People have asked me how to down-shift. It's easy, so let me explain. Never (never) downshift using the splitter. Just forget that is even there. Weather in High or low just let it alone. Ok. Now just down-shift as needed. 4, 3, 2, 1. Then whatever gear you end up in, start at that point going back thru the gears. Now remember, if you are empty, there is no need to even use the splitter at all. I hope this answers your question. Also keep in mind when troubleshooting, the splitter uses a vacuum line and that is located under the truck. Mine was on passenger side.

Thank you for the safety writing on NOT using splitter for down shift. Yes when light, you can split it only in 4th. Or like you said.

Thank you for update video. Yes you shift like I use to. Had a F-600 Ford, with a 4 and two speed Axil. Pulled a Case 580 in the late 70s.
Drove meany 5 speed with 2 speed Axils also
One was a GMC with a 4-71 Detroit. That was a powerful engine for that Dump. Never ran out of power even with a Loaded dump box. The same owner had a Ford C-750 Short, with Lowboy for pulling his Case 580.

With the vacuum leak fixed it's alot easier to switch between high and low gears. Just flip from low into high. THen when ready, just let off gas and then back on gas and it changes. Saves from having to step on clutch 8 times for each gear. (Sadly I had to sell this truck. But always have good memories of it.) Truck was a beast! GVWR is 24,000 pounds on rear axles and 15,000 on front axles. Plus it had both a Gooseneck hitch and a regular trailer hitch. Miss ya, Jolly Green!

once you move that shift button you should complete the shift immediately. You have to think about what is going on mechanically. As soon as you touch that button it start putting pressure on the shift fork inside that rear end. As long as you are on that gas it cannot move that shift fork, but it is trying desperately to do so. This will wear out that shift motor whether it is vacuum or electric plus put extra stress on that shift fork. So on an axle only upshift as soon as you lift that button either get off the gas or depress the clutch immediately.

If you read what I wrote you would know what was going on. But I guess you are one if those that need your hand held and do everything for you. Allow me to say again "Fixed vacuum leak and shifting properly now". Next time read! Loser.
