As an English major, I second everything he said. The way Shakespeare goes into the psyche of the characters and writes every word with such precision...you simply can't compare him with anyone. Reading one play of Shakespeare is equal to reading 20 books of other writers. My personal favourite has to be 1. King Lear 2. Hamlet 3. Othello
Edit: to everyone who is comparing Shakespearean works with Gita - What the hell is wrong with you all? Can you really compare Gita to anything? Let alone Shakespeare. And why do we have to compare? Read both then draw your own conclusions.

Read more and read different things. Many people read only one genre (for most, it's usually in the contemporary fiction category), one or few writers or one or few philosophers. You'd be missing the great thing about reading, which is discovering new and different ideas and points of view. All those who are shouting from the rooftops to go read the Gita instead of Shakespeare are making a mockery of themselves by pretending to have read either of the two. If these people have indeed read the Gita, they would be mature enough to know not to draw illogical comparisons between a centuries-old spiritual text whose wisdom is timeless and profound, and a historical play written in the late 16th century. Even the great Shakespeare himself would scoff at such a foolish comparison.

There's a bit more to this, though. It's actually likely that he didn't write everything himself, because of his constantly drastically changing writing style. It's nothing to do with "him being great" regardless of it he is, but Linguistics just find differences in his works that usually result in different authors.

As we can select out the field n know about them specifically, which makes us easy to find the one we were looking for.
