      If you're spending this sort of money on a reverb and you can't take ease of use into account (because it's a blind test) then they'd better all be "perfect", or what's the point? They're trying to distinguish between the last 1% of tone, and by that point you're just talking about how you feel on the day.

    I have one which I use with synths.
    It is also interesting that the BS has the least amount of chained effects thus making what it does have as almost pure.

      The Meris is definitely something special. A lot to explore but also a lot that I wouldn't use. Expense included, I'd probably pick the Catalinbread Soft Focus for usable ambience at easier price. Strymon just sounded too thin. really like UA, but it came down b'ween Neunaber MKII and the Ventris.....both rich tones but the Ventris had more reverb options, more wways to sculpt different textures with each reverb option. I really love Neunaber but the Ventris is a perfect 10 of 10.....and still king of Reverb in my opinion. GFI Specular Tempus was awesome but not user friendly for quick changing and dialing on the fly.

    And the answer is.... they're all great - and at this price point, so they should be! It is a slightly weird idea to make different pedals sound the same and then pick the 'best' one. • @DanielC__
      @DanielC__ Před rokem

      I don’t know if I just haven’t bonded well with my Helix but I can’t get this type of reverb from it. I’ve seen others come close, I’ve duplicated their settings but it still lacks that little bit from getting over the top. It’s been a frustrating 4 years with my Helix but part of it is my fault. I haven’t put in the time that’s required I guess. I still like it and use it often but it’s a complicated beast.

    • @TheDilligan
      @TheDilligan Před rokem

      @@DanielC__ I find that when I have that issue with reverb effects, it usually comes down to the room you are in, your playing, and just overthinking it and over-tweaking settings. Because It seems that no matter how good a reverb sounds in demos, when you are the one holding the guitar and it's in your room, it can be disappointing if you don't take your room's natural reverb into account.
      I can perfectly match the legacy 63 spring to my favorite setting on the Strymon Flint Spring with minimal tweaking. At first I through it was bad and then I put them side by side and tested them and realized I was just overthinking it on the HX... which is easy to do when it gives you so much.

  • @compucorder64
    @compucorder64 Před rokem +2

    I thought overall the Ventris is the winner. But, I'd be tempted to go with their Collider instead, for delays as well. Ventris had the lushest most complex sounding plate, and it's spring was very good. UAD had best spring, and plate was quite good - I notice these are good value second-hand now selling for around £250 and sound amazing for that almost 'mid-price' money. Illumine had a very good plate, but it's spring was the worst. I thought the Strymon honestly sounded a bit lo-fi, though it did have a pleasant warm character that merged with the guitar tone well - so it's still remains great choice after all these years. Illumine should think about improving their spring algorithm. Worth throwing a GFI Skylar into a mix, if testing Hall - great reverb at mid-price money, but don't think it does a Spring. Good plate though. Check out the Flamma FS02 too, love mine for £70. Had a Specular Tempus too and that had some lovely reverbs too - and so compact - with some reverb+delay and shimmer algos too.

    They're all a little rich for my blood. Yes, they all probably sound better than my Plethora X5, but for around the same money as one of these pedals, I have 15 effects pedals plus all of the associated Tone-prints, the ability to tweak (if you're one of those people), plus a looper and a tuner. Is it going to sound as good as these ones, probably not. But it's good enough for me. Having said that, they do sound glorious! I need to spend some time with my X5 to see what it's capable of. Needless to say, Danish Pete is just a wonderful guitar player. He has mastered his tone, dynamics and style. For what it's worth, (which isn't much) which one was my favorite... arghh. In Plate mode, I'd say the Ventris or the Strymon, Spring mode, UA, Hall Strymon. Overall, I'd say Strymon wins.

    The UAFX does it for me. The Strymon is good but, to me, sounds a little harsh. Still wouldn´t swap my Moore reverb though! 🙂

    Strymon cloudburst (not included) and the golden are the best reverb pedals these days..........the first has the best up to date sound,the golden has the best lexicon sound.......

    They all sound great, but the Illumine has a trump card. the Wet algos are stunning. and the bloom algo is in a similar ballpark to Strymons cloud. It isnt as tweekable as the Strymon but the relative lack of parameters to play with doesnt hold it back.. I had it and the BigSky at the same time and sold the BigSky.

    UA would be worth it for the spring alone, assuming you absolutely cannot have real spring reverb for some reason.

    I felt exactly the same. The blue sky and Big Sky have always lacked that "drip", so it lost spring reverb, but it dominated the other categories.

      @DanielC__ Před rokem +1

      Agreed. I have both and it’s the only area Strymon doesn’t win hands down but lack of drip can be handled

    Any guitar, amp, pedal combo is always up to you and choice is king but... for me it will always be Gibsons are made for fuzz pedals and dirty, dirty amps. Fenders for reverb, tremolo and clean amps.Beautiful sounds Mr Pete.

    I hate to be "that guy" especially because I'm not that nerdy, and I don't care that much, but if you're stacking digital pedals without true bypass (which presumably, some of those are) you're probably stacking some buffers and/or redundant AD/DA conversions. I have no idea how big of a difference this makes (if any, at least in a practical sense) but it might make "some".
    I know that stereo loopers are a bit less common than mono ones, but since you used a loop switcher for the overdrive shoot-outs, digital pedals could probably benefit even more from using one. You know, just as a due diligence/insurance policy/defence against "nerds who care".
    EDIT: After watching the summary, this becomes even more relevant. Now, just to be absolutely clear, I highly, highly doubt that this mattered, but there's like a miniscule chance that Strymon got a leg up in the shot-out, simply because it wasn't affected by the buffers/ADDA conversion of the other three pedals (it was first in the chain).

  • @blindjusticeandcommonsense2786

    Hmm. This is a bit peculiar. It's like an advert for what Pete noodling through a stereo reverb sounds like and not much else. Not really useful, but it sounds nice and all.
    May as well buy the cheapest Behringer reverb pedal after sitting through this. Because what YOU sound like in whatever musical context YOU are playing in is unlikely to be the same as Pete doing demo/sales videos for Andertons on CZcams.
    Or go to a shop and try some pedals yourself. Which won't sound at all like Pete does in this video either. But it might save you hurting your wallet.

    The blue sky doesn’t sound bad AT ALL, but even the v2 doesn’t hold up in quality to the rest of these pedals.
