- I recently picked up this Studiomaster studio 4 on UK ebay, listed as spares or repairs. I was interested in this four track cassette recorder for two reasons. Firts of all its the little brother of my 18-8-2 mixer fromt he same manufacturer, which I'm intending to be the center of my hybrid digital and analog tape home studio... I do a whistle-stop tour of this mixer and how it figyred in my home studio alter in the video. Seocndly it just seems like its got a bit of a dream list of features - like a tascam 246 with xlr inputs and phantom power. Its not all good though - very ehavy, all input socket on the back, no dedicated master meters and just one tape speed. Anyway, expect more repair and creative videos featuring this unit in future.

what a beast!
Nuff respec for the King Tubby menshan.
Thanks. More power to your elbow.
I have no memory of what the context is for this comment, but thank you too
@@Tetrakan I suppose I meant that you should just carry on making your videos.
I see. I shall! Thanks for watching!
Cool. I'm not too familiar with these. Can't wait to hear it in action. ✌️😎
That’s a BEAST!!!
Hi Tetrakan, Ive just picked up a Studio 4 myself, really looking forward to your next video on the subject. Its been over a decade since i used a 4 track so your other videos have been invaluble so far. My machine has some signs of life but needs help! The tape mech appears to work fine but i've no signal, just a little cross talk if i crank the monitor out on No.3 when playing a pre recorded tape. I'm going to try a deep clean first, servisol and iso usually works wonders! The xlr connections have turned black so im praying its just years of dirt and corrosion, the machine is mint otherwise!
Great vid mate. Looking forward to hearing more on this. Managed to bag one myself and I’m hoping it’s in good knick.
Did you ever find any schematics or user manuals for the studio master studio 4?
Parametric low end, veeeeery nice!
Fantastic gear there in the studio room! I have a 34b. Really want a nice 2 channel mix down reel to reel.
Thank you. My reel to reel tape decks are decorative for the time being - they mock me for my procrastination every time I enter the room.
@@Tetrakan Yes, I do know that feeling! I have a TEAC 8-80 that needs some work and it reminds me every time I see it 😂
Thanks for sharing! I would like to ask you about the mics preamp? How is their sound? A friend of mine has a Series II and we really enjoy with that very organic fat analog sound. Does this model have anything like that? All the best
Thassalotta channel routing buttons! 😲
And they are push-push, which means I'm almost guaranteed to unintentionally record duplicates of stuff if/when I get this working!
How are you getting the Studio 4 repairs? There’s currently one for sale on eBay at the moment and although I really don’t need another 4 track it looks rather cool, and a well specified beast of a unit!
Love the look of the Studiomaster Studio 4, very cool!
Yes, I had a Studiomaster Studio-4 back in the '80's. It was one of the best of that era. It's tape speed was double that of a normal Cassette machine, so 3-3/4 IPS. I believe the Tape Eject Switch may have been electromechanical, so may have required Power on to open, but I may be misremembering. Either way the Tape Door's motion was very smooth, possibly with some kind of mechanical damper to slow it down. Hope that helps..many fond memories on those, sorry I had to part with it.
it'd be lovely to have the space and money to hang on to every bit of gear we bought, but life gets in the way, innit? Thanks for watching!
Hi, do you have a users manual for your Studiomaster 16 8 2?
hi that was on uk ebay i was a watcher i keep away from any makes i can't find any plans on them
i will work on some hard to fix units reel - reel tascam 30 line i like all luck it can be
Yeah I’m wary of units where parts etc could be a problem ….but found this one too tempting!
Hi I’ve a studiomaster 16 4 2 1981 but my bus 1/2 and master faders not working any idea would it be the faders that needs changing or some bad caps ect?
Could be either, best thing would to try to identify the buffer opamps and audio caps and use an audio probe to figure out where the signal stops, replace components a s appropriate. Check the videos in my electrical troubleshooting playlist if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
Thank you for your reply, love this channel ❤
hi i see you have 30 line decks beware in the power pcb
i had to jazz the pcb Q812 Q11 C945 a round the trans here you got to be carefull
and the Q05 Q808 all to do with the 15- 15+ to do with the audio card
you need to check all the volt rails are right there's alot of work
watch out for fine breaks in the main mum pcb they are there long the sides
Peace. No patchbay?
Single unit tascam, It’s on the rack mount under the computer monitor, I mention it!
