Bought one. Traded my R in for it. Couldn´t be more happy. GTI CS is much lighter on its feet, and more engaging than the R. Much rather have this than the slight extra kick out of corners in the R. Cheers
Another happy owner. Absolutely adore my little GTI. Although, I have added 90 HP.
3:26 that was smooth :)
Like butter
very true, wonderful transition
That transition from old gen to new gen was 😍❤❤❤❤🍪
This made me very emotional because the GTI is what made me a car guy. The GTI has shaped who I am and the things that I do. I still have my first GTI and I am never letting her go because there is a type of soul these cars have, you love them and they love you back, even when you aren't driving them. If you haven't driven any GTI, please do yourself a favor and hop in one.
Gotta love the GTI and those side burns 🔥
DriveBMC HAHA TRUE
DriveBMC 😂😂
I drive a mk2 GTI and it still gives me a massive smile every time I drive it
+1.. Driving down memory lane ... MY83 GTI silver metallic over blue red striped bucket seats.. The car stereo thief's in mid-town NYC hit the GTI more times than can be remembered. Ski rack on top, GTI headed north,,, Killington, Vermont here we come... Gotta luv the GTI ... 1.8l 115hp, Close ratio 5sp, 7"x14" alloys with P7's ...
inside rear wheel up in the air as what looks like a 3-wheel circus act ....
3:26 Bravo mr editor, bravo.
videos with Henry are so zen like, calm and relaxing but very enjoyable.
Mujtaba Ibrahim agreed I like his style too
Whoa! Turning the old GTI into the new one on that bend threw me for a loop! Tricksters.
Agreed. The steering wheel is one of the best out there
so is the steering rack
"There is nothing to tell me it's not 1976" including you Henry!
this man is in the wrong generation. in a very good way. I love his style.
Wafu I was expecting his 1976 style turtleneck and horn rims to change along with the car. Nice video edit but I still say ooof, missed that opportunity.
Yeah, I kind of regretted that too.
"That 70´s show!" lol ;)
Love the one you're with. The Mk 1's I roll an '85 Golf Diesel in the summertime (garaged for winter). It's minty awesome with a new interior, suspension and top end, and another 200k miles to reliably take me anywhere I choose to go. Oh, and 55 MPG if you nurse it over the mountains and stick to 55 MPH. You can get there, in just 20 seconds haha, 21.6 to 60 mph.
As you can see in the video, it's just fun. Fun to have been able to update the fuel lines and some bits myself, fun to see how many miles per gallon you get on a trip, fun to pack in 2 mountain bikes and 2 road bikes and a cooler, or some snowboards. It's my 53 HP RV, with Euro handling (no back seat/cover).
Brilliant. The channel, videos, commentary, and creativity... Simply Brilliant!!!
Wonderful editing and shooting work by Sam Riley!
Fantastic automobile. Well done Volkswagen.
As a mk1 Golf and mk6 Golf R owner I have to say, I couldn't not be any more pleased with tthis video. Really wishing we got the clubsport in the states. Cheers on another great vid
My first car was a 1983 gti, I only understeered it into a curbs and ditches. Got pretty good at replacing those front control arms too.
One of the best all around cars that anyone of average means or better can afford to buy and drive every day
Let's just hope they dont make a "Drivetribe ondemand" thing out of it
Biro Kozzma for real...
Plausible
yes please not
God forbid you pay for things! Except things relating to your job, obviously.
Malc180s they get paid by having enough people click on their videos.
Congrats on almost 100k! Fastest growing channel ever! Deserve it fully
Have a MK6 GTI and just love it :)
dude that smooth ass edit at 3:26
oh man, the memories of my '85 gti...my first car. Loving my mk6 now but miss my first one still.
There's nothing inside the cabin to tell us it's not 1976 either :P, Henry looks like he's stuck back in time with that turtle/glasses combo. The editor was especially on his game with this video.
I'd really like to see James May do a guest video or two, I feel like he really has a lot more to give than The Grand Tour allows.
The dashboard, instrumentation, steering wheel and seats (i.e. the whole interior) on this 1983 Campaign is nothing like that if a 1976 GTI as it was revised from 1980. The 1976 model has tartan seats, twin tunnelled dials and a gorgeous 3 spoke alloy steering wheel.
Your films are shot beautifully. Vet cinematic.
I love GTI
Best car content online or TV.
Gosh I love these videos... Well done guys.
3:26 hats off to the production, direction and editing. IDK if got a nerdgasm and a strong knot in my throat.
Great video paying homage to the Mk1. Thanks for sharing. Had mine since 1988 and still great fun to drive and own. Never heard late Mk1s ever called a Mk 1.5, although the facelifted Mk3 Cabriolet was referred to the Mk 3.5 as it was a Mk3 shell with Mk4 headlamps grafted on. Latest Golfs have grown so much that the Up GTI and Polo GTI probably more closely align to the original.
GTI MK1 & MK2 for life 😍
Great video, love the cinematography
That transition was awesome
Still loving these videos!
The new golf wheel is very similar to the 991 gt3 rs wheel.
i love this car !!
Not really interested in the car, but that road. Fucking hell!
Love the GTI. Live to ride!
legend. love GTi.
you guys should have more subscribers yours videos are really good
And a wonderful video! Keep up the awesome work sir! :)
The 3:28 transition is superb !
Earned my subscription! Awesome vid all around!
that interior is so aesthetic
I really enjoyed that thanks
40 years later humanity will be no more.
love the channel
Henry and Sam = quality videos
Tycho
Note: Those are not the MK1 GTi Pirelli rims 5:30 / 6:56 but rather MK2 GTi. Notice the P cutout is larger than the original and the space between the Ps is greater.
Another brilliant video!
Visual bliss. Great video as always
God I love the VW Golf GTI by far one of my favorite cars ever!!
this was a sick edit
Still have my golf gti clubsport 2017 whit akrapovic
love this channel!
So we have the Clubsport, Clubsport S, Clubsport Edition 40. Whats next? Clubsport Supersport?
Zatharos clubsport r maybe?
Zatharos the standard clubsport and the edition 40 are the same car, it's name is just shortened sometmes
SuperClub SportSport R Edition S.
Clubsport Highline, Clubsport GTi, Clubsport R, Clubsport GTE
As long as there is no Clubsport TDI it'll be ok!
That road
I've got the latest Polo GTi and it looks more like the original Golf than the Golf does.
I wish they would bring the club sport to north America
the first golf GTI had smaller rear lights. the car in the film is after 1980 ^^
Harry Catchpole no longer works for EVO?
I’d love your thoughts on the new up gti on the same road.
Great videos but I find the commentary on them too quiet or too quickly spoken. Apart from that, keep doing what you're doing!
What road is this?
He mentions that it's a B road, in the moorlands of north Wales - would love to know the actual road, surely someone recognises it?
Will A He said it's North Wales.... but believe me, I drive better in South to Mid Wales!
Tom Cook it does love amazing to drive 😍 I’ve been north Wales 🏴 some great road around
Be cause the magazine and the press say. That is the reason my friend. from then and now
I love those roads. Thank God I am not living near there, or I probably would go for "just a few miles for fun after work" every day and double my fuel bill >.
freibier Same, where the fuck do people find roads like these. All I can find on my roads are crackheads, potholes, and infinite amounts of traffic
What's the name of the road mate? Would love to star it for my next visit to Wales.
The balance! I finally found the word that best describes my affinity for my B5 Passat. By the way, he says 260 bhp, the standard GTI has 210 bhp. Is that extra hp on the Clubsport Edition?
djolecar88 yes, the clubsport gets a power bump to 260hp and the clubsport s has a little more then 300hp.
With what is the front plate fixed? Thanks in advance for answering
So that's it, huh....we're some kind of Clubsport for the GTI??
#RehashingShitMemeSince2187
Kronos Yes & i own one. With DSG & DCC which's ideal for tuning the Nutballs of it when warranty goes out after 2 years! ;)
Funny thing how everyone remembers not the actual first thing of anything, but the first thing made right.
Just as an idea:
Comparison between Renault Megane Trophy R, Golf Clubsport S and Seat Leon Cupra 300 on the same rubber.
Henry, how does it compare to the Megane RS 275?
One of Clarkson's fav car
6:35, rear outer wheel in the air...
Update please ?
your jumper goes with the car......well it's as old as the car looks anyway
I had no idea Louis Theroux reviews cars!
I removed the silencer on mine :-)
Why did you leave drive tribe
You guys can't keep this pace up can you? Videos every 36 hours it seems. Not that I'm complaining..
Does anyone who has driven this road know if it is a one way or would there be opposing traffic?
Was just thinkig that :)
This channel is fucking quality but RIP evo lol
this is not the first mk1 gti? long taillights..
I like all the golf GTI's because they are what they are, but. Christ that suspension looked as hard as concrete compared to the MK1 which looked sooooo much more composed unless it's just me?
le poète
Being a purist I think a Series 1 Mk1 GTI should have been used.
they should of always kept the front round lights. like nissan did with the rear skyline lights.
Why is the sound so bad in these videos? Worse than Evo's
aggloi
All that grass is dead because he drove a VW.
12th 给力
first lol i finally got to say it once
WTF? What is with the pathetic name calling. It was a nice tidy video. Someone needs a relationship. Yikes!
Turned it off at 3:10 bc jazz
If a "car journalist" still complains about buttons on a steering wheel he has immediately lost his credibility. smh
SPEAK UP.
I think that the Golf is so ugly.
