You are only partially correct. The purpose of the vault is to keep a coffin from rising out of the ground during floods. It's also a major money maker for funeral homes. They promote it as a way to preserve loved ones.
My father worked at Cemeteries most of his life and told me stories as a kid. The one that always scared me the most is of how when the families of the diseased wanted to disinter their loved ones to move for what ever reason, the seals on the burial vaults would not seal properly causing the casket to float inside the vault and the casket be under water. My father was not kidding and said sometimes the vault was buried a few years and seen them flooded. He also seen them in the ground for decades and was dry. That is why I will be cremated and not bobbing around in a vault with insects.
My mom floated up & out of the ground... even the lid on the vault washed away!!! They contacted us and she had a paper in the casket that said her plot mark 😔
You pay extra money for a gasket but there’s no way to tell if it’s gonna seal . Dug up a guy who was buried for three years because his family wanted to put him in the newly built mausoleum at another cemetery . The vault company pulled the top off and the insides was FULL OF WATER ! The funeral director had to take him with the water draining way !
In some cemeteries, the water table is higher than the vault, and it is critical to have a non-water-tight vault and casket so that the casket can be lowered to the bottom. Additionally, concrete floats. The cemetery I paid 23 years ago for 2 plots has that type of problem. I just know that my remains will be in water at certain times of the year.
I worked in a cemetary for 2 years. We buried quite a few people in my time there.I exhumed one grave and opening the vault was not easy. She had been in the grave 12 years then her sister had her moved to the mausoleum. The sister died 3 days later and we buried her in the double vault with her sister.
@ Allie Johnson I don't mean to be morbid, but what condition was the casket in when the vault was opened? Did you all open the casket too? If so, what condition was the body in? The cemented vault is necessary to keep the casket in the ground in case of a severe flooding. In other words to keep the casket from floating up out the ground.
It's actually just a landscaping issue. When the casket breaks down after being placed in the ground, you end up with a low spot I er the grave. Cemeteries don't want that. But a cement vault prevents that from happening and helps maintain a flat, groomed cemetery. If flooding is severe enough, caults will still come out of the ground.
Vaults are required in most cemeteries. If not then heavy equipment as in tractors or trucks will cave in the casket and create low spots also. But they are meant to be sealed and meant to prevent casket cave ins.
My dad's bottom part of his vault was already in the ground and was covered from debris until his coffin was placed in and then the top was brought in and lowered.

You see how he is pealing the paper away from the underside of the lid? THAT is so that NOW the vault will seal. There is a sealant under where the lid and vault meet. The weight of the lid will seal out any outside element, even water if it is a good vault which actually USE a sealant with their vails. If you don't see THIS! Your vault isn't sealed.
Not true the vault company I used to work for took the paper off before it left the shop we had little metal spacers that went in the corner to hold the lid up from sealing
What a colossal waste of money. I live in the country and have approval for having a green funeral. Essentially, it involves having a plot of ground (1/4 acre) surveyed out, registered with with county as a cemetery. At the time of death, wherever it occures, I am wrapped in a cotton shroud and buried in a five foot hole and buried. No embalming, no casket. Has to be done within 72 hrs. Can be extended if properly refrigerated and longer if frozen.

For people who don't understand the need for vaults consider this: Nearly all graves are dug with a backhoe now. That means a heavy tractor will come in, spread out stabilizers then dig the hole. If you just put the casket in the ground then set the stabilizer on top of it years later, it might cave in. There is also the issue of mowing equipment needing to be able to drive around.
They also use the backhoe to compact the soil that they backfill, starting when there may only be about 18" of cover and repeating maybe each additional 18". Otherwise the soil will settle over time and there would be little depressions at each plot.

I don't get the concept of embalming a dead person and seal the coffin in a led casket and a concrete vault. Isn't barrials meant to decompose the body?
Most states require the body to be embalmed if there will be a viewing since an unpreserved body at room temperature is a health hazard and a carrier of disease.
Kirstine Utzon if u don't embalmed YOU WILL STINK and the purpose of all the other stuff is so the little bugs won't at at ur body and make u a skeleton so fast...
smithersonjones we don't embalm in the UK often, funerals are usually within two weeks of death, the body is just refrigerated. We don't do open casket though as a rule. Why are bugs considered an issue? Surely that's the point of burial, so remains quickly return to the earth?
GAWD!! What a pain in the ass!! It looks like this process hasn't changed for 100 years. You'd think someone would invent a device that runs on electricity or at the very least a PTO connection to that tractor sitting there.
They have a device that does that. It cost a lot. And unless someone is going to pay over 4 thousand dollars for a casket lowering device that’s what they have to do.
Who the hell are the disrespectful people laughing in the background while this man is doing a very respectful job of laying someone their final resting place!?🙄😡

During my uncles burial there were people leaving the graveyard doing burnouts that's so disrespectful to do that in a cemetery but when someone is being buried and you do that it's so messed up
I have seen that done at the request of the family the person being buried was a long time member of our car club, and a commercial builder of some custom cars(He did the body on my truck),and in the procession were quite a few customs and Hotrods, the "burn outs" were done carefully-not insane displays, and were requested by the family,it was a way of offering a fond farewell to a friend, the funeral home people rather liked it as well,it was nor disrespect, but quite the opposite.
+smithersonjones any funeral I've been too we've always stayed till after the burial, it's a southern thing. But I always stayed to make sure the burial was done right and properly.
We had a full service and viewing for our daughter but then we had her cremated. Its what she wanted. We miss you Beth-elle. She is whole now with a new body in the very presence of Jesus. No more pain. No more suffering.
It was sad that the cemetery workers showed more respect than the attendees.

When you totally seal a casket, gas builds up and a body can explode! Better not to seal it..
@@bobettebryan6589 Vaults can be purchased in all sorts of material. Elvis, His Mom & JFK were all buried in SOLID COPPER VAULTS. In 1950's it was $13k, 1977 $35k and now they run $155k.
I'm seriously considering a green burial. Let my body grow a tree. Just not one that's cut down and used to make toilet paper.
Same
That is exactly what I am doing. I think i am going to be an oak tree.
@ike fun not really.
Once your body is cremated it loses all its nutrients therefore a person can not be used to grow anything. It's a myth. Research.
Neil Sellards nice well just call you Charmin.double ply.
When I die don't waste the insurance 💰 on all this!! Come to the morgue and see my body..... On the real though....... you really don't have to do that.... Cause my spirit ..the real essence of me will be long gone!!! Just acknowledge that I'm gone and don't cry for me... Cause where I'll be I'm gonna be crying for U!!!!!
The ladies always enjoy a good funeral - it's a day out for them.😀
God bless rest in peace
God bless and keep those who care for our loved ones, who have fallen asleep. ❤
Very interesting. Have a nice day now.
The money that’s involved in dying is just ridiculous really u be paying all this money for a casket just to return to the earth 🌏
It is one of the biggest rackets in this country.
Yup. Just a bunch of goo and rotten wood in the bottom of that concrete box, which will also disintegrate over time. What a waste of money. Better to go with at least cremation or natural burial. Funeral homes prey on peoples emotions at the time of a death of a loved one and rip the family off for a lot of money for nothing.
@@donnebes9421 ur absolutely right **** people worried about getting buried under ground when ur gone ur mind only will be thinking of getting right with Jesus to make it into heaven at least for some who know about what really happens after death *** no body goes to heaven for being a nice person and many die thinking that ** so sad being lied to the Bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge 🔥💀👿
Yes they want to make money off of our existence to the bitter end.
Some mourners weren't too sad. There was quite a bit of laughing...
@newfielad47 be nice.... The people n the background are visiting their mothers grave...I video the entire funeral even the sealing and covering of the casket for the family ... Normally in Memphis no one is around when this part is being done...just because their hats are backwards doesn't equate to being idiots as they explained to me they all had their own part that they do, it was hot out there and there were a lot of funerals that day... So be nice until u find out why something is being done...
yes, if people notice, in their work, they get close to vault, and they need to have their hat on backwards, otherwise it would get in the way
***** racist
Death Trooper2411 To each their own. Not everyone wants to be as perfect as you think you are...

Correct grammar would be " They are" Not "Their".....

Maybe you need glasses Mr Magoo.
That looks expensive. Plus very hard to escape from.
Interesting yet eerie
I need one of those burial hoist lift kits! Heavy duty
About right 4people there and one does all the work

So Wats the point of the other 3.
Honestly! One man going round and round seeing to it, while two more relax and just watch!, what are they like!

Im a former gravedigger. The way that worker threw that equipment like that was a disgrace.
I was thinking the same thing.
Did the dead file a complaint?
He is black and is probably on minimum wage for a 10 year old. He probably still gets whipped by his boss and gets no breaks...
1978mackdaddy I thought the same thing.
LOOKED MORE LIKE THE MAN ACCIDENTLY DROPPED THE BAR......at the end...after bumping it into something...
My dad's bottom part of his vault was already in the ground and was covered from debris until his coffin was placed in and then the top was brought in and lowered.
to whoever this persons family is, I'm sorry for your loss, I recently lost my mom jan 21st 2016 from ALS, she was cremated as it was her request, watching this made me think of my own mom's funeral, I just hope your family didn't do what mine did after mom passed away, my ENTIRE extended family quit talking to me, leaving me all alone literally....I don't find this horrible at all, I would've taped it to had my mom requested to be buried...again I'm sorry for your loss
IAMdevilwomen I am so sorry about your loss and your awful family issues. my brother died 2 months ago and I'm going through the same thing. I know exactly what you're feeling or felt because that's what's happening. makes me miss my brother even more
You are not responsible for their behavior only how you react to it. Stay positive rely on your friends and enjoy your life don't let your family bring you down
So sorry for your loss 🙏🏽🌹 you shouldn't feel bad for doing just what your mom requested for what she herself wanted you to do for her 👀 family will drag you through the mud 24/7 if you let them. I had to learn that for self. I've walked away from so many family members that I should have done LONG AGO! ❤ (Angela from Birmingham Alabama 😊)
Nice video................
Man started throwing stuff around at the end.
He dropped it
It's a job.
Ever since my mother died, I've been curious about this
everything is so metal mechanical.
Wendell W. Alderman wow that's good to know

Who gives a shit? They’re dead and with any luck it will never see daylight again.
Not true the vault company I used to work for took the paper off before it left the shop we had little metal spacers that went in the corner to hold the lid up from sealing
well,... the drivers are supposed to remove the metal spacers before lowering the lid.
Seems like they having a good time in the background....
In England we don’t normally use Vaults .
@sergio Molina be nice read the comments ppl were visiting their mothers grave and I was just recording a minister final spot be nice
Peter Palmer Back in the day before embalming people could be buried alive ! I would need a shot to kill me first JUST IN CASE. ...
Peter Palmer yikes
many people were buried alive i know of situation as a first responder where the person was declared dead then sit up ask what the hell is going on called catatonic state many first responders have grey hair for a reason i earned mine
Lol !!! At first glance I thought it said "STEALIN the casket"!!!!
chelsea landfried 😂 😂 😂
looks like tough work
Dayum! That big dude doing all the work was rather clumsy! Banging other headstones, throwing steel, metal etc. onto the truck! Glad I'm going to a cemetery where I know all employees show utmost respect at all times for everybody & everything!
It's a hard job he's just trying to get it done
+MrJohnboy Burns Mr. Johnboy Burns, I agree. This is not an easy job. I personally Thank God for me the workers at the grave sites. I don't care. what walk of life you are from or what race you are. To do this job, is a gift. It's not for everybody. Everybody may not agree as to how you're doing your job. But one thing is for certain. You're doing it. I Thank You. You continue to be a good Stewart over whatever your responsibilities are. There are MANY you will cut up and complain. But at the end of the day, couldn't do a small portion of what you do. So again, I say THANK YOU to all who are entrusted with this job. You are gifted

Otherwise the soil will settle over time and there would be little depressions at each plot.
better a wooden coffin directly in the ground. Return to the earth naturally. Its has work well here in the UK for 1,000 of years.
@@DarrenMalin Yes, but studies have shown that because of that, you have been drinking corpse water for many years now.
@@thomasmint1761 our water quality is better that the USA. Also we have been living for well over 10,000 years , we are doing OK

***** yes they all had a job..1 guy set up the whole tent...chairs..etc...the other guy was 2 seal the vault and help remove the tent etc..and the last guy was to use the machine and cover the hole..they had like 15 funeral that morning
+smithersonjones theres no way they did 15 funerals in a morning . The company i work for can only do about 1 funeral to an hour.
I don't know how many funerals they did but this cemetery be booming..... I cant believe people still responding to this video smh but thanks
Trey Ezernack well at new park Cementary in Memphis be so busy.
.just because you never did that doesn't mean it's not possible

Frater Tenc thats the vault covering, in memphis, they have concrete that go in the hole and it is completely sealed
Keri caye lol they weren't waiting on me...I asked them could I video them finishing...butt all that mattered was the family found it to be nice that I was able to capture to the end...
so different to how its done here in Britain .. coffin - grave, earth straight on top then the coffin after time will collapse as its just wood ...
The more I see things like this the more I think cremation is the away to go.
Sadly, we are all going to get to this point.
Not me, I'm opting for a organic burial in a pod to feed the tree planted above me
ambersuperstar91 yes one point we will but I'll hopefully in about 30 to 40 years
I don't wanna die! Please, somebody help me!

Was the lid off it?
I don't get the concept of embalming a dead person and seal the coffin in a led casket and a concrete vault. Isn't barrials meant to decompose the body?
KirG Utzon without embalming the body will decompose faster. And families want to have funeral services to honor their deceased loved one
R.I.P. 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏🏾 the man did a very good job with the gravesite
That must have been heavy
Neil Sellards I was gonna say we so deep in the burial field...the sun is the electricity
Damned...you again??? Thought you were peacefully decaying in a tree somewhere. Geeze!!
Wow! This was like watching Paint dry!
Yet, we did it anyway! LOL
does it matter which side to stick on first on the concrete vault!!??
Ashes to ashes. RIP.
Who the hell are the disrespectful people laughing in the background while this man is doing a very respectful job of laying someone their final resting place!?🙄😡
They are not disrespectful!!!!! They are visiting their moms grave with out of town family… no one was there but me recording for the family… you should really think bout there are other folk in the permanent spot … I’m pretty sure u have family In spot who, and there graves get walked on and driven over for the next person and their families… and what’s wrong with laughing a lot a grave
Poor Dionne. Other names were blurred out for privacy but not hers
:/
Jenn M nothing was blurred......just showed up like that
During my uncles burial there were people leaving the graveyard doing burnouts that's so disrespectful to do that in a cemetery but when someone is being buried and you do that it's so messed up
I have seen that done at the request of the family the person being buried was a long time member of our car club, and a commercial builder of some custom cars(He did the body on my truck),and in the procession were quite a few customs and Hotrods, the "burn outs" were done carefully-not insane displays, and were requested by the family,it was a way of offering a fond farewell to a friend, the funeral home people rather liked it as well,it was nor disrespect, but quite the opposite.
Great job guys your looking at a pro
How do they get the straps out? I've always wondered.
There are too raised ridges that keep the casket about an inch off the floor so you can get the straps out
THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟❤️🖤💚🤎 FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜,
DONE WITH REAL FEELING, NEXT JOB SCAFFOLDING AT ASDA
you use vault dollies or vault cart for that?
Yall their were no family members their .....just me...they normally wait until everyone gone to close the hole
wow never seen that before
+smithersonjones any funeral I've been too we've always stayed till after the burial, it's a southern thing. But I always stayed to make sure the burial was done right and properly.
+AJ Skinner , yea, then they have to place it on the vault to seal it. Laws are there, lids aren't left off. If you seen this you need to report it.
*there
I made them bury my son in front of me, completly. I needed to know for sure that he was buried. For closure.
We had a full service and viewing for our daughter but then we had her cremated. Its what she wanted. We miss you Beth-elle. She is whole now with a new body in the very presence of Jesus. No more pain. No more suffering.
i am sorry for your loss, Prayers for you and your family. May God grant you peace of mind and heart.
Wilbert vault....
The guy on the tractor just sits there and watches. So today
How do they get the lowering cables out from under the casket once it's lowered?
1armedgal they pull them out
There are small Stand offs in the bottom of the Vault so the straps slip under and Come right out!
That's a Blackhawk Helicopter flying over
What? The upper cover just sticked by tape and not screwed??? How the hell is it possible; would never ever be possible here in France…
