- Today Robert Croser has joined me to show me around the former market town of Kirkoswald in Cumbria.
The village, civil parish and former market town of Kirkoswald lies in the Lower Eden Valley of Cumbria, formerly Cumberland, about 9 miles from Penrith.
The village's name means Church of St Oswald and the parish church is dedicated to Saint Oswald, King of Northumbria. The body of Oswald is believed to have been taken through the village. The church lies on the southern edge of the village overlooking the River Eden close to the bridge which connects Kirkoswald to Lazonby.

It is a fabulous place indeed.
So interesting. Thanks R&R
Thanks Linda - so different from Sussex!
Kirkoswald is another pretty little village - Market Town. I just love the way the streets meander thru these old historic towns.
Its a beauty all right! :)
Well done you two, that village is loverly. I do like the red sandstone, very different to the south east.
Great video 👍
Oh yes, the sandstone is great - you get a lot in Shropshire too.
I live here it's amazing the people and the surroundings
A beautiful place to live.
More of these lovely villages Richard.
I shall do more villages - have no fear!
beautiful place💚
Thanks Todd.
Nice village that very pretty but rugged too , I imagine the winters are harsh 🤭
I think they get a lot of snow up there.
Beautiful village, maybe the key holder will lend you the key to the tower so we can see the view from up there? 😊👍
Yes it would have been great to have a look in the tower.
I live in a house built in 1977 and it's the oldest house for miles and miles.....I find these videos fascinating----these houses are hundreds of years old built on streets that were laid out hundreds of years ago.
Yes indeed - they are very old houses. Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment!
The sandstone is triassic sandstone, that is found from the Midlands through to Cheshire and again in the vale of Eden to the East of the Lake District
Ah that must be the same as the red sandstone in Shropshire that I have seen a lot of?
The Hole in the Wall gang....
Yes indeed
Thank god the U.K. respects their history!
Ha! We do now, a bit, but in the 1960s, there was so much damage to history! Fortunately, we do have a lot to protect.
Take away those cars and you have a perfect time capsule!! The Reavers must have been the equal of,or similar to the Hawkhurst gang in the south??
I reckon they were - I guess everywhere had gangs like them.
