This video is on a Saturn Ion that has a 2.2 Ecotec engine that would not crank. This fix is for similar models like Chevrolet Cavalier, Malibu, Pontiac Grand Am, Sunfire, Saturn L-Series, Vue and other models.The problem was with a cable that was suppose to be grounded to the engine that was rusted apart of the eyelets. Please watch the video for the fix!

Glad you found the fix. For others with no start, check for the flashing security light on your dash. These cars have a resistor in the IGNITION SWITCH that fails. That resistor is responsible for sending a signal to your bcm, allowing your car to start. If BCM does not see the proper resistance value, security system will engage and car will not crank. These IONs do NOT have a chip in the key as some have eluded to.
Larry , I just bought a 05 , no crank , no start. When I turn rhe key to start position I hear a click at the bcm. I have flashing security light also.
@@TheMrmmkkpro 1st, try to do a key relearn for the car. You can search the web for the procedure (approximately 30 minutes to complete). I did this an it worked. Once I got the car running, I disabled the security feature by cutting one wire near the ignition switch while the car was running (I believe somebody had a video out here on that topic). Security light will remain on, but the car will start every time. It worked on my niece's 06 for a few years until she scrapped the car because of age.

Thanks Larry , I did that yesterday and the blinking sec light went away. Still no crank , no power going to injectors. I jumped the starter and it works fine. Also the fuel gauge is dead. I'm wondering if I have a bcm problem. Tried two different ignition switches ,no change. I'm picking up a brand new one this morning. Since I can't read bcm codes I'm trying a process of elimination. It's a nice little car 85k miles. All fuses are good. I need a shop manual. Thanks.👍
@@TheMrmmkkpro I believe the crank signal runs from the BCM to the pcm once the security check passes. Just had a buddy's Silverado with a no crank. Turned out to be a bad bcm.

I installed the new ignition switch , no change. Zero power on the injector fuse under the hood. I have a jumper wire in the clutch switch to eliminate it , leaning toward bcm also. This is exactly what my 2004 Saturn Ion has been doing ... 3 times in the past few weeks...
I'm starting with the battery. Its a hell of a thing working in -25°F weather.

In my case I replaced the ECM with complete Engine Cintrol Module from a junk yard.
Replaced ignition switch $78, starter $300 then ECM $150. I've don't that before, but the computer in ECM was the issue. I paid $40 for same ECM (out of a Pontiac they told me) at same junk yard 10 years ago. Oh well.
Just watching this video made my car start...

I Have a saturn ion 2004 lights would come on but car wouldnt start.I will tell you right now it is not the starter or ignition switch..the thing that happen to me is the security lock was coming on and was blocking me from starting my car.I called over a mobile mechanic and he told me all the car needed was re programming turn out that solve the problem...the car wasnt recognizing my key he reprogram it in about a hour.I was so frustrated so if you can get a mechanic out tell them to reprogram your key because the security theft sensor will lock u out!!! Happy to be back on the road and didnt have to cut that white wire!!!😀

Saturns have ground line issues. i have a photo on where people have cleaned and did a secondary ground line, but wish someone would do a video of it.

My daughters car is doing somewhat the same thing, go to start it, and no noise for like 3-4 seconds while holding the key in the start position and then it will crank and start, similar to yours?
a little bit copper paste will will work graet against corrosion..

I get nothing when I turn the key 04 ion 2.2. New battery installed - no dash lights no clicks no turning over. Any ideas/thoughts?
Check the ground for you battery where it connects to the car to the left of the battery, then check for power at the post sticking out of your fuse box under the hood, that's where your positive cable cable runs, if powers good there start checking your fuses
Ignition switches on these cars are notoriously defective. I've replaced several.

What if it clicks and battery is good and starter is new and only does it every couple months ?
I'm having same issue 2006 Saturn ion. Does same thing but there is not any wires like your has.
Are you getting fuel, spark, and a sufficient amount of compression?

Oh, ok. Have you confirmed that the vehicle is in park. Sometimes, the neutral safety switch (located by the shifter, under the console) can cause this same issue.
I have the L300 Saturn, it won't do anything after i drive it 4 miles or so. It seems that it has to cool down, ( I'm guessing) after about 2 hours it starts. It's showing no codes, and when ruining no problems. ????? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated, thank you
Security system liking it up. Get in it shit the doors try to start if it doesn't start take key out then don't touch any knobs or anything wait till the clock goes off on the console then put the key in start it it should start I know it sounds crazy but I have one a d that's what I have to do. Hope it helps

Hi I was wondering if by any chance you have a video of you removing the alarm box underneath and if I remove that would it also remove the security theft mode lock
+Maria Cabrera hey! This is an after market alarm, not the supplied by GM. If you have an aftermarket one installed and remove it, the car will not go into security theft mode lock. I am unsure what it will do if the security system is from GM. Hope that helps!
I have a o4 or 05 not sure which but this is what I have to do to get mine started when it won't start. Get in shut the doors put key in try starting it, if it doesn't start I take the key out and don't hit any buttons don't touch no knobs nothing wait till the clock goes out in the console once it goes out put the key in ignition and start minecstarts almost every time sometimes I have to do the whole process twice and a few times iv hadcto do it three times never more than three thou thank God but that's my trick that I gota do to mine to get it to start sometimes sometimes it fires rifmght up just all depends on her mood at that moment. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂

Yea mine does the same thing. I get in and try to start it if it doesn't start I take the key out wait until the digital click goes off on the console once it goes off I put the key in and it'll start sometimes I gotta do the whole process twice. But I gotta take key out then don't touch any knobs buttons nothing until that clock goes off then put key in and itll start like I said sometimes I gotta do that whole proses twice once I had to do it three times and if it's cold or even real hot out it sucks bad
I don't have that wire in that location. I think someone moved it down lower, right above the starter. it's grounded to 2 other grounds.
+Cristian Aquino that is possible. Someone may have had that problem in the past possibly and remedied it that way.

I have the same vehicle and the same problem. I never noticed that wire that needs to be grounded but the anti thieft shows on the dash when I try turning mg car on
Does your car crank (attempt to start)? If it does attempt to start, it may be the Passlock security system on the car.

My car never shut off while driving. This happened sometime while it was setting. Either from an animal or something.

If the screw is tight spray it with wd40 Now my car is starting good.
The majority of issues are GM Passlock
What is the location of the starter?
I believe it is in the front, below the intake manifold.
In front just behind bottom of radiator
next time check your starter ground/engine ground before destroying your remote start lol

I followed the wire loom and found the wire on one of them. Then that is how I pieced it back to that position. Keep looking, it should be there.
