@@DMS-pq8 yep agree, you associate certain musicians with a certain sound. Madonna always had a new image and sound which I never liked , but then I listen back throughout the years and enjoy the artist again .
That's why he first left DD. He wanted to do harder rock that DD wasn't interested in doing. So he does a bit of everything. It wasn't because of a big fight. Other then Nick being a duck not wanting to do other things that the rest of the group wanted to. He figured that since he was the main founder of the band. That he could make the band do what he wanted. But see what happened? Both Andy and John left for Power Station for a couple years. You should read Andy's book.
I think this was a really underrated album. Andy is a wonderfully amazing singer, and an even better guitarist, and though I´m a full and proud Duranie, I´m glad Andy did this. He was too good not to have his own spotlight.

He did have a 2nd album that wasnt released in the states called Dangerous. It was mostly covers I believe. He does an awesome cover of Dont Believe A Word by Thin Lizzy on it.
The Power Station and his solo career unleashed the true Andy Taylor and "his" sound. This brings back so many memories. His music was iconic even though not nearly appreciated as it should have been. If anything, at least many got to hear a tune on Miami Vice when the Ferrari Testarossa was "introduced."
duran was chock full of talent...Arcadia, power station, and Andy all splintered off and had hits...Andy's guitar was the essential ingredient that pushed them over the top in the states...his iconic riffs on the early songs separated them from the other new romantic/ new wave bands...its no wonder they were so huge. killer rhythm section, Andy adding rock flavor , Simon's unique vocals, Nick Rhoades is like a mad professor directing it all while he wasn't even 21..killer freaking band

Awesome album! Steve Jones played on guitar on this album. This album and Jonesy’s “Fire and Gasoline” came out the same year which kicks ass big time.
pity Andy wasn't more successful as a solo artist, he would have fit in with the 80's hairbands perfectly!!! this sounds like alot of songs on Bon Jovi's New Jersey and I think his came out first.
Sorry, but there's no truth in your statement. Duran Duran was never a product created by managers. This was merely just assumed, I guess just because they were a bunch of good looking guys and attracted a huge female teenage fan base. They did their own thing, wrote their own songs, played their own instruments, did their first gigs at the Rum Runner in Birmingham in the late 70s. As a long time fan, I'm so fed up with these false assumptions.
Truth!! Duran Duran created themselves from the ground up starting with Nick and John! They built that band with no outside help until later when they got the Berrows Brothers (Rum Runner days) as managers. 👊🏽👍🏽
This was the real Andy Taylor. Technically in every band, there has to be constant negotiation and teamwork. Within a group, one is always bound to lead while the others tend to follow, and he just happened to fall in as one of the followers. That sort of placed him in the shadows as a DD member.
This album ended up being part of the reason why he quit DD. He liked doing this kind of music and he got sick of fighting all the time with Simon and Nick, so he just refused to come back for "Notorious" until they threatened to sue him, and then things were so unpleasant that they finally just let him out of it.

Andy Taylor was a like a little boy trying to escape dettention in Duran Duran. From the beginning he was like a odd man out. More of a rocker and a vibrant guy whereas Simon was all melancholic slower song type of guy. He held on for couple of years but then got tired of it. People and opinions change and clash all the time. That was the case here. What a shame because they somehow gelled together despite their different contrasts. Duran Duran produced some freaking amazing albums in the 80s especially early 80s with Andy still in. Guitar rifs in Girls on film, Planet earth, Reflex, Wild boys I can name many of their songs. I love them all. Even after Andy left Duran Duran had some amazing songs. Notorious for example. But they defo switched to a different more dark and mysterious theme. I think 1985 was their weakest year. View to a kill is the only song I remember from that year. Album also had a large contrast in songs which is ironically the year Andy left. He was tired of it simple as that. He wanted guiter rifs and blasting on a guiter and Simon was not that type of guy.
I feel for Andy. Had he not joined Duran Duran and pursued a rock guitarist career weould have seen him in Bon Jovi or Thunder etc deffo would have been a rock legend. As it was he made the first 2 albums for Duran Duran what they were. Deffo got told to tone it down for 7. Duran fucked him in the end, but made him at the same time. Just fabulous!
Fields of fire burn in my sleep
I hear screaming and thunder and cries
Devils crowd under my feet
Scream so loud
Under here lies a different face
In a hungry lonely soul
I guess it ain't easy
When you don't know which way to go
Don't let me die young
I'm begging you
Don't let me die young
I never liked the thought of pain
And time is all we have to gain
Gotta play anyway
Win or lose
Who's to say who's to blame
When everybody wants to run away
They ran by night
They can't face to in the day
