    What a great clip. Hearing Lutzka talk about all that just brought back so many memories. Got my first board at Walmart in '87, orange, fish tail, with the tiger striped gripe. Got a real board about a year later because the bearing seized up. I never even saw a magazine or anyone doing a modern/real trick until like '91-'92. It's crazy how far things have come.

    Good job Greg, “hardcore” skaters will claim selling out, but it’s a great entry level board and great for low income families to hook their kids up with something decent. When fast food is 20 bucks a meal, a skateboard for 30 bucks is making a lot of kids (and parents) day.

      I’m backing this 100% there’s so many kids out there that want to try skating but don’t come from a family that can afford $200 on a legit setup. My first skateboard was from Walmart an even though it sucked I loved it because it was mine. Haha skated that thing literally till it broke

    My biggest complaint as a kid was Wheels and bearings. I could get by with a flat/non concave cheap board and plastic trucks. But Plastic wheels and abec3 bearings, just made it unable to ride for real. For my birthday my mom took me to a local skate shop and finally got some real wheels and bearings. Element wheels and redz.

    I'm glad Chris brought it up at the very end, because it's something I was thinking about the whole time: if there's going to be entry level boards in these stores, I'd rather them be designed/provided by core guys in the industry. Yes, they may not be top of the line, but you can at least feel confident in knowing the board is quality wood, the trucks are metal, the wheels are urethane, the bearings *work*. And like Greg pointed out, if a kid's first experience is on a plastic hunk of crap, you're running the risk of turning them off from skating. This is rad.

I have a car trunk full of zero, love skate, Powell Peralta, dog town and other brands I skate, however as each kid and now grandkid got into skating they pretty much started out on a Walmart Board, typically a birdhouse. Your kid tells you they want to play guitar you don’t run out and buy a Gibson Les Paul and a Marshall stack, you get them an epiphone or squire. He is like the Shaquille O’Neill of skateboards.

    This is just more proof that there's no financial longevity in skateboarding unless you are Janoski or Busenitz. Supposedly, in mid-90s to the 2000s, the pros got paid a lot, but those days are long gone. Your favorite pro works a 40 hour a week job and then skates pro. Girl/Chocolate was partly created, so skaters would have more longevity, but that was 1993. As much as I hate Monster and Red Bull, Walmart people forget that people need $ and careers. I'm core, though, so the corporate side of skateboarding and it being mainstream bums me out in like an artistic way. The one thing that's always good is the actual skateboarding, it's still so sick. I feel bad for kids who didn't get to see what skateboarding was like in the 90s. All small, core companies.

    luzka is no dumbie. why not put your board in a store that’ll be more likely to sell and start kids on skateboarding then an intimidating skate shop that’ll rip you off for a board that a kid will most likely leave outside before actually deciding if they want to skate.

    Good for Greg. I skipped straight to a complete bc the Walmart and target boards didn’t even roll at the time. Unusable . 9 club is right, they weren’t even fun

    Based off what youtubers have said about their own beginner boards, Lutzka is for sure not getting rich off this atleast right now. You gotta get your money however you can but i think he actually believes in the product and idea behind it.

      Complete cap. 🧢 but in what context? Ya know. 😢😢😢
      Is he lying that it costs about 10$ to make a low level Chinese skateboard ? No. Is it possible to sell it barely with margin of 20$ to target and they sell it for $30 if you ask me spending 10$ to make $10 is not cap. That is called business.

    Too many stigmas on what skateboarders are supposed to be doing and not doing while outsiders with open minds have stolen the market.

    • @turbocateyeS475

      It's a weird way to say it but I'm guessing his actually boards have better glue, maybe a different type of maple. Could have some carbon. And then legit trucks, wheels, bearings and hardware. That beginner board is made out of the same materials as real boards, just a lesser quality. The kryptonics ones are basically plywood with shit tolerances. For $35 he's for sure not getting rich off them

    • @heyman620
      @heyman620 Před 2 měsíci

      He probably isn't allowed to say he skates a replica of another sponsor due to legal stuff, doesn't worth the risk and he wants to skate what he is used to.
      It's super easy to just create an upgraded version, he was pretty straightforward about that.

    • @IDiggPattyMayonnaise
      @IDiggPattyMayonnaise Před 2 měsíci

      @@turbocateyeS475He's definitely gonna make decent money off them. They're not all US handmade materials. This is cheap mass market production from China so the profit margins is still worthwhile for the quality. To fill a shelf with 4-5 boards in all the big box stores across the country, there's tens of thousands of stores in the US. Walmart alone has almost 5000 stores itself. In the summer these boards will be sold out daily. Im a salesman for box stores and all the scooters/bikes/boards all are stacked and displayed for promotions I'm the summer.

      I’m sure he means his “upgraded” board is a legit deck probably made by one of the places that makes skate brand decks, then he has Indy’s, mob grip, Ricta wheels, and whatever else he is sponsored by/wants to ride.
      To avoid the idea of people complaining, “why can’t these price point boards have your upgraded parts?”, he is treading the water with what he actually rides to avoid nonesense. For $35 people shouldn’t expect a lot, though too many naive parents seem to believe all boards are equal when clearly you get what you pay for.

    • @heyman620
      @heyman620 Před 2 měsíci

      @@switch209gaming But I am 100% sure that if he says so, it's truly better than the terrible shit people used before for that price. I mean, why not? He is a skater and understand the requirements better. At least the wheels fucking roll.
