    Hey guys and welcome to Episode 6 of my No Experience Van Conversion Series. It finally seems like the van is taking shape. In this video I show you how I installed 2 side sliding windows and the process behind it. They've really made a big difference to the overall look of the van and I'm very happy how it turned out.

    I have to admit that sadly the windows did leak a few days after but I’ve put some clear sealant around the edges of the window which seems to have stopped the rain coming! Going to be heading out very soon for a basic stealth camp in the van so will be good to be back on the road! Make sure your following me on Instagram @willswhereabouts as I post and share more updates of the van build! Thanks for your support on the videos 🤟🏼

      Id have left out the rubber U trim, the glass would sit closer to metal. Trim from inside after.

    • @adidasmanuk
      @adidasmanuk Před 3 lety +4

      I think the join of the window rubber should be on the bottom side not one of the sides. The rain probably run down the side & got in via the join :(
      If at the bottom corner say it can just run down & not get in via the join #im no fitter just had a little experience
      I hope the fix worked. Mind you on the whole you're doing v well :) :)
      Each fit out is a learning curve :) like anything the more you do it, the better you get.

    What I love about Will's series is it's aimed at the complete beginner like me and he makes the same mistakes as I'm sure I would, and he has a no nonsense down to earth approach that makes his videos very accessible and easy to watch.

    Tinted windows will come in handy for your frequent visits to dogging spots.

  • @Argentumfoxx
    @Argentumfoxx Před 3 lety +5

    Hi Will, you are doing a great job but may I make a few suggestions?
    I have been fitting glass to vehicles for 15 years now and a good part of the time converting panel vans for van conversions.
    1. when cutting the hole for the window there is no need for any measuring, that inner metal panel that came unbonded is all you need as a guide.
    take a spring-loaded center punch and from inside the van place it on the edge of that second panel and punch around the radius of each corner about a cm apart, this will leave small raised bumps on the outside, you can then take a sharpie and join the bumps this will give you your corners, then take a straight edge and draw a line joining each corner radius top, bottom and sides. then you can cut the panel out, file the edges prime the bare metal, and then place the edging trim over the edge.
    The amount of metal you have left around the glass on the inside is going to cause problems with condensation build-up between the metal and the glass.
    2. When priming the body and glass you need a single line of primer about 1.5 cm from the edge, use your finger to rest on the edge of the glass as a guide and the swage line of the van.
    3. when bonding the glass snip that little piece of plastic and the end of the nozzle off. The gun needs to be at 90 degrees to the glass and the bond should only come out of the triangle part of the nozzle, leaving you a nice triangular bead.
    4. there is meant to be a gap between the body and the glass, however some of the cheaper none OE glass does tend not to sit correctly at the corners.
    I am worried that these will leak, but fingers crossed you got lucky. Once again great job, I will be following you and soon I will be converting a van for myself.

    I appreciate the work you are putting into your van. It seems like it would be much easier to start with a passenger van or not to cut windows (maybe only vent ports) in a cargo van but to instead learn to drive with flat and convex mirrors. I have camped a lot in vans and when I was camping, I'd always have the doors open anyway, except for when sleeping.

Personal question, you've mentioned mental health in the past, I've had two big fuck off breakdowns over the last 10 yrs, each time I was unable to sleep in the house, just wanted to escape first time I had a motorhome to kip in, second time a van, is this connected to what started you off car camping? no need to answer if it's too personal.
