I am now even more impressed that Dr. Sproul knows about the tonic, subdominant, and dominant chords :)

Some of my most creative thinking has taken place in very formal settings. You don't have to be casual to be creative!!

Most Evangelicals are so steeped into singing man made hymns because they don't know any better and have "always done it that way". To suggest the idea of singing Psalms is to present an almost foreign concept to their minds. Dr. Ferguson has it exactly right. A proper hermeneutic demands that the proper understanding of Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5 are that they are three different types of Psalms as delineated in the Septuagent. How would the original readers/hearers have understood the texts? What was Paul writing about? The early church used the worship of the Synagogue which had no Instruments and that sang exclusively Psalms.
This is as difficult for people to accept as the fact that Musical Instruments have no place in the public worship of God.
The Psalms in the Scottish Psalter can be sung easily using well known tunes from the hymns that are well liked.
It is very interesting that the Denomination (ARP) that First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina belongs to was commited to exclusive Psalm singing with no Musical Instruments until 1946. Why the change? To conform to the world. They apparently couldn't compete with the other churches that had Instruments and sang hymns.

@Joseph Exactly! I was actually surprised they didn't. Answer by saying good music is that which God prescribed in scripture. Greetings, Grace and peace from All Saints Reformed church in Brea, RPCNA!

Pardon my ignorance but, other than the tradition that the early church did not use music instruments, on which scriptures would one base the assertion that musical instruments have no no place in the public worship of God?

Because Ligonier is toothless and cowardly generally speaking, and he moved on to really punch hard against the culture. For further evidence of that, watch the content of Ligonier, versus Grace Agenda.

@Susanna Blanchard An alternate theory to the one you've received may be due to the fact that in 2007 Doug Wilson co-authored, "A Joint Federal Vision Profession." The pdf is still available online. In that same year, the PCA General Assembly passed an Ad-interim committee report against Federal Vision by a 90% majority vote. You can find the minutes of that assembly online for your own research and verification. RC Sproul was the founder of Ligonier and a member of the PCA. It's only an educated guess but I think Wilson was not invited back because of his views.

A man, a man! I agree totally. We need to go back to the great Anglican hymns of the church and throw out these guitar playing in misfits.
