i like John Lewis and he has written some nice pieces but when it comes to piano playing there is simple no comparison with the great Hank Jones. A wonderfully smooth rhythm section of Bob Cranshaw and Alan Dawson makes it all more pleasant. None of these gentlemen are with us any longer but I am grateful to have known them and have worked with some of them.
There's a video of Kenny Barron playing Autumn Leaves with Bob Cranshaw and Alan Dawson that is probably the definitive version of that song, as far as I'm concerned. Few handle brushwork as well as Alan Dawson.
I was blessed to catch John Lewis with The Great MJQ a few times at LA's Hermosa Beach, Jazz Lighthouse @30 Pier Ave & Hank Jones accompanying Lady Ella also in LA
A great standard. i dedicate to "Bianco". who is Bianco? glad you ask . . . 2-engine white flying plane, aerial acrobat in the sky - excellent pilot. ;¬) you are "Bianco" ! Aha ! be well. *chuckles* x [P.S. also reknown flamenco dancer. si.)
Ohhh so nice. These guys are on point!
Pure magic! So effortless!

It's a conversation, not a competition.
Superb!
2 of Yardbird's favorite piano players!
Wonderful treat

A pleasure to listen to. 👍
Fantástico! Grandes músicos!

L' assolo di John Lewis è strepitoso !
Masters ...
Obviously beautiful piano, but the brush kit (drums) is sweet on this... so smooth I love it.
Alan Dawson replaced Joe Morello in the Brubeck Quartet; I think that says it all 😃
Phenomenal! And thoroughly copacetic !!
Masters.
The epitome of taste
Amazing pianist's, unbelievable! My heart is melting.. Thx. elysin4wd! :*
Two masters who will always be missed. Pure elegance. Thanks for uploading it.

Neither really is a bop pianist.

Incredible
Also Alan Dawson on drums another master who is no longer with us.
Kern's composition here in & of itself is a Masterpiece in Music engineering, not to mention Hammerstein11's lyrics
Perfect solos! On finisher to the first, do you ear "Santa Claus is coming to town". Great!
Two piano aces.
You are very lucky to have this footage.
nice!!
With the fabulous Bob Cranshaw on bass...
great

the cameraman liked it soo much, he shook the camera
😀🌱🌾💙
I loved them both. Are they alive?
Jass washes away the secular dirt
Jazz standard played by two giants who are no longer with us.
FOUR giants who will always be with us.
Alan Dawson, drums; Bob Cranshaw, bass (I guess...)
That's right.
I also like the movie Alan Dawson at young time is playing very much.
all the things you are

Although it is sad, both persons have passed away.

Two departed masters
John Lewis should never have had a career in Jazz as his playing is simplistic and dull.
Nonsense.
