Definitely not uncalled for. It’s a good suggestion as my forearm was burning by the end of all the takes. In the beginning, I did a couple takes with that technique but it sounded a little too even and clean for my liking. In the studio recording, the second hit is quieter which leads me to believe the doubles were recorded with one hand. I felt like I could get a more accurate feel to the studio recording if I used one hand doubles. Since people are guessing based only on the drums, I’m trying to be as accurate as possible to the drums of the songs they’re supposed to guess. If it were a cover, I would have totally used two hands for the doubles as well as switched up the repetitive beat with fills and some minor variation in the groove. However, now that I think of it, I could have just hit quieter with the second hand than the first… hmmmm. Well, it is what it is. I suffered for the groove and it was worth it!
Josh usually uses a mix of open hand playing (left hand on hi hat) and standard cross over playing, so you can play this as k L(hh) R(s)L(s) R(hh) K L(hh) K K+R(hh)+L(s) Or K+L(hh)+R(s) if that's easier for you! Also I recommend watching his druming, especially through the Vessel and Blurryface eras! A lot of open hand stuff that's really cool!
@@taico5764 Josh’s drumming style is so interesting. I’ve practiced open handed playing before but not for a very long time. Maybe I’ll give it a shot with a future song if the song the song calls for it.
Yes! I was hoping someone would get it. I thought it would be super obscure. Apparently it’s not as obscure as I thought. Apparently it wasn’t even a challenge. Good on ya!
@@DrumsAreFun988 well it’s not hard for me since i know every song off my heart. TØP is my fav band and so i learned every song on drums. the first full song i learned on drums was actually heavydirtysoul back in 2015
@@necreiP I wish I had known them for that long. I hopped on the Bandito train around Trench. I was one of those suckers who didn’t like stuff that was super popular, as if that’s cool or made me unique in any way. I just thought they were another overhyped band. Turns out, they’re a well of creative expression and I was missing out. It also turns out that it’s ok to like things that other people like. I was separating myself from human connection by dogging on things that people liked just because they liked them. There’s no worse fan base to miss out on than TØP’s. So much passion, positivity, and loyalty.
@@DrumsAreFun988 100% i agree. for me, my sister showed me TØP just before blurry face came out. we’d play a game in the car where i’d play a random song on her phone and she’d have to guess it. car radio and guns for hands are my sister and i’s “songs”. ever since 2014 i’ve listened to them. i regret not going to the bandito tour but at least i went to the icy tour and i’m going to clancy
@@necreiP Before I dove into their discography, I would put car radio on repeat. I went to the Scaled and Icy tour in Dallas with my sister in law. We made these dope tie dye shirts with calligraphic lettering and a drawing of Ned popping out of the shirt pocket. We sat up in the nosebleeds. TØP is the only band that makes the Nosebleeds worth it. It had been my goal for a long time to see trees live. It did not disappoint. I don’t think I’ll be able to go to the Clancy tour, as much as I’d love to. I know it’s gonna be incredible though.
ik this is totally uncalled for but if you wanted to make this easier to play, josh dun plays the double snare with two hands! Sounding good :)
