The game tells you more than once that once you become an Infected the original person is gone. It's likely that Sam sat facing away from Ellie like you said - so that if he turned he wouldn't hear her when he became infected. Once he became infected he just sat on the bed. In the game the Infected's default state is usually to stand in one spot, motionless - they don't start moving around until they hear something. Which means if Ellie had just snuck out of the room would Infected-Sam have sat there forever since he would never have heard anything to get his attention?
The stages of infection is as follows. Runner, stalker (which is when the infection partially covers the face. And they can still see, and they stalk you, hence the name), then clicker and then bloater. There is another, but that's from the second game, which I won't spoil for you.
The reusable pads were called Magic Slates. They were big when I was a kid in the 70's. The basic design was the same but you could get Batman, Star Trek, cartoon characters. They were fun.
The weapon jams are super realistic. Guns being used excessively and being in harsh environmental conditions without cleaning and lubing will result in that. Thing is though there's tons of cars that still have gas in them. Automatic transmission fluid from said cars can be used as gun lube. But I guess unless you knew about guns people wouldn't know to do that.
someone did a screen shot of the child clicker that attacked Ellie and she had a Blues Clues shirt on. So the theory is she was one of the kids that was in that underground room in the tunnels where they were staying.

One thing I thought about the other day (almost a fanfic in my head): when Kathleen is in the bedroom she grew up, Perry said he had to ask her mother about her whereabouts, which means Kathleen probably was the one that told her that her son died and, as we learnt, the brother was a very nice, gentle and forgiving person so the mother probably was devastated... that is reason enough to swing her all the way towards blind revenge. So, yes, she was extremely over the top in her actions... but I can see why.

When she asks Henry if he thinks Sam's life is worth everything, that's a heavy question. She actually means everything. She is asking Henry if it's worthy not to kill just one man, a good man at that, but to jeopardize the well-being and freedom of everybody else. In her eyes, what Henry did was to damn everyone, not only her, to a world without Michael. And a world without Michael is not one worthy of his virtues. After his death, that's no point in forgiveness.

In the game you're with Henry and Sam longer because there is a lot more exploration and combat you go through with them. For example, in the show the sewers involved going underground, finding that hideout, staying the night, and then leaving. But in the game there's a lot of exploration of the sewers, you fight Infected, the group gets separated, more fighting. I'd say that you might spend as much time with Henry and Sam as you spend with Tess (when it's Joel, Tess and Ellie).
Ellie was smirking when she got the gun, because it was in her jacket, not her backpack like Joel said. I don't know how much you remember from Part 2, but you want to pay some really good attention next episode, even if you can't really talk about it with her. Runner -> Stalker -> Clicker -> Bloater - is what you saw up to this point in the show.
I'm not a gamer but from what I gathered from other reactors there is one more stage of infection between runner and clicker called "stalker" where a portion of their face has the mushrooms coming out of it but they aren't full clicker but they make the noises because they're starting to go blind. That's why the creature was able to hear Ellie when she climbed in the truck. She could still partially see.

I love this episode, cause it showed, Monsters create Monsters. Fedra were monsters, so Kathleen help make the rebels be monsters. Her brother was most likely diplomatic or peaceful. "Everybody gonna do what's best for them" yep, always. But Kathleen is right, why is sam more important than anybody else. Truly, everyone is important to somebody. Folks hate Kathleen for that kids line, but she's right, in this world kids die all the time, ie the child clicker. She was blinded by vengeance, but really most people would.
The child clicker being acted by a 9 year old gymnast and contortionist just blew my mind. She accompanied the Bloater's awesomeness beautifully. Also, anyone who says they aren't sold by Bella Ramsey's performance as Ellie by now is lying. She was incredible in this episode.
Bella is great. I've heard that some gamers don't like Pedro Pascal because he is unable to grow a full beard like the character Joel in the game. I guess they prefer a clone of Joel in the game over someone who can act.

It didn't matter if Ellie was quiet in the car. One of the clicker's eyes was uncovered. It could still see her. Just like the one that killed Tess. One thing the Normies pointed out was that Sam as an infected was still deaf, and probably would have sat there inactive until he had input. Once he knew she was there, he attacked.
Good points.👍 But even without the eye, the clicker would have located Ellie. As Ellie has put it twice, clickers can "see" like bats. Unless you hide your body behind something to prevent them from seeing the outline of a human body, you are not safe from them.
You're right that it doesn't matter if Ellie was quiet but it's not because the clicker can see. I checked and the clicker does have both eyes covered. The reason it wouldn't matter is that clickers use a form of echo location. It's the reason they do the clicking sound. Using echo location, you can actually tell the difference between flesh and other material like a car seat. This is actually quite realistic as humans can tech themselves echo location by clicking their tongues. Here is a link to a CZcams video that shows what one such person can actually do. The actor that plays Perry, Kathleen's right hand man, is the voice actor for tommy in the game. Also the way he dies, head pulled from his body, is the same way you die from the bloater in the game.
In the game Sam is the same age as Ellie (and not deaf), and has a bit of a crush on Ellie. When he asks Ellie how old she is, she says she's 14 and he says "Oh, me too." and Henry jokingly says "Oh, you're 14 now?" But I like making Sam younger here, as we get a really nice older sister/younger brother dynamic between the two. Any scene of the two of them hugging hit me right in the feels, especially since - having played the game - I knew what was going to happen.
Runners: first stage. They can see, have no fungal growths on them, and they, well, run. Stalkers: second stage. They have some fungal growths on them but they can still see. Clickers: third stage. Fungal growths covering their head. They can't see and "click". Bloaters: fourth stage. Been infected for a long long time. Fungal growth covering their entire body, acting as armor.
Stalkers are between Runners and Clickers. Runners are newly infected so they have no fungal growth on their body. Stalkers have some growth, but they can still see. Clickers have a lot of fungal growth covering their head so they can't see. Bloaters are obviously when the fungal growth has covered the entire body (in multiple layers).
This show is SO good it makes me wish I hadn't played the game beforehand so I could be completely surprised. Even though I know what's coming (for the most part) this show is still an emotional gut punch. It's just so damn good so far.

I didn't play the game, so I didn't know what was going to happen and it was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout the entire series. Pedro and Bella were fantastic as well as the other actors throughout the episodes. Such a good show. At first it was making me feel kind of depressed, but it was so good at the same time, I kept watching. So glad I did because it was really a good show. Sadly, while looking on CZcams for a good reaction video, I saw a headline of what happens to Joel in Part 2, and I'm still upset that I saw it. I just wish folks who react would just put the episode name up and not mention some of the episode content in the headline, so we don't get spoilers.

Excellent acting by Bella in the scene where Henry shoots himself. Her whimpers instinctively gave me a fatherly urge to hug her The swarm scene is incredible good and creepy The "I'm sorry" at the end got me so hard. I cried 4 of 5 episodes and I love this show

The violent uprising to a tyrannical ruling body is shocking, but extremely accurate to how revolutions work, historically speaking. We see this all the time during bloody civil wars, and very recent ones at that. Yes, often times, the rebellion that succeeds do become more horrible than the overthrown governments, so this show illustrates this well. Another reactor made an amazing observation: this episode might have been the end of Ellie’s childhood, the end of her innocence. She was given such a beautiful opportunity in her relationship with Sam. Her anger in the end was reflective of Joel’s hesitation to establish any sort of relationship with Ellie, as he’s still haunted by the pain of losing Sarah 20 years ago. Looking forward to your next episode reaction.
Hmm do you think the pacing is slightly off? Joel and Ellie's relationship hasn't been developed as well as it should have. They spend too much time on side characters. The characters as individual are developing fine though
Most infected don't get past the Clicker stage. They'll eventually go dormant and die to spread the infection into the environment. But some people are so physically strong that their body resists dying and those people, with enough time, become Bloaters. The infection pretty much encases their entire body giving them armor of sorts. In the game, they also throw spore bombs at people, but the show isn't doing spores.
25:24 What is kind of missed in Kathleen's kids speech is that in her logic Sam had Leukemia and was "supposed" to die and her brother was not. It's not exactly my brother is more important than yours, it's a "fate" kinda thing she's referencing. It could have been wording better in the writing.

Might be a good move to not care about anybody or you'd need tissues out for every episode and we only have so much rainforest left without this excellent bugger of a show making us blub into the last (of us) few trees worth of tissues. Excellent episode and ending, I've already seen the next episode and I was just thinking during it that they nailed the pacing of the series well, I never felt a lull, it just changes gears at the right spots to avoid it.

In the game Henry and Sam's death hit so hard because you spend a large section of the game with them and get to know them. But the show was hard to watch.

TBR mentioned GOT preparing us to lose favorite characters, but The Walking Dead (TWD) was also a show that killed so many favorite characters and because it was apocalyptic, it also shows you how it is so hard to say one person is good and another person is bad. There are too many grey areas. When Henry says, "What did I do? and then says "Sam" it was heartbreaking. Also, TWD was based on a comic book and although some things were depicted almost the same, there were many differences, and it was still a good show (until season 7 for me). So, I don't understand why so many people are so critical of the changes/differences in this live action adaption. It is not the same scene for scene as the game, but it is still a very good series, and the acting is superb. When I read so many comparisons and negative comments, it makes me feel bad that so many people are never satisfied and seem to always find something wrong with everything.

She smiled because Joel told her to put the gun in her backpack but she had it on the jacket and when Joel noticed she smiled like when a kid does something wrong and gets caught and smile. 20:05 Leg and foot it’s 12-24hrs, torso, arm, hand and shoulder is 2-8hrs, and neck, head and face 5-15m. Also, when Joel watched Ellie and Sam plays soccer it reminded her of Sarah, she used to play soccer. 22:30 That change about Sam telling Ellie is great, especially for the future. If you haven’t finish the game then don’t read this but if you have then……the change is good because it also shows that Ellie really wants to help with her immunity. They’ve done a great job planting seeds for the future.
I'm in no way saying Kathleen was right but she and her people were exchanged for goods as if they weren't even human by others. Yes, Henry did it to protect Sam but living in a world surrounded by death and evil, how could you not end up like her when you know the person who got your brother brutally killed is getting away? She needed to die but I think people are too quick to judge seeing how a lot of people react emotionally in regular every day life.

The first time you can access your inventory in Boston, Joel already has 2 artifacts - one of them is a book explaining the 4 stages of Infected, with a brief explanation of each - Runners, Stalkers, Clickers, and B_____ (the last one is torn away to keep Bloaters as a surprise). There are other times in the first game when either Joel or artifacts calls them "Stalkers". And in the DLC Ellie literally say "Stalkers" when they show up when you are looking for gas for the generator.
The stalker was the infected the Ellie stabbed with her knife on the basement when it was trapped underneath the rubble in the beginning of the 3rd episode

The actor that plays Perry, Kathleen's right hand man, is the voice actor for tommy in the game. Also the way he dies, head pulled from his body, is the same way you die from the bloater in the game.

In the game Sam is the same age as Ellie (and not deaf), and has a bit of a crush on Ellie. When he asks Ellie how old she is, she says she's 14 and he says "Oh, me too." and Henry jokingly says "Oh, you're 14 now?"
But I like making Sam younger here, as we get a really nice older sister/younger brother dynamic between the two. Any scene of the two of them hugging hit me right in the feels, especially since - having played the game - I knew what was going to happen.
I quite like how infected *Sam* didn't know *Ellie* was in the room, because he couldn't hear. But once she touched him… 😳

Runners: first stage. They can see, have no fungal growths on them, and they, well, run.
Stalkers: second stage. They have some fungal growths on them but they can still see.
Clickers: third stage. Fungal growths covering their head. They can't see and "click".
Bloaters: fourth stage. Been infected for a long long time. Fungal growth covering their entire body, acting as armor.

You missed Stalkers, who are between Runner and Bloater. Stalkers are like the one that "kissed" Tess
And another Stalker is the one that was stuck in episode 3 that Ellie cut and killed.
Stalkers are between Runners and Clickers. Runners are newly infected so they have no fungal growth on their body. Stalkers have some growth, but they can still see. Clickers have a lot of fungal growth covering their head so they can't see. Bloaters are obviously when the fungal growth has covered the entire body (in multiple layers).
This show is SO good it makes me wish I hadn't played the game beforehand so I could be completely surprised. Even though I know what's coming (for the most part) this show is still an emotional gut punch. It's just so damn good so far.

I didn't play the game, so I didn't know what was going to happen and it was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions throughout the entire series. Pedro and Bella were fantastic as well as the other actors throughout the episodes. Such a good show. At first it was making me feel kind of depressed, but it was so good at the same time, I kept watching. So glad I did because it was really a good show. Sadly, while looking on CZcams for a good reaction video, I saw a headline of what happens to Joel in Part 2, and I'm still upset that I saw it. I just wish folks who react would just put the episode name up and not mention some of the episode content in the headline, so we don't get spoilers.

This episode was wild!
The violent uprising to a tyrannical ruling body is shocking, but extremely accurate to how revolutions work, historically speaking. We see this all the time during bloody civil wars, and very recent ones at that. Yes, often times, the rebellion that succeeds do become more horrible than the overthrown governments, so this show illustrates this well.
Another reactor made an amazing observation: this episode might have been the end of Ellie’s childhood, the end of her innocence. She was given such a beautiful opportunity in her relationship with Sam. Her anger in the end was reflective of Joel’s hesitation to establish any sort of relationship with Ellie, as he’s still haunted by the pain of losing Sarah 20 years ago.

Most infected don't get past the Clicker stage. They'll eventually go dormant and die to spread the infection into the environment. But some people are so physically strong that their body resists dying and those people, with enough time, become Bloaters. The infection pretty much encases their entire body giving them armor of sorts. In the game, they also throw spore bombs at people, but the show isn't doing spores.
I know, that part of the game I miss but I understand why they did it

I actually don't hate Kathleen. I feel sad for her. Yes, she is a lunatic and her actions are not redeemable, but she is more than that.
You can see through her discourse how much Fedra's actions impacted her, how much she suffered for her people, and ultimately how her humanity was slowly stripped away from her. In both episodes, when confronting Eldestein and other collaborators, all she talks about is how people were tortured and killed. Then, when she talked about her brother, we can see that she was probably the more sensitive of the two, being the one that needed to be protected (even now, as an adult).
So, in her perspective, her brother was not taken away just from her, but from everybody he was supposed to free, guide and protect. When she asks Henry if he thinks Sam's life is worth everything, that's a heavy question. She actually means everything. She is asking Henry if it's worthy not to kill just one man, a good man at that, but to jeopardize the well-being and freedom of everybody else. In her eyes, what Henry did was to damn everyone, not only her, to a world without Michael. And a world without Michael is not one worthy of his virtues. After his death, that's no point in forgiveness.
Might be a good move to not care about anybody or you'd need tissues out for every episode and we only have so much rainforest left without this excellent bugger of a show making us blub into the last (of us) few trees worth of tissues. Excellent episode and ending, I've already seen the next episode and I was just thinking during it that they nailed the pacing of the series well, I never felt a lull, it just changes gears at the right spots to avoid it.

In the game Henry and Sam's death hit so hard because you spend a large section of the game with them and get to know them. But the show was hard to watch.
Yeah, I wish Henry and Sam had stuck around for at least 1 more episode to make it as impactful in the game when they both die.

I recommend that you watch and react to the movie SULLY with Tom Hanks. Based on a true story.
TBR mentioned GOT preparing us to lose favorite characters, but The Walking Dead (TWD) was also a show that killed so many favorite characters and because it was apocalyptic, it also shows you how it is so hard to say one person is good and another person is bad. There are too many grey areas. When Henry says, "What did I do? and then says "Sam" it was heartbreaking.
Also, TWD was based on a comic book and although some things were depicted almost the same, there were many differences, and it was still a good show (until season 7 for me). So, I don't understand why so many people are so critical of the changes/differences in this live action adaption. It is not the same scene for scene as the game, but it is still a very good series, and the acting is superb. When I read so many comparisons and negative comments, it makes me feel bad that so many people are never satisfied and seem to always find something wrong with everything.
The guy with the beard is the voice actor for Joel's Brother Tommy in the game as well as his mocap.

I'm in no way saying Kathleen was right but she and her people were exchanged for goods as if they weren't even human by others. Yes, Henry did it to protect Sam but living in a world surrounded by death and evil, how could you not end up like her when you know the person who got your brother brutally killed is getting away? She needed to die but I think people are too quick to judge seeing how a lot of people react emotionally in regular every day life.
Until the kids die speach, couldn't relate to her after that.

between runner and clicker is stalker but I dont think they introduced them until the second game? maybe? memory is fuzzy.
Stalkers are in the first game. You fight them in the hotel basement and in the sewers when you are with just Sam.

The first time you can access your inventory in Boston, Joel already has 2 artifacts - one of them is a book explaining the 4 stages of Infected, with a brief explanation of each - Runners, Stalkers, Clickers, and B_____ (the last one is torn away to keep Bloaters as a surprise).
There are other times in the first game when either Joel or artifacts calls them "Stalkers".
And in the DLC Ellie literally say "Stalkers" when they show up when you are looking for gas for the generator.
