    The cool thing about this is that all the minifigs are actually based on the 501st skins in EA's Battlefront 2! If you combine them with the figures from the prior 501st set, you have a "squad" from the game, including the jet trooper reinforcement.

    I will never stop saying this, I SO BADLY want a battlepack with just plain, white p2 troopers. I cant even remember the last set that they appeared in, and they look so good. It is nice getting 501st, 212th, 187th, etc, but my army looks weird without a single undesignated trooper

    I love that they’ve basically expanded the variety and detail after the last battle pack. I am hoping this means they might end up doing a similar pack for the orange 212th which will help make those figures more available. Even better, more legions down the road, including perhaps some phase 1 clones? Maybe even with Clone Wars style variety in their paint jobs? I can wish

  • @niharsheth

    I like the way the legs on the cannon are done. That's a lot of articulation for something that's mostly stationary and the clear support brick underneath is a smart addition.

  • @rajingcajun488
    @rajingcajun488 Před rokem +42

    I actually think the av7 cannon is a neat choice is the build since the figures included could also work pretty well as an artillery/tank destroyer unit. Two heavies to operate the cannon plus a sharpshooter as a spotter and an officer to lead the whole thing. I think that makes for a nice play pattern for the majority of kids who just get one or two

  • @empatheticrambo4890
    @empatheticrambo4890 Před rokem +44

    I think the previous battle pack being all regular troopers does mean it’s good as is in this ONE case, but the internet Lego Star Wars community is contrarian and super hard to please these days...
    Edit: I’ve stopped and thought about this more. You’re absolutely right, it should have had regular troops, at least one. Some kids and fans are new and don’t have the old ones, and aftermarket prices are crazy

  • @GlorifiedShed
    @GlorifiedShed Před rokem +53

    The Officer isn't too massable, but 3 of the 4 are, so not a bad selection of troops. Definitely not as bad as having 2 named jedi figures in a battle pack, although I do see where you're coming from. Perhaps 2 normal, 1 heavy and 1 specialist in this would be better with a sergeant in a different set, but definitely going to pick up a couple of these. The main issue by far is the lack of waist cape on the sergeant. I really dislike that LEGO doesn't make those any more.

    The biggest problem I have with this is the fact that the micro binocular’s are not printed
    It just looks a bit plain compared to the rest of the figures.
    I don’t know if it’s technically possible for LEGO but I think it should be since the area is pretty flat as far as I can tell.
    I’ve also Seen some people comment that the rangefinder sits too high on the helmet and is a bit too loose.
    The first part I can definitely understand. Haven’t decided for myself where is stand on the issue though
    The second part I can’t confirm since I don’t own the set, but judging from the video could be a problem.

    I consider heavy troopers to be like regular troopers. I'm not a star wars expert by any means, but isnt a heavy like a slightly more buff ver than a reg? They're still a massable guy.
    You know what'd be fun though. If they had like a pack that's 3 regs/heavies, and then a mystery figure. Like a random officer or a special dude or something

    Lego SW fans are fickle, but they’re probably right about this one getting a pass for featuring non-standard troops since it’s released so close to the “bloated” battlepack as you call it. Marketing wise, it makes sense why the old one is off the market now, but its absence is the only meaningful exception to this pass Lego SW fans en mass are giving this one.

    The helmet holes not matching the previous set many people mass purchased is a bit annoying and the accessories are quite old and could do with updates to get them in line with the new macrobinocular piece. Also no kama for the officer is a real shame. Otherwise these are good figures and the value seems fairly on point.

  • @fxpijsfxpijs6598
    @fxpijsfxpijs6598 Před rokem +1

    There are two kinds of trooper collectors as far as I've generally see it:
    1. Super collectors who bought A LOT of the previous 501st set, they already have 50 rows of clone troopers on a large baseplate collecting dust and they want something new.
    2. Casual collectors who maybe bought one 501st set and still want an additional trooper or two thus don't agree with the figure selection of only specialized troopers.
    Obviously both can't be satisfied at the same time. But this set is flawed for many other reasons:
    - The cannon is boring, and I feel should have been blue to match the 501st color scheme instead of generic republic color scheme (like the walker and speeder from the 2021 set did).
    - The price is too rough seeing as the 501st helmet and legs are re-used, the clone driver helmet print from the AT-TE is re-used with different color (just swapped tan with blue, should be a relatively easy swap in terms of production) and the 501st trooper legs are re-used for 3 figures. Those troopers shouldn't be as expensive to produce as LEGO would like us to believe they were.
    - Again the new helmet bothers me. I understand the decision (and let's be honest, the problem isn't that they added the holes now, the real issue was that they didn't have holes in the original 2013 mold. This grave was dug 10 years ago probably by different employees) but still they should have still made the investment and modify the mold, seeing as the clone trooper helmets are probably here to stay for another 10 years.
    - A battle droid should have been included. Just a single one would have been fine. I don't care for the "battle pack format" of "either good guys or bad guys but not both". This inclusion could have considerably improved my view of this set since I would get a feeling that at least they try to sweeten the deal (if not in terms of quality, at least in terms of quantity).

  • @calipergd
    @calipergd Před rokem

    My solution for the cloth pauldrons if lego REALLY doesn't want to make them is having a print all around the minifig and a plastic one. So if you want to sit them down you can take off the plastic bit.

    I think this is a nice battle pack, but I don't think the figures are nice enough to justify the price. At $20, these figures should have better color matching in the prints and that kama should be a physical piece of some sort.

    I don't do massive army building but I have three of the 501st Legion sets and I am happy to get some different types of units this time. I'll buy less of these than the regular troopers but I really didn't need ten of them anyways. The two 501st sets do almost feel swapped around though. Like the easily repeatable and rebuyable army building 501st Legion should have been a battle pack and these guys could have been in a set with the larger builds since like you said, battle packs should have the more general purpose troopers. But hey at least there are no named units here! Also the two side connector things look a little weird when you are purposely looking at them but I don't really notice most of the time. @KenTails Před rokem +1

    Got this set recently, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
    Figs are pretty cool, the variety in blasters are very nice, new Phase II helmet + the macro binocular accesory are neat, and I really like the mini-AV7 build. It's minituarized, but it doesn't feel like a 'half scale thing' next to minifigs. The shaping itself seems fairly accurate to the source material, and the build itself & the techniques used feel/are modern and it's decently sturdy. Big improvement over the mini-AV7 like cannon from 2012 Elite Clone battlepack (one with ARC trooper & Commando Droids). I can totally see it as a smaller anti-vehicle cannon, maybe as a smaller member of AV family of cannons, and I'd say it's a nice Star Wars equivalent of real life anti-tank guns in terms of scale.
    All in all, it occupies a similar space in my mind as the patrol speeder from the Solo/Imperial Patrol BP, and (for people like me) I think it could be almost as much draw as the figs themselves.
    Speaking of figs... kama print feels rather pathetic, to be honest. Couldn't even tell what it was supposed to be right away when I built the figs myself.
    And, oh man, the visor print... it's still too narrow in width, and that's a big shame. They have the right width in the package art rendar, and that made me even more dissapointed. Somehow, I don't feel like they're fixing this for a while.

At least these are not the unarmored officers, or even worse, named characters, or even Jedi like that battle pack with Ki-Adi Mundi and Barriss Offee, so I won't complain too much. Heavies I guess should still be somewhat common.

    I'm not as annoyed about this set as some other people are, but the printed kama on the officer is a really poor effort on behalf of Lego. I mean, we had entire plastic pieces for the kamas in the late 2000s, then we got awesome cloth pieces in the 2010s, and now we've just reverted to the way Lego made their clones almost 20 years ago, by printing that stuff on, and it doesn't even look good.
    Makes me wonder whether a Phase II Captain Rex figure would even be anywhere near as good as the 2013 one.

    I think a good way to do battle packs would be 3 generic troops plus 1 random specialist unit (Officer, heavy, speacialist, jetpack) as long as the pool is limited (no more than 4) it should be easy enough for most to get all the units they want, and it would organically add variety as you army build. Then they could release different legions each year while still providing variety. If "blind" boxes are too unfair, they could have boxes printed with the included figure, but all share a common UPC.

    I absolutely love this set, big fan of battlefront 2 and am surprised we got a clone battlepack based of it.. after all these years..
    Love the new piece for the specialist and that one is my favorite in the battlepack and in the game, both in its skins and gameplay.
    But for army building purposes this set is fantastic too, these give some absolutely fantastic variety to any 501st army or squad, plus you can always swap around some torsos helmets and attachments to have even more different 501st clones.
    Hopefully we get more battlepacks based on bf2, ones id like to see most would be an arc trooper, shoretrooper, 327th, droid and a rebel battle pack.
    There is 4 different arc skins in the game would be perfect. Same situation as this 501st counts for the shore and 327th too, 327th being my personal favorite clone legion. The droids have a lot of vareity in game and for the rebels they have a lot of aliens they could do, sullustan being the main standout for me

    Maybe it's a bit unreasonable to ask but I just wish Lego would have some consistency between clone prints. Got ~40 2015 clones and the visor placement and torso prints of these recent clones don't really feel better or improved, just different and noticable. Would be so sick to have a million different legions, all with the same basic designs. Great review as always though Jang, keep up the good work 👍👍

    I like the battle pack but a normal with hole 501 trooper would be nicer since 75280 retired like a month. If you want new helmet(with hole) you only get one in this set.

    Strongly disagree with the people saying this pack should be all specialists. At minimum I don’t understand the point of two heavies per pack.
    At least they aren’t officers, but this always brings me back to the days when I actually was massing clones and I ended up with a mountain of 212th bomb squad troopers I’ll never use in a million years just because I wanted ARF troopers and regular clones.

    I don't understand why Lego didn't simply move the lower helmet bump up a bit to combine both bumps into one. It would look a lot better.

    My first LEGO set was 7655, and while this has no speeder, I would have had a BLAST as a 7 year old with this just as much as I did with 7655. It is 20 bucks, but for kids this is great, and for us adults it looks GREAT on my shelf along side the rest of my clones :)

    I think people are overreacting about these new helmets. It looks ok, but it's not horrible. And we finally get a Commander Cody last year and all people can do is complain about the helmet they made to make this Minifigure a reality.

  • @Frolaire
    @Frolaire Před rokem +1

    My only complaint about this kit is the printed Kama on the commander doesn't look as good as it does on say the Snowtroopers. Otherwise I'm happy to have my small 501st Clone army to have a bit of Variety and appreciate the Macrobinocular piece as I promptly slapped the extra on a 212th.

    If I was buying all the star wars sets just casually, not looking for figs for a moc specifically. I would sill want most sets to come with standard troops. That way when all the sets are combined you have a good mass of what looks like an army, rather than a mash of verity ranks.

    I just wish we got more than one battle pack a year now. And more than one microfighter a year.
    At least it's a PT era set. Those are also gettng rarer...

    Isnt it ironic how the first 501st set had 2 oversized, small vehicles and the second 501st set had an undersized cannon? They shouldve done a regular sized AV Canon with the other troops cuz they had so many pcs in that set and then a small scaled down barc speeder or an at rt similar to the side build in the turbo tank for this set to be more size accurate

    I don't see much talk about the helmet prints, they still have that weird curvature that made the whole controversy for the 212th helmets. Less noticeable here, but it still looks goofy to me.

    I think people are okay with the specialists because we just got the "not battlepack" that had regular troopers, and these specialists are still massable.

    Lack of waist capes is bad. Placement of helmet holes is bad. Use of the inaccurate 2009 visor piece is bad. Still gonna buy a ton of them though.

    This set is nice complement to the last one but on its own 2 heavy figs is a weird choice. I wish they put a regular trooper instead to represent the assalt class so this pack on its own would represent all 4 basic classes. And the last pack has been discontinued so it limits how people can get a reg 501st fig. I feel like we went 1 step back compared to the hoth battle pack

    I wish they’d stop giving clones red blaster bolts on the boxart, as well as stop giving their vehicles red spring loaded projectiles… it’s like giving episode 6 Luke a blue lightsaber

  • @EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho

    Figures look nice, cannon’s nice, but $20 is still way too much for a battle pack and I want to know why things have changed so quickly Inflation? Disney license? Do the amount of minifigs dictate the price of sets now? It’s so weird to me that even THREE years ago, these were $15 and had about the same amount of content.
