There could be something funny there as satire; that even hardened big criminals can't escape the all consuming hole of privatization and rent, similar to how in Robocop corporations having control over the justice system for a dollar. But like in Robocop it requires a lot of cleverness, wit and soul in the writing to make it work: something the writers for this game evidently lack.
Blackwater mercs apparently make $9k a month. It might have worked if they made it a kind of dystopian cyber-city, where life is cheap and death is common, but then they wouldn't be making a Saint's Row game and these annoying brats still wouldn't fit in.
The thing about Saints Row... the story WAS meant to be serious with some wacky under/overtones, and surrounded by side content that was just downright insane. The Devs seem to have forgotten that after Saints Row 2 and just leaned almost all in on the "wacky" side of it without having the seriousness to balance it out.
The tonal shift between the second and third game is really noticeable and even though the third was fun, it started the series trend of trying to cram every over powered weapon and raunchy joke in the following games effectively leaving no room for sequels because they overstimulated their audience. Honestly, they could have brought back the series with the reboot if they took inspiration from the first two games and put a new creative spin on it

I played the entire game and the "there's no music" claim is active throughout the ENTIRETY of the game, even with DMCA music on, I've counted only 4 or 5 missions where there was music Remember in SR3 you jumped out of a skyscraper while blasting Power by Kanye West? This is the problem with so many TV shows, movies, games today - writers lack the depth or imagination to write anything but self-insert characters. And since they typically spend half their waking life on Twitter, this is what they insert.

I'm not surprised that it's bad at all, I'm more so surprised an angered by how little it even resembles a Saints Row game. Literally nothing about the plot, characters, setting, or humor feels like the earlier SR games. If the gameplay were dogshit but they at least got the world/tone right I'd be less upset, but this isn't a Saints Row game outside of the branding and minor lip service. Hell, the fact they changed jokes after being *afraid to upset anyone* just shows how out of touch they are with the series.

Back in Saints 3, my favorite thing to do was to drive to the airport and blast danger zone over the ingame music … I’d fly to my objective like it was it’s own mini mission to me every part of that game was fun

I remember trying the character creator demo for this and wondering how the hell they managed to make a bunch of options completely worthless. Like there's like 10 faces you can switch between parts of and then barely adjust with sliders, but none of them work unless they're alongside the other pieces of that same face, and only one face really fit the head itself, so it was basically just a waste of a customiser unless you wanted to make your character look intentionally horrific. Lol, the original Saints were borderline unhinged, all of them. These ones look like if someone hit their car they'd angrily post about it on twitter and do nothing else.
The boss put radioactive waste in Maeros tattoo ink so it would burn his face. Then put maeros girlfriend in the trunk of a car at his monster truck rally. Meaning Maero crushed his own girlfriend to death. the boss then chucks him the keys and says "should have offered more than 30%". BADASS.
I won't lie, I didn't have that issue and managed to really make some nice looking characters in the Demo; but it was insanely limited for what they promised.

I know i may have exaggerated about them all being useless, but the main issue with most of the face parts was that they were like 20% deeper or wider than each other resulting in them looking like some weird glued on clay blob rather than facial features. The old games weren't exactly perfect, but they were leagues better than this.
@@TuffMelon oh nah it was still Mid at best, I fucked around with the Male first as I tend to always play male, then female in games with character customization. The female side of things deff highlighted the shortcomings for me, as all the faces seemed to be just slight edits of one another. Tbh I always am let down when devs claim “ground breaking customization!” And it is just sliders. I think, even though it was a pretty mid game; Fallout 4 ACTUALLY had a very in depth system where you can make basically anything. I 100% agree that each option was just a bit wider or narrower but; I tend to spend an obnoxious amount of time fiddling due to OCD and my love for making decent looking characters.

It would actually be hilarious if it wasnt terribly written. Like, theres something golden about hardened criminals just tryna make ends meat. Like rome in fast and the furious.
There could be something funny there as satire; that even hardened big criminals can't escape the all consuming hole of privatization and rent, similar to how in Robocop corporations having control over the justice system for a dollar.
But like in Robocop it requires a lot of cleverness, wit and soul in the writing to make it work: something the writers for this game evidently lack.

It might have worked if they made it a kind of dystopian cyber-city, where life is cheap and death is common, but then they wouldn't be making a Saint's Row game and these annoying brats still wouldn't fit in.
The thing about Saints Row... the story WAS meant to be serious with some wacky under/overtones, and surrounded by side content that was just downright insane. The Devs seem to have forgotten that after Saints Row 2 and just leaned almost all in on the "wacky" side of it without having the seriousness to balance it out.
The tonal shift between the second and third game is really noticeable and even though the third was fun, it started the series trend of trying to cram every over powered weapon and raunchy joke in the following games effectively leaving no room for sequels because they overstimulated their audience. Honestly, they could have brought back the series with the reboot if they took inspiration from the first two games and put a new creative spin on it

@@telecentric2103 i do agree...but i will say, it's not sr3 as a whole to blame, i'd say that it was that one mission where you have temporary powers that is the big culprit. along w/ the humor of that mission, it directly contributed to sr4 existing. even then, sr4 had at least a small bit to like about it compared to this game, which i wouldn't even call it a saints row game.
none of the devs of this were devs of any previous saints projects or any AAA release ever. everyone in charge of this only made mobile games prior to this
SR2 was the perfect amount of goofy and serious, and definitely the only game out of them that was a serious GTA competitor. 3 and 4 felt like they were written by a teenager with unmedicated ADHD, fun but pure cringefests

I played the entire game and the "there's no music" claim is active throughout the ENTIRETY of the game, even with DMCA music on, I've counted only 4 or 5 missions where there was music
Remember in SR3 you jumped out of a skyscraper while blasting Power by Kanye West? Yeah the only music you get here is 4 80's tracks and 1 actual game song and that's it, they completely forgot to add music

I knew the writing would be trash as soon as I read some interview where the devs complained that the old Saints were "too mean-spirited" or some crap like that. These people shouldn't have been in charge of rebooting Saints Row, they don't even like the kind of tone or attitude that is core to a video game series all about organized criminals.

In the old games there would've probably been a mission where you deal with an imposter gang and it's these chucklefucks. And Gat or Pierce or somebody would ask, "Yo, do we really sound like this?" Followed by the cockney accented reply, being, "maybe we do, but at least we can back it the fuck up."
The comedic timing of Charlie making comments only to immediately be proved wrong by AI Kevin is great. Also, the police car missing that turn and the two monster truck incidents had me crying

This is what happens when the creatives get abused by greedy corpo scum, forcing them to leave the business. The empty soul of the original art is used like a flesh mask on a mentally ill sociopath trying to emulate the original idea while completely missing the topic.
Unfortunately, the market is so saturated with extremely stupid people and small children that they can make anything and be successful as long as they avoid too much negative press.
Long story short, Charlie is doing the opposite to help stop this by showing the game and promoting it, even just by criticizing it. If you want this shit to stop, don't talk about the game, don't buy it, and don't acknowledge it's existence.
I cant believe that I was worrying about the "wokeness" of the game. I should've worried more about the actual gameplay. Not to mention how bad the graphics are, I legit thought Charlie was playing at the lowest possible graphics settings.
Saint-Row 1: mostly serious satyre/rip-off of GTA San-Andreas, serious story, serious universe
Saint-Row 2: satyre of the GTA franchise with humour focusing on over-the-top action and gap between serious scenes and it's absurde/cartoony universe
saint-row 3: parody of itself, family guy type of "ahaha funny", filled with references, everyone is a cartoon character living in a cartoon world

I'm not surprised that it's bad at all, I'm more so surprised an angered by how little it even resembles a Saints Row game. Literally nothing about the plot, characters, setting, or humor feels like the earlier SR games. If the gameplay were dogshit but they at least got the world/tone right I'd be less upset, but this isn't a Saints Row game outside of the branding and minor lip service. Hell, the fact they changed jokes after being *afraid to upset anyone* just shows how out of touch they are with the series.
The sight of Charlie driving his car right underneath a monster truck followed by him standing amongst his flattened vehicle like nothing happened just about broke me.

I feel bad for this series. I grew up with it, and it's a real shame seeying how it became the very thing it swore to be different from. Saints Row wasn't the equivalent of The Pepsi of the GTA-like games, it tried to be different. Now it's just like the others.

I remember trying the character creator demo for this and wondering how the hell they managed to make a bunch of options completely worthless. Like there's like 10 faces you can switch between parts of and then barely adjust with sliders, but none of them work unless they're alongside the other pieces of that same face, and only one face really fit the head itself, so it was basically just a waste of a customiser unless you wanted to make your character look intentionally horrific.

I won't lie, I didn't have that issue and managed to really make some nice looking characters in the Demo; but it was insanely limited for what they promised.

I know i may have exaggerated about them all being useless, but the main issue with most of the face parts was that they were like 20% deeper or wider than each other resulting in them looking like some weird glued on clay blob rather than facial features.
The old games weren't exactly perfect, but they were leagues better than this.
@@TuffMelon oh nah it was still Mid at best, I fucked around with the Male first as I tend to always play male, then female in games with character customization. The female side of things deff highlighted the shortcomings for me, as all the faces seemed to be just slight edits of one another. Tbh I always am let down when devs claim “ground breaking customization!” And it is just sliders. I think, even though it was a pretty mid game; Fallout 4 ACTUALLY had a very in depth system where you can make basically anything. I 100% agree that each option was just a bit wider or narrower but; I tend to spend an obnoxious amount of time fiddling due to OCD and my love for making decent looking characters.
