  • What is a Tramper?
A tramper is an off-road all terrain mobility scooter.
These are very impressive, they are said to be able to cope with snow, woods, tough terrain and sand.
They can be hired around the UK at certain places and sometimes you can go out on your own with them but most of the time they ask you to have a companion.
This is due to maybe poor phone signal or in case of emergencies in certain rural areas.
    Weight limit: 25 Stone
    Speed: 4-8 MPH
Distance: 30 Miles depending on terrain
Features: Compartment at front, Crutches holder, swivel seat for easy access, hazard lights, lights, horn, indicators, speed adjustment, tortoise and hare set speed. Changeable left or right hand steering, seat adjustment and back adjustment.
Terrain: Is classed as being able to go through woodland, beaches ,compressed sand, challenging terrain, snow and a serious all terrain off-roader that does 1 in 4 hill at 25 degrees (is what they advertise)
Hire or buy: can be hired from many sites that are a member of the Countryside mobility or outdoor mobility scheme. To buy they cost around £8,000 new. They are said to not lose their value quickly. You may be able to find a second hand one. Please do enquire about the age of the batteries as they take 2 and aren't that cheap to buy. They say around 3 years life but that is if they have been looked after and been put on trickle charge.
Places: Some places have 2 trampers or more.
Do I need to take anything? My advise would maybe consider taking a blanket or cushion for the back as a little extra support if needed, especially if it is a challenging terrain. Maybe wet weather gear too. Best to check the forecast before you go. Some places might provided a blanket.
Booking: Please either phone or email the premises that have the trampers for hire. Please note they are not always advertised by the premises.
How long can you use it for? Please be mindful that some places only have one tramper and they may only hire out for a few hours. Some you can either have for the morning session or afternoon session.
Do I need to be disabled to hire one?
Absolutely not, you might be recovering from an operation or just have one of those days where your struggling. We all need a little help sometime.
Is there a fee? If you are a member of the scheme then most places will not charge extra. Some may charge an extra £2.50 an hour.
Membership: You can join for a year which can be £15 or for 2 weeks or just for the day.
What if I am left handed? The Tramper can be adjusted to left or right handed.
As long as you can turn the handle with your wrist then you will be able to taste a bit of freedom on these great fun and life changing all terrains.
This is not only to help feel a sense of the outdoors for yourself but also for your nearest and dearest to enjoy the special time with you in the outdoors.
I have met many people on my travels that have said they need one but are not yet that bad to use them yet, or I would be taken it from someone else booking it.
You are just as important is my answer! Or the other one is people will think I’m disabled and look at me!
So my answer to this is, life is to short.
Why not have a go, If you use it now it could give you more quality of life.
Quality with your family, they will be so glad that you do do it as you can carry the picnic and the excess coats. People always love someone to carry the bags :)
This is all a personal choice.
Have the best time ever with these amazing all terrains !!!
Let it enable you! Then you can plan your next day out.
    Have fun
    Best wishes
