      Gjeebs I just got mine for almost $200 less than that. At first was skeptical, but I received it. TrueBlue is legit. I'll post a link below. Also, with you installing the tune yourself, doesn't that void the warranty? If it didn't, how did you get around that? They say you need to have a Ford Dealer install to maintain a warranty, and even then, it's lowered to 36k 36month...

    So, I bought the 2017 Ford focus ST in Kona Blue and am loving the drive and feel of a new vehicle.
    Again, thank you for your awesome reviews on this particular vehicle. I guess it's a different review from the others because you own this vehicle yourself, as others just drive it for a review. It makes a difference when you actually own the vehicle and drive it everyday.

    Just as a general comment on the whole ( friendly ) "Focus ST vs Fiesta ST" Videos on CZcams, I drove a Fiesta ST for the first time yesterday. It really is as fun and tossable as everyone says online, but for me, I like the much nicer interior, extra power and interior room of the Focus ST. In fact, I'm going to possibly trade in my G37 for a super clean 2013 Focus ST2 tomorrow at a dealer. Take care fellow ST Drivers !! Long live the Manual Transmission !! :-)

    The tune is great my car had the entire frpp on the car when I bought it half a year ago. The 55 year old man before had it installed at the dealer I bought it at. But now the warranty is up and is time to go stage 3! But overall anything Ford performance sells is great and amazing quality that if someone had no idea what they were driving would think this car came like this from the factory. Plus the exhaust is made by borla which is the hands down the best exhaust company in my opinion.

    • @Gjeebs

    I have the same tires, tune and exhaust as you. I made all the same choices. Dude this tune though......should have come stock for sure. Stock tune feels wayyyyy to conservative after this flash. Soooooo much more pull and the road definitely goes by noticeably quicker- Feels like a whole second faster to 60 or the quarter.

    I must say the FRPP calibration is actually pretty damn good. I don't remember if you've done 1 step colder plugs but if not I'd definitely get them done. I myself have opted to go full aftermarket stage 3 with my 17 ST but in doing so I'm also not expecting Ford to do anything for me if it let's go. Just keep about 5k in savings just in case haha. Glad to see you're enjoying the car man, curious since you're about done with what you can do power wise what else is in store for the future.

    I put the Ford racing tune on my '17 St and the shifts were the same for me. The torque steer is the same if not slightly worse. I have the mountune rmm and Cobb exhaust on mine. The torque increase is awesome! I believe this is more a combo of street/track tune. I'd like to see some dyno #s. I have the Ford performance air filter and snorkel coming for mine as well. I also want to upgrade my intercooler. But so far I like the Ford calibration tune! As a FYI you get a reduced warranty from 5/60 to 3/36. That's on ford performance website regarding the calibration. I think a reduced warranty is better than no warranty, especially when it comes to tunes.

    Great video as always! I had a bad experience with Ford Performance tunes (formerly Ford Racing) when I had my 2011 5.0. The tune gave me terrible ping/pre-detonation and my AFRs were dangerously lean which is probably why my fuel efficiency increased. Even after calling Ford Racing, they told me all this was “normal” so I immediately took that off and can’t seem to trust them again with considering this for my ST...
    Also, to my knowledge, this warranty doesn’t piggy back on your existing, it usually replaces it with Ford Racing’s own warranty for 3/36 from time of vehicle purchase (not install date) so better make sure you have all that in writing.
    I am sure your experience will be fine but I remember having the same mentality as you going with Ford over aftermarket because I felt safer thinking it was “OEM” and was sorely disappointed. Good luck though and be sure to report back after you’ve logged some more miles! 👍

      Kevin Z costco is a top tier brand.... Do a little research and you will find that all top tier gas companies provide the best quality as they have to meet certain standards. They will all have different detergents but for cars like the focus ST or other turbo/performance cars it really does help to run only top tier gas.

  • @pumpkinspicelatte1731
    @pumpkinspicelatte1731 Před 6 lety

    I'm going to state this for everyone. This doesn't void or replace your factory warranty. As I have the extended 100k and 7yrs, all it does is kind of replace some of your power train warranty. Depending on your dealer after Fords racing warranty runs out they may still honor your original new car warranty, it does not get voided. Also this only lends itself to the actual power train, everything else is still covered, ac system, electrical system, body, suspension, literally everything else is still covered unless they can somehow say that your tune broke your window switch or your new air filter caused your ac compressor to crap out. An as someone stated in here partially correct, because of the Magnuson act nothing at all voids your warranty, they may be able to deny a certain.claim, but even still, they have to like the one person said prove beyond doubt that something you did or changed caused the issue. And when you have just as many people with a stock car having the same problem as a car with aftermarket parts on it who's to say what caused it?

    • @fabjonjon
      @fabjonjon Před 6 lety

      Pumpkinspicelatte 17 not true. i just went through a blown engine with this tune in my 2014 focus st. warranty goes from 60k to 36k .even if you have the 100k mile extended warranty it puts it to 36k/powertrain. they explain this on the website ford racing. the magnussen act is if its within the warranty time and they deny based on grounds your aftermarket part or mod ruined the part or parts in question, they have the obligation and responsibilty of proving it. also There is no accessport to this kit, your laptop is your access. clunky and dangerous and inconvienient. mine is shattered for this reason...cobb accessport is the way to go anyway. this just spikes the boost sooo much its not safe. there is a good reason they cut the warranty. the rest of the car and some internals and seals are not really happy with the extra torque, at least not for extended periods of time. gimic novelty car i call it. def not any type of race car. just a complex grocery getter with extra useless torque. fun though, but only so much tire spinning and torque steering 2nd gear pulls while spinning one can do before getting bored. brakes fade fast, stock suspension is weak, macpherson struts crap) and the ecoboost engine is expensive, tempormental, and borderline reliable.

  • @charlesjames1442
    @charlesjames1442 Před 4 lety

    My Mountune catback is a straight-through design that I like alot. D-Sport online magazine did a before and after dyno test on it and it was good for 22 WHP(!) because the nearly silent stock exhaust is so restrictive. The Ford Performance (Borla?) muffler sits sideways in the same spot behind the bumper where the stock muffler was. My Mountune unit sounds a little quieter than the Ford one but the torque numbers on the Ford setup are impressive. I also think that the rear-mounted muffler may work with the simple diffuser design on the ST to smooth airflow emerging from under the car, helping to fill the low pressure zone behind the hatch and cutting drag. The Mountune exhaust can't do that. It just has the tail pipe poking out of the rear bumper.

  • @fabjonjon
    @fabjonjon Před 6 lety +1

    i got this tune. All i have gotten is people telling me how bad it is compared to a cobb ap3 and a diff tune. This tune seems to shoot the boost up to 25lbs, without any other mods provided. People will be dealing with heak soak non stop. Also i blew my motor within 15k miles with this tune. ringlands dont like that boost spike. The cobb boosts less but seems to be able to put down power just as well. I think the Procal is a stage 2 ish tune with no intercooler and instead they offer an exhaust that gives little to no difference in power. Grrrrrr. Heat soak is an issue in these until you change intwrcooler yet that voids the warranty. Its set up to keep your warranty yet is also set up for a heavy pull now and then, and thats it. Heat and these small turbos, and direct injection really creats heat. Why they wouldnt put the intercooler as part of the for racing kit I have no idea.

      @@sb731968 well we put in another motor. It wasnt cheap, new turbo to go along with it, coilovers, and new tires and some other odds and ends. Got a major humm at the front of the car. Not sure what it is. Its either the carrier bearing on passenger side cv axle or the carrier bearing on the inside of tranny where cv axles connect. Or maybe something else all together but its annoying and makes the car feel slow and handles wierd because of it. Hopefully I can get the bugs worked out. Going back to shop to get everything checked. I ended up finding a handtight oil drain bolt, many couplers on the intake not in place correctly, and bolts not tightend correctly. Theres a chance being lowered with stock wheels and hubcentric spacers 20mm and 25mm rear that the new coilovers being installed that the wheels are out of balence and or alignment. Hard to believe it would make that much hum though. But maybe.

    I also added the Ford Racing tune with the CAI. It came with a set of cooler plugs and the ProCal II Unit that could be returned for a $75 refund (I kept it.). Horse power and torque increase was very noticeable. Gas mileage went down a few miles per gallon but only 2 MPG on the highway I now get 30 MPG driving very conservatively. My ST3 is a 2013 with just 22.6K on the clock so mileage is not really a factor. My track day experience before and after was not significant. Top speed on the front straight in Fontana was 126 MPH (GPS indicated using Harry's Laptimer) before and 123 MPH after (also GPS indicated). The FRPP also changed a few of the warning lights in the speedo/dash.
    Install performed by local SuperPerformance (cobra/shelby dealer).

      They like selling mods and tunes at high prices; like the navigation updates at $150 per. They aren't the only ones, of course. The ST was designed to sell at a profit, so a fair amount of upgrading is left to the retail buyer. But the Focus gives you a good platform to work with. Thank goodness for third-party modifications!

      Other than the fact that they want more money, the stock ecu can use 87 octane fuel which is cheaper and most people prefer buying regular fuel. Also, this tune likely requires some additional performance hardware to properly handle it. Like performance intercooler, exhaust, intake, cold sparks.

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  Před 6 lety

    • @esomerrick
      @esomerrick Před 6 lety

      RGBGFIVE but in theory shouldn't this still be reliable since it's covered under warranty? To me it's kind of like a car that has an Eco mode and a Sport or Performance mode but to be able to use it you had to pay an extra fee. Like don't get me wrong, I would probably do it too if I had an ST and I have a tuner for my car. It just seems weird that the manufacturer is selling it to you and covering it under warranty.

    • @Chaddz3
      @Chaddz3 Před 6 lety

      There's alot of things to consider as to why Ford did this. #1 is probably Insurance costs. Insurance rates are based on power/torque output. Back in the muscle car era, the big three would often underrate power output to fool the insurance companies. #2 this tune is like any other option.. you have the standard tune and this would be the dealer installed option, its a way to make more money from the people who are willing to buy it. For those that are ok with the lower standard output, or dont have the driving skills or need for the extra power to be forced in to it.
