    The controls of the Mesa Boogie are interactive, meaning turning the dial on knob affects the other knobs. Adding gain in a Mesa Boogie also adds base so you have to turn the bass control down and the high control up.

    • @Fitzgerd

      Even with the treble up and the bass down, there’s still a ton of bass on tap 😅. Sounds great playing by yourself but still find I need to remove some 100 and 200hz for a mix situation 😁

    Yeaaaaaah! Congrats Nicks! I know how you feel when you played the first time in your tremoverb, so happy for you!
    I have some tips for you. 1) Never sell it. You will regret. 2) Change for EL34 tubes and 12ax7 for preamp. My old mesa turn into a beast after that. 3) For get the Mike tone when he plays live, I used the Digitech Tone Drive always on. The clean channel become a little dirty and the red channel get more heavy and definition (the tone drive cut some bass frequency).
    I recorded some morning view songs before I sold my tremoveb (so sad), using the speaker out and IR too. It sounds really amazing! Let me know if I can help you ok?

      @Fitzgerd  Před rokem +1

      I’m really impressed with it - can go from sparkling cleans to all out gain machine! Really versatile amp. Definitely find an eq pedal is a big help to tame the low end - mine is just before the amp and you can change the sound even more by putting it in the effects loop if needed. It also works really well with a tube screamer. The one thing I find is the amp is great for chords and riffs but a bit lacking for lead playing so the tube screamer helps tame the lows, add some high mids and makes the amp “sing” a bit more 😁. If you do pick one up, I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! 😊👍🏻

    Oh man you've gone and done it. This thing sounds absolutely massive... crazy how it really is instant incubus sound! Planning on making any Patreon related videos with this amp? I love to peep settings that others are using. I've got the little Mesa Rectoverb 25 head and cab myself and while plugging straight in its like 85% there (that slightly scooped fizzy rectifier sound is awesome) after some tweaks you can really get it to almost clone the tone regardless of what guitar you're using. I've also found that the EQ controls on the front of the Mesa amps are really responsive and allow you to get rid of the EQ pedal with a bit of fiddling.

    Really great sounds! Some of the best Tremoverb stuff I've heard on CZcams! Curious to know where you had the gain set for the clean part around 7:34. I bought one of these recently, but I think the LDRs have failed unfortunately, as I get too much gain on the clean setting, and barely any change when changing to vintage high gain. I noticed it's still got a little bit of bite to it there, and you mentioned the pickups being reasonably low output, so it would be really cool to know what your settings were.

    • @Fitzgerd
      @Fitzgerd  Před rokem +1

      Hey Josh and thank you! Sorry to hear you may have LDR issues - read that’s a common problem with these amps 😖. The gain for the clean stuff was probably 12 o’clock is and the same for the vintage high gain as well. I can get a nice clean with the gain about 10 o’clock with my Ibanez and the master about 1-2 o’clock. Hope that helps?

    • @joshkilinc1436
      @joshkilinc1436 Před rokem

      @@Fitzgerd Definitely sounds like mine is misbehaving then! Also that master is crazy high! Are you using the effects loop active master as well? You can push a huge amount of extra volume and gain by cranking the settings for the effects loop on the back!

    • @Fitzgerd

  • @UncleBensRice
    @UncleBensRice Před rokem +1

    4:30 The Rectifier isn't an overly tight amplifier so I'd suggest trying to run the gain as low as possible. The sweetspot is at around 1 o'clock, past that these amps start to become really bloated (people tend to run the gain way too high on these amps). One thing I find is that the guitar also plays a big role in how thight these amps can get. I own a Ibanez RG550 and even with an eq cutting all the low end before my Triple Rec, I can't get it to sound that great. My Gibson LP on the other hand doesn't require any form of boost to sound tight.
    And definitely try out that channel cloning switch in the back. The name is kinda misleading because both channels aren't exactly the same and you can't really clone one channel to become exactly like the other. So "cloning" one channels mode to be like the other channel gives you a slightly different sound.
    6:16 One trick to take some of the fizz and harshness out of the red modern channel is to set the presence much lower than you would on most other amps. Around 9 o'clock is where I like set presence on my amp.

    • @Fitzgerd
      @Fitzgerd  Před rokem +1

      That is really helpful and interesting, thank you! I have read similar things and I think I had the gain around 1ish for this video. Interesting about your Ibanez too - what pickups does your Les Paul have?
      I’m intrigued by the channel cloning but haven’t messed about with it yet 👍🏻
      The presence definitely changes the character a whole lot and absolutely sounds better lower to my ears 😁👍🏻

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice Před rokem

      @@Fitzgerd Hey no problem. The Gibson has the stock humbucker set, which are the 490R and 498T. The RG has the V7, S1 and V8 standard Ibanez pickups in it.
      The channel cloning is a bit strange but you can download the manual for the amp and this should clarify how everything works.
      There are some weird modes like for instance when you clone red to vintage both of the presence controls are active.
      In red modern the presence pot works a bit differently compared to most other amps. This has to to with the modern mode, which changes the behaviour of the poweramp in a drastic way. In modern mode the poweramp starts to interact heavily with the speaker, it's kinda like having both presence and depth cranked on a regular amp.

    • @Fitzgerd
      @Fitzgerd  Před rokem

      Interesting! I have had a read through of the manual but must admit, I glossed over the channel cloning part as it seemed so strange to me 😆. I’ll definitely have to play about and see what happens 😁👍🏻

    • @UncleBensRice
      @UncleBensRice Před rokem

      @@Fitzgerd The cloning feature is definitely worth trying out. The old Trem-O-Verbs are even a bit more flexible than the 3 channel models, because the vintage and modern poweramp style can be selected independently from the gain modes on the front panel.
      I actually prefer the orange channel set to modern on my 3ch. Triple over the red channel in modern mode.
      The orange channel on the old 3ch. is the same as having orange set to modern on the old 2 channel heads.
      The only Rectifier where every mode is truly the same regardless of the selected channel is the Multiwatt version which I also own, but honestly I much prefer the sound of the older Rectifier heads over the newer MW heads.
      At some point I had an EMG het set in that RG550 and even than it sounded not that much better or even tighter than with the regular stock pickups.

    I have gone through a few of your videos and I am not seeing anything that lines up with how he would have used the DOD 250 preamp / overdrive with his rectifier. Do you find you are able to get all the Morning View tones with just the various amp modes?

    • @Fitzgerd
      @Fitzgerd  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I believe Mike added overdrives to his amps during the crow tour. That seems to be the case in his rig now as well but he only uses an overdrive on the clean channel of the tremoverb to add some grit when he wants to. For morning view tones, his PRS at the time played a huge factor in the sound as he could blend in a piezo pickup with the magnetic pickups and the big archtop he played sounds so unique anyway! Add the tremoverb to that and certain microphones to record the sound and boom, you have morning view tones - no extra overdrive pedal needed 😁

  • @tl0v3r1
    @tl0v3r1 Před rokem +1

    Amazing amp you got there, i had a Rev G dual rectifier (it's basically the same minus some features) a few years back when i was in a incubus cover band. It sounded glorious live. Back in those days one guy who came to our show asked if i was interested in a Archtop Prs (like the og Mike had, with out the piezo), he asked me roughly 3000 euros for the guitar. It seemed silly money for a guitar back then, plus i wouldn’t be comfortable to take something like that live. But guess what? Now they cost almost double that amount ! If i knew what i know today i would have bought that guitar.
    My favorite tones from Mike are from the morning view era. And those guitars (spruce top, mahogany back) are a crucial part of that sound, even more than the amp imo.

    This is a well known clip, the guy is even playing trough an old boutique amp that as el84 tubes (couldn't be more different than the mesa), and the tone is uncanny.
    And recently i found this dude:
    czcams.com/video/MBibM1IcJ1A/video.html
    He's not even using an amp! Just some digital unit, and he really nailed the tone! It's those guitars I tell you! Those old Prs are magical! They have an amazing woody tone.
    You have to get a Prs hollwobody one day, but stay away from these new SE models. Those are a waste of money, rather poor replicas of the real thing.
    Anyway, keep doing these amazing videos! I love to see till this day guitar players being inspired by the great Mike Einziger. He is my Jimi Hendrix!

      Thanks so much! Ah man, there’s always “the one that got away!” I would love one of the late 90s to early 2000s hollowbodies, they are just so expensive - I may have a video coming up about the newer se hollowbody though…😁. Mike is the reason I got into guitar as a kid so to make these videos and have people respond so positively is just the loveliest thing. Thanks so much for watching 😊👍🏻

    what was the impulse response you were using? have a multiwatt rectifier and trying to dial in some morning view tones!

      I actually messed up with this video and I was using the default impulse that comes with the IR Loader Pluse by Lancaster Audio! I can highly recommend the tone core bundle by OwnHammer. This has 2 variations of Vintage 30 but they are from a 4x12 closed back Mesa cab instead of the 2x12 open back that the Tremoverb has. I have a hunch that they may have used an Sm7b which is included in the tone core bundle too. Give that a try and see how you get on - may need to remove some 100-200hz as it will be a bit on the muddy side with the 4x12. Hope that helps 😁👍🏻

    Man, i really don't know how you can made this amp sounds so bad... It's an amazing amp... I think it's because you listen to Incubus.

      I agree, it is an amazing amp and as I’m trying to get as close as possible to early incubus tones - it sounds pretty great to me.
