- I've had this on mini DV for 17 years. Considering the lack of great footage of Eyedea and his unfortunate passing I wanted to share this with other fans looking for more. This for me was capturing magic. I was just a fan of both Slug and Eyedea and happened to be in the right place at the right time with a video camera in hand to capture it.

They're both still helping me. An eyedea never dies. Wish I could have met the person behind that mask, but I thank him for his legacy. In my opinion, Eyedea was the most significant mind hip hop lost. I have not been personally affected more by someone I never actually met.

Someone who loved these guys & truly knew how talented they were booked a small afternoon concert in the commons area on the UCLA campus on this fall day in 2001. This is so special! You can totally tell that slug & eyedea were the only true professors on campus that day.

There are other greats and people who deserve the credit of really pioneering hip hop to a certain direction but eyedea and slug and without doubt two of the best things to ever happen in the history of hip hop .

I got to see him this year in tulsa. He freestyled for like 20 mins. I was 14 and my mom picked me up before the show was over. I was so bummed. Slug partied so hard back then. He was lit for the gig

Wow, thanks for sharing! Such a great set. For me, God's Bathroom Floor is the gem. Seeing Slug & Eyedea with such youth and passion alone makes it, but that song grabs me. Always has, but they're in particularly good form here.
I too have some older (1999 - 2002) footage from them in Santa Cruz and SF, CA, from some graffiti battles that I'd love to share, but just need to transfer the analog footage to digi.

I have been a fan of all THREE of these guys for such a long time. The comments are all talking about the chemistry of the two which is amazing but DJ Abilities on the ones and twos behind Slug and Eyedea !!! I wish I found this video earlier thank you for sharing . This is such a treat . So many people don’t know how good Hip Hop shows were around this time . Very few shows today are as good as this !!! Thank you again.
how terribly sad to see these 2 rocking the stage together like this. if it werent for the opioides, i think eyedea had massive star power. just look at him perform with slug. these dudes could have been what eminem became around this time. imagine had they all worked together!
I don't think they could ever be like eminem.. Eyedea was only interested in staying independent. And slug felt the same way. Who knows how big eyedea could have been; but he started to step away to focus on different genres; wasn't all about hip hop to him.
And slug.. I think slug pretty much showed what Indy hip hop can do. 6 albums released into billboards top 40. That's incredible for an independent act. To this day atmosphere does crazy things. There new vids don't hit a million views but they sell out 10,000 people at places like Red Rocks. The new Felt album dropped; maybe 10k CZcams hits... Stays #1 on iTunes for a week. That Shit is bonkers.
RSE needs to push that CZcams platform harder.
I was fortunate to personally know Mikey as we grew up together, lived a mile apart, went to the same schools and hung with the same people. Music was an extension of the perfectionist he was. He was this good because he dedicated his life to it and strives to be better then anyone he crossed. It wasn’t a disrespect to those he was better then as he would be the first person to extend a hand to share knowledge or make someone better. He never bought a thing flashy with his money and in turn invested in property, studio and the ability to help others. He never wanted the attention or fame, he only wanted to prove he could be the best. He did this with learning to skate board in elementary school, break dancing in junior high and battling/creating music in high school... he would literally lock himself in his basement for years straight crafting the art of whatever it was he was working on. That basement went from skate park to break dance floor to music/recording studio. Phil from los nativos (another great dude I have the pleasure of knowing) was in the music scene early in the headshot days and Mikey was like I can do this and finally slug and them gave him 2 minutes on a headshots session and Sean was like who is this kid as he was 15yrs old with about 12-18 months true time under his belt crafting actual music. I miss him everyday and always remember the times in class, breaking together and conversations we had to the concerts all of it. The time I saved him from a crowd of people trying to get autographs/pictures and surrounding him, I pulled up and saw it and knew it was overwhelming and I called his name he saw me and headed my way and I opened the door, he hoped in and we drove off with no more then a good conversation with a thanks at the end like friends should do.
