived long enough to see the difference with my own eyes and recognize the self-fulfilling prophecy in the message. Take me back to the days associated with the nostalgia that I feel listening to this good clean song because I want to tell my younger self to listen more closely to the lyrics...

Courtney I same, I turn 27 in May... been feeling down lately.
also 27 and this song rings true
I feel like that I literally lived all these careers. And life got me down, Domestic violent relationship, son taken away, job after job after job, finally away from him working to get my son back and studying somestuc violence. You gotta find what makes you happy or youre literally just living till you die. Almost 26 and remember listening to this om saturday morning music. Life was easier back then. But you cant change the past

Absolutely!
Cannot believe it has been two decades since this chartbreaker was released! Stacie Orrico truly was a pioneer!
Man what a fucking tune. Im a metal head now but happy to admit this shit makes me feel alive again dude. This was a truly golden era of music where pop music were actual songs with instruments and shit. I wonna feel this alive again man.

Stacie was so underrated. I can't believe she never got nominated for a Grammy. Her pop songs have real messages and she is an amazing vocalist as well. I remember watching this on TRL and was impressed with how she was able to compete in the mainstream against all the other girls who shed skin to sell (Ashanti, Britney, J.Lo, Beyoncé, Christina, etc.)
correct. I believe this particular song deserved at least a nomination for best female pop vocal.
She refused to give up her integrity for a piece of metal.
She was nominated for Best contemporary Gospel album in 2004 for this gem, her sophomore album. You're totally right, she was compiting with the other girls without getting naked or selling a bad girl image.
Devout Catholics are never welcome in Grammys
Cuz she's a Christian not freemason artist!
Yea, yea
Oh ohh, yeaaa
I've got it all
But I feel so deprived
I go up I come down, and I'm emptier inside
Tell me what is this thing that I feel like I'm missing
And why can't I let it go
There's gotta be more to life
Than chasing down every temporary high
To satisfy me
'Cause the more that I'm
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life but I'm sure
There's gotta be more
Than wanting more
I've got the time and I'm wasting it slowly
Here in this moment I'm half way out the door
Onto the next thing, I'm searching for something that's missing
There's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more...
I'm wanting more...
I'm always waiting on something other than this
Why am I feelin' like there's something I missed...
There's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more to life...
Than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me
Cause the more that I'm...
Tripping out thinking there must be more to life
Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more to life... life.
Ohh... more to... more to... more to life
There's gotta be more to life
Ohh... more to life... there's gotta be more to life... ohhh

Those days when I would sit in front of the tv watching MTV with all the good music videos playing back to back 😢
The realest lyrics you'll ever hear in a pop song. I can't listen to this without shading a tear.
Neither can I :(
I can't listen to this without thinking what the hell i'm doing with my life...there's gotta be more...
Stand by Jewel is a meaningful pop song too.
That's mainly because it subtly expresses the Christian faith which Stacie has which not everyone knows about
Watching in 2019.
This is the ultimate existential crisis anthem of Millennials IMHO

In your 30s, this song hits harder and harder each year that passes
Is funny when this song came out I loved it, but I didn´t get the real meaning of it since I was only a teenager worried with my "teenager problems", but now that I´m 26 and I know how the "real world" works, these song gets a deeper meaning, I know I'm sure I´m not the onlyone am I?....
Certainly not the only one!

Song telling people to find a purpose in life. That's hella rare nowadays.
This song helped me quit smoking and I’ll be forever thankful for your music, Stacie.
Cassandra Fowler prayers to you 🙏🏽
I can relate also!

Omg I totally forgot about this song. This was my jam when I was unjustifably depressed in my early teens.

According to society, the meaning of life is sitting behind a desk for 40+ years barely being able to survive
Right!!
So well explained, thank you 👏🏼
It’s so sad.
Yeah and it's normally a job you hate smh
According to society you would not be able to build a house, grow vegetables, have your self water system, construct a car and even not bei able to teach yourself how to drive, you'd need someone to teach your kids, extinguish fire, you would not even be able to make music, or invent a website where you can share or play your music, and the worse of it, society thinks you are not even able to protect yourself in case of agression and that you would call the cops instead! So they ask competent people to do it for you, and that's how some of them have to work! /sarcasmEnd
Screw society 🖕😜and do what you want

Most people look at old videos and reminisce old times but if she released this today it would still fit today's culture.
Holy shit i havent heard this since i was 11 (17 years ago).. really listened to the lyrics and i am blown away how good this is
We're getting old
I've just come across this song, brought back sooo many memories ☺️🥰
She looks so good with that huge curly hair!
Ya'll that were teens when this song was released, how's your life now?
It's an organised mess. We have a corporate job we really don't like. We spend most of our time with people we don't care for. Sunshine, fresh fruit and veggies, genuine laughter and aimless meandering all seem to be long gone. Not to sound terribly morbid, but like it's starting to feel like I'm just waiting for the end.
Truly blessed. Serving the church. Great job. Loving family.
One of those songs you understand more as you age - who else knows the message of this song?
Ah the beauty of the early 2000s :) I wish I was a kid again!
Yasssss still one of the best song ever made.
There’s gotta be more to life then chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me…Absolute poetry wrapping up 2022 and wanting more for 2023 🎉
