Melissa Manchester was a very special guest for the Soul Sisters hosts for two reasons: Her iconic 1978 hit "Don't Cry Out Loud" was a formative song in Darah's artistic upbringing, and her role as the mom in one of Jessie's favorite '90s sitcoms, Blossom, made this an episode to, well, cry over.

I am a huge fan of Melissa Manchester, she has put out some amazing music over the years.
I saw #Melissa Manchester in 1973 as a Harlette at Miami Beach Auditorium and last weekend in Las Vegas @ #Myron’s at the Smith Center, as well as numerous other occasions. Brilliant song writer and magnificent entertainer. ICON.
Wow! This is fantastic!! Thank you.
Great interview! I need to check out her later work. I play her classics all the time!
Good interview! Such an interesting person/career..Melissa has brought joy to many with her talents. She continues to remain current & engaged in life!
Ladies listen to the person who wrote and sang, please stop talking, she's got this.....
I was named after you.
She was the harlette that played with the divine miss m on that 1973 tour. Fabulously outrageous. Who could believe it of either of them now? Bette murdered the divine miss m to become Bette midler and Melissa and Barry both abandoned their raw talents for big songs, arrangements and shows. Man, the 70's in New York were unbelievable. Peter Allen and Ellen Greene at Reno's, Barbara cook, Gotham, Barry, bully Joel, Tina turner, Bruce at the bottom line, way land and Madame, Chita Rivera at the grand finale, the baths, brothers and sisters, les mouches.
Melissa "abandoned her raw talent"? Hardly. She remains one of the most gifted singer/songwriters to this day. Add to that, two Oscar nominations, a Grammy, an adjunct professorship at USC, involvement with young musicians at Citrus College, and she still continues to record and perform. Melissa is truly a class act, who acknowledges the talents of others, and continues to challenge herself. I have seen her perform on several occasions, most recently in Pasadena in 2018, and she was absolutely fantastic.
I've never completely forgiven Bette for going Hollywood...
