Hey guys and welcome to Episode 6 of my No Experience Van Conversion Series. It finally seems like the van is taking shape. In this video I show you how I installed 2 side sliding windows and the process behind it. They've really made a big difference to the overall look of the van and I'm very happy how it turned out.

I have to admit that sadly the windows did leak a few days after but I’ve put some clear sealant around the edges of the window which seems to have stopped the rain coming! Going to be heading out very soon for a basic stealth camp in the van so will be good to be back on the road! Make sure your following me on Instagram @willswhereabouts as I post and share more updates of the van build! Thanks for your support on the videos 🤟🏼
Yeah installed incorrectly, so not surprised. Loving the videos, keep it going.
@@ewanjacksonmusic how should it have been done so I know for next time! 😀
@@WillsWhereabouts its how we learn, i did my 6 windows and they all leaked haha!
Id have left out the rubber U trim, the glass would sit closer to metal. Trim from inside after.
I think the join of the window rubber should be on the bottom side not one of the sides. The rain probably run down the side & got in via the join :(
If at the bottom corner say it can just run down & not get in via the join #im no fitter just had a little experience
I hope the fix worked. Mind you on the whole you're doing v well :) :)
Each fit out is a learning curve :) like anything the more you do it, the better you get.
What I love about Will's series is it's aimed at the complete beginner like me and he makes the same mistakes as I'm sure I would, and he has a no nonsense down to earth approach that makes his videos very accessible and easy to watch.
Tinted windows will come in handy for your frequent visits to dogging spots.
Hi Will, you are doing a great job but may I make a few suggestions?
I have been fitting glass to vehicles for 15 years now and a good part of the time converting panel vans for van conversions.
1. when cutting the hole for the window there is no need for any measuring, that inner metal panel that came unbonded is all you need as a guide.
take a spring-loaded center punch and from inside the van place it on the edge of that second panel and punch around the radius of each corner about a cm apart, this will leave small raised bumps on the outside, you can then take a sharpie and join the bumps this will give you your corners, then take a straight edge and draw a line joining each corner radius top, bottom and sides. then you can cut the panel out, file the edges prime the bare metal, and then place the edging trim over the edge.
The amount of metal you have left around the glass on the inside is going to cause problems with condensation build-up between the metal and the glass.
2. When priming the body and glass you need a single line of primer about 1.5 cm from the edge, use your finger to rest on the edge of the glass as a guide and the swage line of the van.
3. when bonding the glass snip that little piece of plastic and the end of the nozzle off. The gun needs to be at 90 degrees to the glass and the bond should only come out of the triangle part of the nozzle, leaving you a nice triangular bead.
4. there is meant to be a gap between the body and the glass, however some of the cheaper none OE glass does tend not to sit correctly at the corners.
I am worried that these will leak, but fingers crossed you got lucky. Once again great job, I will be following you and soon I will be converting a van for myself.
Hey, thanks for the tips and advice especially from someone that knows what they’re talking about, I’ll defiantly try to remember all of this for next time! Sadly they did leak hah but I’ve put some clear sealant around the edges to stop the water coming in
You two are like the chuckle brothers 😂😂 I’m totally LOVING this series!! Brilliant job so far! Can’t wait to see what you do next!!
Haha thanks very much Abi!
White van with black and darkened windows looks quite nice.
Kudos for having a go ...... but for the extra it would have cost to get it fitted professionally it's a no-brainer.

Just watched you video on the floor. It's frustrating and scary but just wait until you can get out in it mate. Designed by you, made by you - all your own work. Keep it up, we're all rooting for you.
simple when you know how. Looks fantastic too. I did worry about you not having gloves but you coped ok :)
Good work Will, looking good 👍🏻
Every week I wait for this specific channel for Van build video bro I am really connected to this channel .
Bro Love from India 🇮🇳
Eagerly waiting for next video.
Love from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳
loved it. I might put a window in my van now
Looking great will as for the stiff slider grate a bit of candle wax in the runner should help or just rub a candle along it if you can get one in 🙌🚐🙌
Hi Will, great job installing the new windows, always recheck and check when doing things like this.the progress is going well 👍.
For sure measured many times to be sure
Looking forward to the video's with this van build
Awesome project! Nice to see the process 👍
Cheers mate
Enjoying this build
Well done, looks great.
The bottom drainage channels are proud of the glass so the thickness of the sealant will be at least as deep as those channels. Dont try and squeeze the adhesive out, it just needs to make contact all around ... thats enough.
Slowly it start to look awesome ❤️
Enjoying the build Will, keep em coming!
Thanks very much
Don’t forget if your doing a roof fan make sure you remove all the metal filings otherwise they will rust your roof
I've got to be honest Will; The project with your camper van is quite _addictive! . . ._ Seems to me you're doing just fine, and something tells me this may yet turn out to be a bona fide dream project coming through! . . . 👌
Looks so good with the Windows. I could not do this so respect to you. I did wonder about testing for leaks but sounds like a simple fix. Really excited watching your progress. Keep the positivity going, is amazing the progress you’re making
Thanks Matt, yep it sadly did leak but have now put some sealant around the edges which has done the trick
Well done Will, the vans really starting to look great!
The fact you’ve never done anything like this before…👍
Glad you finally have the safety glasses.
jPc
Thanks Jonathan
I think the theme tune from Laurel and Hardy would accompany this series well... But fair play you're having a go!I'm sure all will come good!
Loving your van build Will, your doing such a great job, just a regular guy, doing what many of us would be utterly terrified to do. I have been watching Margot and Loddi’s van build ( is that what their called, I’m sh*t with names!! Absolutely fantastic, like watching Tony Stark doing a self build!!! I can absolutely relate to your build though, including the odd swear word!!! Riveting viewing and also an excellent presenter , good job mate!!!
Following your journey keep up the great work COYB
Use a little vasolin in the groove of the rubber that should help with stiffness 👍🏼
Suckers on the inside of the two windows with bungee hooks to keep them both tight until the sealant goes off.
Good going Will.... an important lesson learned.... safety first.... I have had plenty of drill shavings in the eyes.... not nice... this was before safety specs were about.
I recommend you check out .... Black rock outfitters.... a brummie guy... he has some good tips.
Don't forget to clean out all the saw shavings from inside the van, they will rust quickly.
its looking good mate
On my old van on sliding door when I had windows fitted they put to bits of wood with two ratchet straps to hold it in place tight
I appreciate the work you are putting into your van. It seems like it would be much easier to start with a passenger van or not to cut windows (maybe only vent ports) in a cargo van but to instead learn to drive with flat and convex mirrors. I have camped a lot in vans and when I was camping, I'd always have the doors open anyway, except for when sleeping.
Finally video was coming
Coming along great man. Thanks for sharing the process. Hope ur eyes are ok with all that metal, tip don’t rub just rinse out your eyes cuz rubbing can make it worse. Enjoying the progress keep up the good work.
Cheers Brett, thankfully the eye was ok but some bigger goggles would be better
Looking fantastic Will lad !!!!
🤛🏼🤛🏼
Really enjoying these videos
Glad to hear it
If it still leaks maybe dry a rain guard glued above them if they make any that long
At least you had the balls to do it yourself. I would have shit out and paid for someone to do it for me. Loving the van build will 👍🏻
LOOKING GOOD WILL KEEP THEM COMING
Thanks Ans
Use silicon spray on your window. Its used on curtain tracks to ensure the gliders run smoothly.
you good job👍
Looking lush!
Thanks it’s looking better
Great to see you progress on your van project Will. Some Vinyl & rubber lubricant should help the sliding window.
You’ve done a nice job there. Well done. Rog. ✌️😎💙
Thanks Roger I’ll try it out so thanks for the advice
You are one AMAZING man!!!
❤️❤️
You’re doing a good job…as always measure twice, cut once 👍x
You almost seemed competent doing those windows, nice job fella
This van and will is going to the fooking moon 😂
Love your videos brother
Well done 👍
I learned from this video, and from some of the comments. Too bad the knowledgeable ones are after the fact. If you can get these Re-done, please do a video on it.
Job well done 👏🏽
🤟🏼🤟🏼
Vans Lookin good👍👍👍👍
Great video. Maybe try silicon spray on the tight window.
Cheers I’ll give it a try
Bro i like your videos before watch it. You are that much favorite 😊😁. Love from nepal 🥰🥰
Appreciate it
Always super work sir.
👌🏼👌🏼
You put them windows in perfectly and yes there is ment to be a gap but aslong as u put the beading in correctly you wont have any issue with rain
Not perfectly but good enough haha
For the rear glass windows you could always do two monitors and a live cam to see what is going on around the truck while your in your bed,
Sounds cool but very impractical if you have finite amount of power in batteries.
Keep at it, doing a great job. Easy to talk about sh*t, different to get stuck in and do it. Personal question, you've mentioned mental health in the past, I've had two big fuck off breakdowns over the last 10 yrs, each time I was unable to sleep in the house, just wanted to escape first time I had a motorhome to kip in, second time a van, is this connected to what started you off car camping? no need to answer if it's too personal.
Thanks mate.
Looking good 👍
Well done
Van looks good.
Will. Well done 👍😀
