    Mk. II. The Mk. V in War Thunder are fitted with pretty large anti-sand air filters, so that's one way you can tell them apart.

    Good dogfight but you were lucky he was a bad shot lol. He missed so many opportunities to blow you out of the sky. I hope War Thunder adds a fighter school to the game at some point as there are too many people that have no idea how to fly energy fighters.

      +welshpete12
      Hi welshpete.
      Not sure if you ever found your answer, but the G-turns in some of these manoeuvres would have exceeded 5G. The Spitfire was capable of pulling 6.2G in turns but pilots would surely black out during such stunts so that's why skill and awareness replaced taking the aeroplane to its capable limits. The plane might managebut the pilots physiology and biology would not cope.
      Best regards.
      Craig

    • @welshpete12
      @welshpete12 Před 7 lety +2

      Hi PC Ash ,No I did not so thank you for your reply . Pulling 5 G plus time after time would be punishing ! If you think about it a pilot would need to be looking over his shoulder . Checking if an enemy had got on his 6 . The strain on the human body doing that, time after time. And day after day as in the Battle of Britain would have been tremendous. I used to pull 4 G's on occasion, but I never did looking back over my shoulder !

    • @as680783
      @as680783 Před 7 lety +2

      +welshpete12
      Yeah it's quite amazing to consider that these pilots would need to be continually scouting the skies whether attacking, evading, or doing general recon of their locality. It's truly incredible - as you rightly say - to think about the punishment and stress gravity would place on these guys (friend or foe).
      When you say you pulled 4G's without looking over your shoulder was that in real life or in WT or DCS?
      In 1985 at the tender age of 15 I was in the Air Cadets. I flew in the front of RAF DH Chipmunk trainers many times and I think I pulled about 4.5 G in some stunts like loops and Immelman's etc. I could never imagine having to keep orientated for enemies in battle environments.
      These guys were really the dog's nads.
      All the best.
      Craig

    Question. :)
    Is it a bad habit to cut throttle while doing any sort of turning?

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 10 lety +1

      Depends on the situation. If you absolutely have to out-turn someone or force an overshoot, don't hesitate to cut throttle. However, if you have all the advantages already (let's say you're above him), don't bother cutting throttle. Maintain as much of your energy as possible while forcing him to bleed his by evading you.

    Do you throttle back when doing a rolling scissors with the purpose of getting on his tail?

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 8 lety

      Only if Im going too fast to maneuver. The point of a rolling scissors is to outlast your opponent's energy through smart and smooth maneuvers. If I'm desperate and think I might lose the rolling scissors, I might throttle down just to force an overshoot and get away

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 10 lety

      If I'm in free cam mode, I have to use the keyboard. If I'm just using the track target camera, I can use either, but I usually use the keyboard still. I only really use the mouse for making small adjustments with the yaw in aiming shots.

    • @8line8
      @8line8 Před 10 lety

      Thx for your reply, I tought you might use the mouse because the keyboard output responds in max movement value, so you lose energy and such.

    @therealmaxspeedster Před 9 lety

    Hi Walrus, intense video, subbed because of it and I am checking out the others now in an attempt to learn how to play this game well enough to maybe not be on fire within 2 to 3 minutes into every match lol (to be fair to me though my highest rated plane is a Buffalo). After watching this several times there is one thing I've gotta gotta know: At the end did you see your opponent closing quickly and chop throttle to force the fatal (for them) overshoot? Or did he/she forget about physics and accidentally drive right by you in their rush to finish you off?

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 9 lety +1

      Once I saw him getting that close to me, I chopped my throttle and put out my flaps to slow down quickly and get him to overshoot. As I mention in the video, it wouldn't have been a problem for him if he had performed a high yo yo instead of going under and in front of me. Overall, what I did was a very risky move, and it working out like it did in this video relies entirely on your opponent making a mistake (but I thought i was dead anyway, so I was willing to give it a try).

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 10 lety

      I'm almost always at 100% or WEP, unless I really need to force an overshoot. In that case, I'll cut my throttle completely as I start a barrel roll. As I go over the top of the barrel roll, I'll then usually resume full throttle. Take 1:16 for example.

    • @SinisterMD
      @SinisterMD Před 10 lety

      CrouchingWalrus Thanks, I appreciate it. Without the throttle displayed I am always curious about that. Also, do you find that deploying combat flaps during maneuvers of any help or does it just bleed off speed/energy unnecessarily?

    As a person who flies spitfires you've made this look even harder than it should have been. There was no need to remove your self from the rolling scissors what so ever. Those that initiate a turn fight initiate a match to the death and that mean the first one to bail out is dead. However this fight continued for far to long because both of these guys are not what I would call good pilots. Thus this video is considerably misleading.
    First rule in combat when you initiate a turn fight may sound counter productive but it's true to the point: “Always keep your lift vector facing the enemy”. Yes that canopy! Using “A” and “D” to maintain the direction and keep on pulling back towards them. Then it's down to the planes performance that wins fight. His energy would have been used against him because of your ability to slow down faster thus causing the enemy to overshoot.
    This video displays a ton, loads of mistakes and bad aim. You just got lucky with the end result.

    Wow, if this was not set up, then congrats, its was pretty exciting :) But I had the feeling you made it out to be more then it is. I mean, I get an average of about 7 kills per match, and a lot of that is dogfighting, and a lot of the time, I just go with my gut, dont think about ok, I need to do a scissor roll now, and then a normal roll, just go with the flow, you know what I mean?

    • @Nikolai5147
      @Nikolai5147  Před 9 lety +1

      Antypas Andreas I know what you mean. Most of what I did in this video was done without a lot of thought. However, that's because I already knew the maneuvers. Also, the point of this series was to inform people about ACM without them having to sit through boring tutorials - instead I would just have live fights and edit in the tutorials in post.
      And it's not set up. I didn't really know Chippy at the time, so you can ask him if you want. I believe he's a technical mod on the official forums now.

      In that case nice job, I don't usually use barrel rolls, thy tend not to work out for me, what I do is turn left or right and downwards, gaining speed and turning faster so I can cut them off

      Antypas Andreas in realistic ?
      if it is in arcade it is fairly easy to get 7 kills
      in arcade i get 9 or 10 kills in realistic 1 or 2

      Altijd Onbereid Showing off? Seriously? :P lol, ok. You know, I agree, for me, and you(if you are not lying) its pretty easy, but for some people, its impossible. I see players with 5 deaths and 0 kills sometimes, so dont go around trying to show that you have the biggest dick in the room, its fucking pathetic.

      Antypas Andreas i was just trying to make a statement
      i wasnt trying to show off
      because i know some people have a really hard time to get kills in every gamemode they have tried out
      and i really feel for them but
      for me youre already a good player if youre trying to learn from your mistakes
      and if youre trying to learn from your mistakes i dont care about your score
