When withdrawing money from Preply, do the options they have take a percentage or charge fees? For example, I understand Paypal charge a fee if a payment is made for 'goods or services' but not for 'friends and family'.

I would recommend looking at Wise.com for possibly reducing possible fees when getting paid. Here is a link to register: wise.com/invite/dic/martins3408. Wise is very competitive compared to PayPal.

You're a really fantastic teacher. I've been teaching on Cambly for 2years and haven't bothered to upskill myself for a long time. After watching your videos I've decided to become a more knowledgeable teacher and aim for a higher wage! All the best :)

Thank you for your help! What would you recommend as a base rate for someone like me that has ZERO teaching experience but is 1) a native English speaker, 2) hold a bachelors degree in business marketing (we also focused on business communication), 3) has a TEFL Certificate and, 4) a TEYL Certificate (young learners). I am eager to begin and incorporate various external resources.

A really interesting question and quite a bit to unpack. I think a video answering this question would be more helpful to those in a similar situation but in short I think you should start your hourly rate at $15 per hour. Once you have gained 100 hours of teaching experience on Preply raise it to $20 per hour. Think about what you want to achieve and where you want to be.

Great tips Martin, especially for new teachers! What I usually do is rate higher the classes that need more preparation. For example, when I teach Business English I cannot charge as much as I charge for general English. I need more time to prepare the material and the activities for business people.

Great video. I'm sorry to ask this here but how do you upload a ppt to Preply? Thanks

That's a great question - perhaps worthy of a future video. You can upload the PPT to the whiteboard or you could share your screen to potential students of the PPT. I shall make a video soon to help answer this question, so keep an eye out! 😊
