@@Bucking_Fastard nice catch
Maybe it’s because I’m Scottish and working class but we had spam a fair bit as kids. Fried it’s bloody delicious. I’m with the Hawaiians on this one !
I'm Australian, (working class) and as a child my older brother and I would make honestly quite tasty 'spamburgers' when we were allowed control of the kitchen. Bread slices, nicely fried Spam slices, lettuce, cheese, tinned beetroot.. trust me they were nice. I think the mention of class is important, as most working class families actually didn't have time to head down to the friendly butcher for the nicest cut of meat, they had to make do with what was in the pantry from that week's shopping run.
I like Spam, but bacon grill is the bomb
My only problem with this recipe is the beans. I dislike most types of beans. And that toast is fine.
@EdinMike Middle Englander here and we had a lot in the 70's. I never liked it cold as I didn't care for the jelly around the edges but grilled was excellent. Fried too if you like fried food.
The only thing that puts me off the above recipe is the white bread as I don't like it. Brown/wholemeal for me.
Working class American, my dad was a huge fan of the Spam and that old American classic, fried bologna. I found out later from Bad Santa that if you put it on bread and cover it with salsa, it's a tostada.

I think I saw the skit in re-runs in the 1970s (I was born in 1967; too late to see MP when it was originally on TV) as well as from LPs that my oldest brother owned ("Matching Tie and Handkerchief" and others).
