  • The guy selling this colony said I could turn around and sell everything inside for $5000! Let’s see if he’s right or if I’ll even make my money back 🤔

Wait he said he was selling you 5-6 totes with 20000 to 30000 in each, which is at least 100000 roaches. I am kind of confused about the end but you got around 5000 total? What the hell?

Dubias breed like crazy. I had no idea how prolific they are. I was thankful for my pet bullfrogs. They ate them all up. I ended up with far too many roaches.

Are the spacers necessary? What do you use them for?

Hi sal,I’m wondering how did you balance the numbers for daily selling and how many should you keep to breed?

Sal how did you separate the males + females into two totes? Did you do it manually?

I have two ways I do it, I either A pull out all adults manually and leave the adolescents and babies in the original tub to grow out and then put the adults in the fresh tub and remove additional males that are not needed. The other way I do it is by using 4 different sizes of sifters that I made using buckets this allows sorting by size. The first bucket releases the frass, the second releases tiny babies, and the holes are large enough for adolescents and then the adults are always left at the end. I don't prefer sifting seems like manual management is better for the roaches and doesn't stress them as much. Each month I just go over the grow out tub and add any mature females to the colony and I always ensure I have the proper male/female ratio and that the males in the colony are healthy and not fighting. I keep the colony warm side around 82 degrees and cool side around 70 degrees and I don't mist I just offer a few pieces of fleshy moist veg like bell pepper for moisture and sometimes use water crystals although they get nasty pretty fast it does help for their sheds and not misting the tub keeps it cleaner, less mold, less stink. The roaches develop and live healthy in a dry environment in my experience.
