I saw him in 1984 in Columbus GA. He was one hell of a singer and front man . I can still see the frightened people who didn't know what the hell was going on , he loved to scare simple minds !
I still can't understand how anyone who has every watched a video or been to one of his concerts can call this man evil or scary. I've seen the guy 14 times from 1985 thru 2009 and met him twice and there isn't a single evil bone in this man's body. On stage he does nothing but shake hands with fans during every single song and from the first song to the last he wears a grin a mile wide. This mans charisma level was off the charts. You can't help but leave one of his shows with an ear to ear grin on your face and feeling like a better person to boot. This man was special and there will never be another one like him.

Oh yes I can tell you! I grew up listening this very album, since there was no MTV I had no idea how Dio and the rest of the band looked like... so to me it was part of the ordinary life listening every song of this fantastic album.

There are so many themes in this song, from religious/mystical, to socio-psycho-sexual, to cultural, even political, that Edgar Allan Poe would weep to try and parse it, that is how dense it is, with meaning. The whole second verse is about a gay man, which is whatever now but it was pretty unusual territory for 80s metal to touch upon. (openly I mean, so I don't mean Judas Priest..) Dio was nonconformist to the core
Without a shadow of a doubt. Always been a favorite of mine. And it's not just the songs either just about every part of this record, from the drums to the lyrics, kick.You can break this album down into tiny pieces and it still stands up. I spent way too many hours of my youth rocking out to this.

Definitely. No question. Probably near RJD's best track period, a few Rainbow tracks could be argued, but even RJD stint in Rainbow (probably the best ensemble in rock history) couldn't touch this imo.

Not enough is said about Vivian Campbells guitar work on those first few DIO albums. The guitar solo on the track especially, is so emotional. It reminds me a lot of Jimmy Page the way he places the notes perfectly to convey pure feel and emotion for the song. One of the best (2) solos on the album
RJD's vocals that can carry a tune with the best AND can growl with the best puts him in the pantheon of all-time greatest singers of any musical genre ever. In heavy metal he is only matched but not outdone by only a select few. Plus, you can say he had the balls to write about things in this song no one else had the stones to do so back in the day. I still can't understand how anyone who has every watched a video or been to one of his concerts can call this man evil or scary. I've seen the guy 14 times from 1985 thru 2009 and met him twice and there isn't a single evil bone in this man's body. On stage he does nothing but shake hands with fans during every single song and from the first song to the last he wears a grin a mile wide. This mans charisma level was off the charts. You can't help but leave one of his shows with an ear to ear grin on your face and feeling like a better person to boot. This man was special and there will never be another one like him.
This was good fuel to get away from my toxic family. I became invisible, free to be me and find my own path amongst other like-minded people.

Oh yes I can tell you! I grew up listening this very album, since there was no MTV I had no idea how Dio and the rest of the band looked like... so to me it was part of the ordinary life listening every song of this fantastic album.
The solo by Vivian is a wild scale run,this is his best album of all,no filler tracks,the pinnacle for the band,I was the last in line tour August, 1984 at Nassau coliseum on long island, NY, I still here at 54,seen hundreds of shows

There are so many themes in this song, from religious/mystical, to socio-psycho-sexual, to cultural, even political, that Edgar Allan Poe would weep to try and parse it, that is how dense it is, with meaning. Not enough is said about Vivian Campbells guitar work on those first few DIO albums.
The guitar solo on the track especially, is so emotional. It reminds me a lot of Jimmy Page the way he places the notes perfectly to convey pure feel and emotion for the song.

RJD's vocals that can carry a tune with the best AND can growl with the best puts him in the pantheon of all-time greatest singers of any musical genre ever. In heavy metal he is only matched but not outdone by only a select few. Plus, you can say he had the balls to write about things in this song no one else had the stones to do so back in the day. All Hail Mr. Ronnie James Dio!

"The song 'Invisible', we had the riff and came back the next day or night and said, 'Let's listen to the riff we had.' We put the tape in backward. It was a four-track tape played backward. We were cracking up because our soundman Angelo [Arcuri] put the tape in backward. We're like, 'Wait a minute! That sounds good.' So we learned the riff backward. If you listen to 'Invisible', there's the riff that starts the song and the verse is backward. We were open to any crazy thing that happened. The intro to 'Invisible' was the sound of air escaping [from a tire]. It was Ronnie's idea to do that. Our friend had a truck and a spare tire. We brought that in, miked up the tire, and let the air out. Then we put some effect on it and did it a number of times. That was the intro to 'Invisible'. Crazy stuff. Whoever miked a tire?
