    I hated hearing the song Shallow on the radio all the time. I finally saw A Star Is Born on TV and I was blown away by Lady Gaga's acting skills.
    Eminem "coming out" is such a great scene in The Interview. Not taking yourself too seriously and making yourself the butt of a joke is such a good ability to have.

    Bob Dylan has acted very sporadically since his small role in the Western “Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid”, and Levon Helm from Dylan’s sometime backing band The Band acted in various films starting with “Coal Miners Daughter”. Also singer-songwriter Kris Kristopherson and Roger Daltrey from The Who have had extensive acting careers. And Aaliyah was starting branching out into acting just before her tragic death. Plus John Lennon was in one film “How I Won The War “.

      It was my setup for a "they all look the same!" and tie it in with the topic of Hollywood beauty standards from your previous video because while there many singers turned actors, their numbers is only a tiny fraction of the number of playback singers not considered conventionally attractive who will never get the opportunity to be onscreen.

    No rabbit :/
    But on topic i think the more performative (big show and persona) a musician is the more likely they can make the move. Wahlberg was mostly known for being a muscle man. Lady Gaga is known for big spectacles like David Bowie was. I think that's why it's harder for the ones that are more music oriented to make the jump or make it permanently like Eminem.

    The Music Artist becoming an Actor is as old as Hollywood. Consider the first talking picture The Jazz Singer with Al Jolson in 1927. Then in the 30s radio star Bing Crosby comes to mind which leads to the 40s crooners Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin then to 50s Rock & Roll Elvis. By the 60s, the Beatles have a try at movies and so it goes...
    But I figure you know this. The question is what is different with the current generation of musical artists turned actors compared to their predecessors?

    • @AbbieRee
      @AbbieRee  Před 5 dny +1

      A great point to make! It definitely has been done several times in the past with some performances being better received than others.
      I’m not quite sure, I think it’s always been somewhat the same where a musician may want to try their hand at something else. With social media it is a lot easier for people to start a conversation around a movie/performance which can bring a lot more focus onto an individual and with trend culture if one person says something is bad and gets lots of attention others will hop onto the trend. Where back in the day it would mainly be articles and potentially interviews about a performance. I’m not sure if that really answered your question it’s a lot of speculation really! What’s your thoughts
      Thank you so much for you’re comment I really appreciate it ☺️

      @@AbbieRee - Thanks for getting back. I like your inquisitiveness. Many performers back in the day came from the theater tradition whether Vaudeville, Burlesque, Follies or Broadway. Often they had to be proficient in singing, dancing, stand up comedy, etc. to keep up. A situation that carried over to Radio and then Television in the form of the Variety Show.
      Of your list, the only one whom I sense truly understands this tradition is Lady Gaga. Not only did A Star Is Born play into her strengths but she joined the ranks of musical artists turned actors - Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand in playing the lead.
      Look forward to your future efforts.

    As a game of thrones youtuber I have to comment in regards to Edd Sheeran, it was a terrible idea.
    Now Game of thrones has had guest stars before, Chris Stapleton, Sigur Rós, Mastodon, Will Champion, and tons of other people we are not in the music area.
    But what made them work was there was less.... how should I put this. Fan fare about it? Yet even as someone who had never heard of Ed Sheeran when his scene came up I just knew. "Ah, this mf is famous."
    Everyone else passed me by without a seconds thought and it does not help that it is a scene that overall is quite useless to the show. I mean come on, you guys are already cutting episodes out but you also will have this stuff forced in there?
    To be clear the hate Ed got was completely unjustified though.

    Well, there are a few artists who did a terrific job as an actor and actress.
    Someone who proved to be a good actress and a good singer is Cher. It makes sense since she won an Oscar for her role in Moonstruck (good movie by the way) and got a nomination for Silkwood.
    Lady Gaga is also another good example. While I haven't seen A Star Is Born, I did see her in House of Gucci and she rocked the house.
    Heck even Tupac Shakur was a great actor. He appeared in amazing movies like Juice and Gridlock'd.
    I am even surprised that Nicki Minaj can act. I mean her role in Barbershop 3 was great. Then I realized that she went to acting school, just like Tupac did.
    And there are those who are actors and actress just because. Ed Sheehan, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Camilla Cabello, etc.
    I understand that these artist wanted to be actors and actresses. But that's a different ballpark. While some like Harry and Taylor had some ok movie roles, most are just there due to their stardom or trying to move away from music.

    • @AbbieRee
      @AbbieRee  Před 5 dny +1

      Wow some very interesting points made! I definitely agree and think there have been so many great examples of musicians who have done excellent in their roles. For some I think it’s a lot easier for the audience to see past there fame and see what they are trying to portray on screen I do think for some celebrities this can be hard for instance Harry styles and Ed Sheeran not saying they are bad at acting but it can be harder for them to be taken seriously.
      There has also been several rappers who have done incredible films like you said!
      Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts it really means a lot to hear your opinion on the topic 😊
