    She has a point there though. The tactics used by Biggest Loser are unrealistic. That's not to say that they didn't have good pointers or support, but contestants are in an environment that is not realistic to everyday life. They should be taught to incorporate healthy eating as a lifestyle, and weight loss should be something that is slow as to prevent gaining weight back. Life's interruptions should be incorporated into changing eating habits, and that's the other thing -- these people have lived a life of making bad choices, so it's going to take a while to break a habit, reeducate and retrain themselves to make healthier choices. this is something you can't achieve in a tv show.

    People complaining about the first woman don't understand. Crash diets are not healthy, the practices they use on the show are horrible. When they put you on such low calories and high amounts of exercises your body becomes used to that, your metabolism slows down to bare minimum. Once you leave the atmosphere of tv pressure, surrounded by coaches, and return to the real world, it's a very different thing. As soon as they stop doing 8 hours of exercise, and begin to eat closer to 1800-2000 calories a day rather than a starvation diet of 1300, their body immediately begins to convert the extra into fat because the metabolism is so slow.

    • @domydishes
      @domydishes Před 8 lety +8

      it takes far less work to maintain a shape than it does to get to it

    • @charlesmartin9724
      @charlesmartin9724 Před 8 lety +5

      +domydishes You've either never lost a significant amount of wait or are and extremely low calories or just don't know what you are on about. When you diet your bodies metabolism begins to slow down this is so your body can function efficiently. If you then decide after dieting to increase your calories to maintain weight your body starts to have excess energy which it will store as fat within the body. This means people who have to lose weight in excess amounts are very susceptible to gaining a lot of weight back. So its actually a LOT harder to maintain a weight than to keep getting skinnier.

    • @domydishes
      @domydishes Před 8 lety

      Only if you starve yourself, if you eat every 2 hours its not a problem. Ofcourse people who start to stuff their face again and barely work out anymore will gain weight. It takes less to stay in shape then it does to get in shape. It probably takes more will to never go back to stuffing your face again if that is all you want to do, but the actual physical workout takes less to maintain than it does to achieve.So you can cut back a bit but not completly. I've gone to fat to muscular. Its not something you do for a few weeks or months and stop, its a lifestyle change, and these people obviously didnt change their life. Its probably why they needed this program as well; they needed constant supervision because it was not something they could do on their own, or even maintain on their own. I spendt many hours every day to quickly shed the excess and after that maybe just 3 hoursb at the gym per week and no senless eating, at least not very often Theyre sterotypical fad dieters.This proves only that being in shape and being healthy is more of an issue of the mind than the body. They were physically able to do it, but not mentally able or willing to not go back to their old ways. The notion that these people had to live the rest of their lives devoting as much time and work as they did while on this program to simply not become obese again, is ridiculous.

      +Anthony Roberts The show doesn't promote healthy weight loss. Our bodies aren't designed to take off 30lbs in a week and remain healthy! The amount of problems that contestants have had with horrific stress fractures, organ malfunctions and failures.... it's horrific! Reason they aren't able to take it off is because their resting metabolic rate is use to 12-16 hour workouts, and such restricted calories. That when they do return to trying to eat healthy, and being healthy... their body slaps on the pounds at an alarming rate. Why? Because of the immense stress that is put onto the body to put it into a crisis like mode. The Biggest Loser doesn't promote a healthy life style, they promote instead a crash course diet and dangerous eating habits and life style habits. It's the very reason why Jillian Michaels walked from the show. After she saw how horrifically poor the contestants were being treated, and how it was they were being taught to view themselves, she vowed to not work for them.

If there are two middle aged women, one weighing 700 pound the other 150 pounds and they both do 30 mins of moderate skipping the 700 pound woman would burn more calories than the 150 pound woman. 1 pound of fat = approx 3,500 calories and if an 700-1000 lbs person burnt 10,000 calories that day that means they have lost around 3 pounds. If they did that amount of exercise for 7 days they will burn 21 pounds in that week.

If you are eating a PROPER diet, you shouldn't have a problem with any nutritional deficiency and if you do, they make supplements for that. It really is about will power. A caloric deficit is the ONLY way to lose weight without surgery, so saying it is the WORST way is ridiculous. Please finish high school before posting on any more health related topics.

    • @alicenirvana
      @alicenirvana Před 8 lety +1

      +aguedafescuca This show is completely different though, there's a reason people are dropping 20lbs in a week. Jillian Michaels left because of how poorly the executives treat the contestants and trainers will force them to work out despite injuries and against doctors orders. Show has gone downhill from the first few seasons in order to get such drastic weight loss. Many contestants on the show have severe injuries and have had to get knee surgery as well as others. Diet and exercise is great, but the Biggest Loser is extremely dangerous to the people who are on it. Psychologists have analysed contestants and have found some of them exhibit Stockholm Syndrome. It's pretty sick what they do for good ratings. There's a huge difference between healthy weight loss and destroying a person's body.

  • @soo-jinkweon2786
    @soo-jinkweon2786 Před 8 lety +17

    Studies have shown that most diets fail and the majority of dieters regain weight and go back to where they started after 5 years. Of course, there are the small minority who maintain the weight they gain. However, the industry that sells diet pills, weight-loss programs, gym memberships, protein powders, gym equipment, etc. etc. wouldn't make as much profit without dieters losing weight, regaining weight, and going through the diet cycle over and over again. I think it's important to think long-term and make healthy life choices regardless of weight gain/loss. Some people are perfectly healthy overweight. Some people are very unhealthy with terrible eating habits and are "normal" weight. So definitely ignore the weight gain/loss (even though social stigma will tell you that fat is bad so diet, diet, diet) and focus on healthy eating habits. Eating less than 2000 calories per day like that contestant did because some "doctor" told her to is very unhealthy. It made her lose weight but it must have taken a toll on her health.

      +Soo-Jin Kweon you're right, most people have the "temporary" mindset of "I'll eat this way, exercise and lose the weight, then I can go back to eating what I used to". It does have to be a lifestyle change, which means for the rest of your life. And many people in natural health say it's more the food you eat or don't eat that affects your body composition/weight than exercise (80% food vs. 20% exercise according to Mark Sisson). It doesn't have to be difficult, I wish more people could know this. Another way to exercise is called eccentric training = 20 minutes or less, just one time a week. For anyone interested, look up Jonathan Bailor.

An average (not athletic) 30 year old woman that weighs 150 pounds and stands 5'5" tall only needs 1400 calories a day if she is sedentary. 3000 calories a day is the amount a sedentary 30 year old male needs if he is 7 feet tall and weighs 400 pounds. This whole notion of one set number (2100 calories or 1700 calories) is ridiculous. It varies from person to person depending on size and activity level. The contestants would starve themselves the last two weeks of the competition to lose the most weight. Most ended up with kidney infections and eating disorders by the end of the show. They also didn't care about anything but losing weight, regardless whether it was healthy or not. If weight is lost in a very unhealthy way, it will be easy to gain back one you go back to your regular eating habits, healthy or not. I'd do some more research on how cruel the people behind this show were, because it breaks my heart to see so many people permanently damaged from this. Okay, there is no excuse for gaining back 130lbs. Your metabolism is adaptive and no amount of ‘messed up’ metabolism is going to make you gain that much weight back. Suzanne clearly binged after the show and did not maintain a healthy lifestyle. If she did, she wouldn’t be so heavy now. Gaining back 10, 20, 25 is fine after the show, that’s normal but there is no excuse for gaining everything back and more (+130lbs). Now she is blaming the show for her lack of self control. I’m not saying the show is perfect. I don’t deny that they most likely advocate unhealthy restriction and rules but it’s not their fault she’s a fat ass again. You can’t just come off of a diet and expect to maintain a beautiful physique. You have to work hard for it, every single day. Suzanne didn’t! 🤷‍♀️

My parents wanted me to be thin and quick and i lost like 39 pounds in 1month and a half by exercising 2-3 hours per day intensely. I felt so tired so depressed i had to check everything i ate and exercise again and again. I had to just decrease the amount of exercises while eating LESS ! I gain all the weight in 2 month and i put on more pounds that i lost !!! Than i decided to do eat simply by having a healthy lifestyle. I lost 50 pounds in 10 months. Never put it again.

    TV is fake, everybody knows that. Even reality shows only simulate reality in dramatic ways, otherwise it would be kinda dull and not entertaining enough. I know myself that a lot of what happens on TBL is staged, but at least it's entertaining and motivational for me. Other thing is, if she hasn't learnt anything from the show (basically having a calorie deficit at the end of the day in order to lose weight) then I'm not sorry for her. Itis so simple. When you don't eat enough to fuel your body, it is going to go into starvation mode. Once it does that you may have screwed it up for years. That is why calorie reduction diets so rarely work.
    Eat a low fat, high carb, whole food, plant based diet and eat as much as you want. If you have had calorie restriction in your past, you may initially gain some weight while your body heals, but once the healing process is over, you will naturally go to your optimum weight, with a bit of exercise.

Even Olivia has put some weight back on since she won, not all of it but her final weigh in size wasn't sustainable obviously. She still looks great dont get me wrong but its unrealistic in the real world. Because when you restrict your diet the minute you come off of that diet, and extreme exercise regime your going to pile the weight back on twice over.

    Throughout the show the trainers always say do not be ashamed about a low week. I do not think all people are built for what the show does and that is why so many gain more back and give up. The problem is, if the biggest loser cannot make you learn how to keep it off of course you are going to be bitter afterward. On the show they talk to contestants that have failed and told them you have to find a balance between the extremes of the show and how to stay at a healthy weight when you cannot workout 12 hours a day.

  • @rnegoro1

When you only eat 1200 cals a day and exercise away 1000 cals a day, when you go back to the real world , you gonna start eating 2000 cals/ maybe more back and exercise 0 cal a day. Isn't that obvious ? Instead you have to keep consistent with better habits and maintain somrthing doable.
