- Lake chad - How Africa plans to save the shrinking mega lake chad from climate change. Since the recurring droughts began in the early 1970s, the size of the lake chad has dwindled by over 90%, particularly in the last 60 years. Back in 1963, the lake's surface size was 26,000 square kilometers, yet, it presently stands at less than 1,500 square kilometers. This can be attributed to chronic drought and desertification, which have triggered diminished inflows into the lake chad basin. Other factors attributed to the dramatic shrinking is the result of poor human management, improperly designed and used dams and irresponsible irrigation. Our video today, will take a look into the lake chad basin crisis, and how the Lake Chad replenishment project or how the $50 billion transaqua project lake chad, intend to revive the shrinking lake.

The company I work at (a small Canadian company) is currently expanding to multiple countries in Africa, The people we talk with are very hopeful for their countries and the continent, they talk of Africa with such passion!
I strongly believe in the prestigious future of Africa! The road will not be easy, but the destination will be worth it!
Giga chad be like
I really hope they figure something out fast! It’s obviously an extremely important body of water! It’s so frustrating how corrupt public officials can absolutely derail such extraordinary important project for so many people.. ❤️ from 🇺🇸🙏🏻🌊🌧💦

Rich counties spend trillions of dollars in war, weapons but when it comes to climate change and greening the desert they act like poor.
Capitalism only cares for the 💲!
Socialism is the only system that's ever attempted to help the 3rd world.

I have a big sympathy for my African friends! I hope we - Africa and Europe - will build great and wealthy future. I am sceptical towards China and its totalitarian regime.
Oh stop! Focus on your European brother France still trying to crush African countries
Western interference is far worse for Africa than China or Russia, history has proven so. the best way forward is for us to work together at the individual level, but at the political level Africa and Europe need a long break from each other.
France does bring 1001 hurdles, whereas China's overall lack of love is only one hurdle, true. Both are cut throat any way smh;)
More like Africa needs a divorce from Europe. It was a highly dysfunctional and abusive union esp France and it's ex colonies Smh
They should continually plant million trees a year around the lake, how their ancestors use to do to prevent drought
I'm Nigerian and my geography teacher was talking about this a week ago.
Really? Where in Nigeria?
rip lake Chad
will probably end up like the Aral Sea
It is LONG overdue that Africa begins to reach her potential. This will be her biggest challenge ever-that of bringing her people together for their own benefit and prosperity: and breaking free of the tentacles & vortexes of "The West" attempting to control & extract resources.
The diversion from Congo river to lake Chad is desirable as 8 Countries citizens would benefit from irrigation and hydroelectric dams.Congo should considerate of other brothers.
DR Congo must agree on the proposal to divert the river Congo into lake Chad. This will save the livelihood of millions of people. They shouldn't block it, if it has been proven to be feasible and no impact to their country.
lake nile is also ready.... those who occupy lake chad are luo same tribe as lake Victoria tribes
@@murnyang8381 interesting information. Never knew that... Thanks for sharing the insightful information. Whats the name of the tribe, if I may ask?

@@murnyang8381 never knew... Thanks 🙏👍
@@murnyang8381 Nile River already extremely pressured, the Congo basin is abundant, mainly in the flood season.
Let’s see ………..man has been reducing the size of Lake Chad for 7 MILLION YEARS ! Someone buried a massive lake underneath Libya too.
Pocket change for Bill Gates. Talk about saving lives in Africa.
Lake micro chad
To quote Betty White; Ubangi ? You betcha !!
Ok i cant be the only person to think this i get that and maybe the gains outweigh the risks, but the congo river is 1 bio-system and the lake is another, so there's going to be consequences no human can foresee.
Climate change? Lmao. The lake has shrunk from 7000 years ago. It was bigger than the Great Lakes. It was way bigger thousands of years ago.
How big is the artesian basin containing the lakeannd how much is drained into the Libyan (man made river)?
Must have happened due to all that human industry... 1000 years ago... I has da dumb
Chad is giga Chad
2 words Nestle Waters or Climate Change
I hope this works but iam skeptical
If money is available, it can be done. There's no complex engineering here. The idea started from 1930's and currently technology makes it even easier. With that said, it's all about money. Of course the DR Congo must agree as well, which is also a big hurdle to resolve.
@@biologic9081 I imagine that the mature plan would have a component that benefits the DRC- perhaps a commitment to investing in the Grand Inga Dam project.
Me irl
Africas aral sea
The craziest thing about this region is its ppl the Chadic ppl are somehow apart of the R1b haplogroup making them, dark skinned Africans, distant 13k years ago, relatives of western Eurasians that now moved to wester Europe West of the Elbe river in Germany ahah

To be honest this sounds like colonial powers using the place as a playground to experiment with geo-engineering tech.

This Is Africa, its not gonna happen
he forgot about that since europe sends plastic throe aid and Africans just dumps it.
@@Rihardololz yeah europeans should instead send no aid, or aid without packaging, right?
