    Don't give them chocolate , avocado ,onions garlic look up to find a safer and healthy diet , vary their diet every week so they don't get bored , make sure they have fresh water the bigger the cage the better, birds are meant to fly and get exercise ,and budgies are better in a group as this is how they live in the wild, if you do get a large cage throw in some grasses ( make sure they are clean and no fertilizers or pesticides ) the love to eat ,chew and make nests with it , spend time with them , and don't rush things let the bird come to you and gain your trust .

      Okay well first off never provide the bird with ANY nesting material unless you are breeding avoid mirrors at all cost .. Grapes bread noodles and dairy is a must for being avoided iceburg lettuce !! HOOKBILLS AVOID SAND PAPER / GRAVEL it will kill your bird and harm the feet DO NOT give the birds supplements unless told to by avian vet

    When I got my 2 first budgies, the pet store sold me a small cage with plastic perches and sand paper to cover the perches for their nails. And told me to give them seed for food. I know better now. They have a flight cage and a variety of perches (different size and textures). I also give them veggies everyday. Also I've notice the "let me out dance". When they move left to right etc. I use to think it was cute but I now realize it means they're unhappy and want out.

    Yes my budgie has a very large cage but that really doesn't matter as she is not in it all day long. She has the run of the house and interacts with us daily. But you must realize that you also need to read your birds language as well as they learning yours. If your bird is feeling safe and secure in their world then you will have no problems. However listen to your bird, they can and will tell you if there is a problem. Mine told me through squaking that I forgot to give them their treat seed after supper one night. Boy did I get told off...she flew to my foot and squaked..then flew to the dining room..then back to me in the bedroom, then to the dining room, then back to me. I finally figured out that she was trying to tell me something. Yep..when I followed her the last time she landed on the diningroom table beside the water I leave out for her. She gave me a look that said "what is missing here?" well the treat seed was missing..I forgot to put it out. Got it and put it on the table and she happily started eating it. Hmmm...these birds are so much smarter than anyone gives them credit for. She is taming me, not the other way around...lol

They remember if they survive.. Everyone needs to know this. My old budgie Happy flew to me at 17 yrs old and didnt want to leave;little did i know that he was about to die.. out of old age and he was happy as his name, i just didnt know he wanted to die at peace and in my hands. @Aali & Rose I put stickers on my windows so they don't fly into them. Keep the toilet lid down. Be very patient. I first let my birds feel comfortable in their surroundings because I let them out for the first time. Make sure you don't have plants that are poisonous to birds. To get them use to your hands I would put my hand in the cage a couple times a day and not go to them. And when they start getting comfortable with that I put millet in my hand. The bird will come and eat out of your hand when comfortable. This is something I do first before letting them out of cage. After you let them out perch train you bird. By gently putting a perch up to their breast and say up. Repeat until they know. For me patience was I big key to getting your bird to trust you. I know this is long. Good luck and enjoy your new bird. Find an avian vet. Bring your after comfortable for first check up. Very important in case your bird ever gets sick.🙂

They are eating from my hand and i’m introducing them to toys slowly. How should I let them out of the cage to explore the house and roam without scaring them or harming them? We’ve brought them out once but i’m afraid that when i’m attempting to bring them back in that i am not doing it correctly because they get scared of me when i try to pick them back up. Their wings are clipped so they cannot fly fully.

    Hello i need help. i bought 4 budgies from pet store and tried to hold them with a cloth (that was before i knew anything about them.now i know better). now they hate me. whenever i try to get my hand in the cage they are either scared or try to bite me. I figured they needed time outside the cage so i let them free in the house but they were too scared that they kept flying and hiting themselves. what shall i do now?

    I do sometimes shout when both of my budgies do begin fighting with each other and try to hurt one another, it mustily works, is that as well bad for them, or may teach them something else? I don't want them to get used biting me whichever I try to put my finger in front of them so I don't normally try to separate them, is there any other method I could try so I can separate those little things and forbid them from fighting?

    Number 2 applies to any bird to be honest. The biggest mistake I see young bird owners make is that they try to tame their bird by chasing them with their hand inside their cage. It's doing the exact opposite of taming, but because the bird gets tired and sits on their finger for a moment, they think it works.

      I read that you had to do that, but I had no patience for it, so I just let him fly around and I put a movie from him on my phone and put a plant next to me on the couch. He just came towards me, sat on my head and on a stick I was holding, tasted my finger and picked my phone. He's phone tame now.

      @theoneunslept2093 Před 4 lety +1

      Renske de jonge this is honestly a wonderful way to tame your bird. I didn't tame my birds much before I let them out of the cage, I pretty much let them out the first day I got them because they have to get their daily exercise whether they're tame or not. Good job with your bird, he seems to really appreciate your presence, and I'm sure he'll learn to love you soon too. 😊

    i, wanted them to be happy but they'd never been allowed to fly. budgie proofed room. And the mistake was letting them out together in too big a room. the dominant in sheer panic bit off the others tale feathers. so the poor thing was forced to be my pal. but it caused jealousies. i was a boy. had we had utube then i would have done things very differently. much Thanks to You.

    here a huge mistake that just personally annoyed me when a family member said it to me. "there no point in taking the budgies to a vet since their life span is very short anyway" a well taken care of budgie can live up to anywhere from 4-5 years to even 15 years if u take really good care of it along with it not having any illnesses they where born with

    • @Rambol_XP
      @Rambol_XP Před 2 lety

      the story behind it if anyone interested, i noticed my 3 budgies have a crusty beak unlike almost all the budgies i could find on yt, so dug into it & long story short. discovered its a mite problem & the nearest avian vet is in another city. so i just told my grandma i was planning to take my budgies to a vet with my dad, & she basically mentioned that its pointless due to their short life span. & thats basically it, regardless of type of pet it is a hamster goldfish or something long living like a dog, if u notice it have any illness u should still take it to the vet, even if their average life span is a year, & is nothing for u. for the animal this year period is everything & letting it slowly die of an illness is just cruel :v

    Thanks for your tips. We like to let our budgies out for 1-2 hours a day. We have a tall playground on top of their huge cage but they still like to sit on the top of the window molding of our old farmhouse and chew up the paint and wallpaper. I try not to yell at them but I worry the paint might be toxic. I do not know the best way to get them to stay up on their cage. Of course they get to fly around and land back on the cage. I just worry about them eating paint chips. I add more and more toys and tree limbs to the top. Also swings, ladders, bells. But they still want to eat paint and wallpaper even though we give them millet, oatsprays, seed sticks, sprouts, and offer them fruit. Do you have any suggestions. I love them. Thank you. Your videos are great.

      This may sound weird but I watched an episode of “My Cat from Hell”. The problem was the cat was destroying the sofa and such by scratching. Before they had their cat declawed (which is a vile practice) they thought they would try a cat trainer. What he did worked perfectly & the scratching was stopped permanently. So what he did was use super wide clear packing tape, rolled up ‘inside out’ ...you know, how you have the sticky side out & the ends taped together. OR if you can find double sticky tape, but it needs to be wide... apply the tape, sticky side out, over and along all the surfaces you don’t want your Budgie’s to be on. After they land on it (either just a few times or several) they will learn it’s not comfortable to land there. After it stops landing there, remove the clear tape and they still should not land on those places. Now, I’ve never done this with any bird and I don’t know if it would work, but I bet it would! Worth a try. BUT, I’d watch closely for the first landing on the tape to make sure it’s not too sticky.... we sure don’t want to catch our birds ‘fly paper’ style, or hurt in any way. Hope this might help... see if other Budgie owners would approve.

      You need to do all the research before getting a bird. Not after you already have problems. You can’t get birds just because you think they are cute or look good. You need to put a lot more thought into it than with dogs. And you shouldn’t give fruit to them, only vegetables. Fruit has too much sugar and should only be used as a treat. You should do more research, and think about giving the birds up if you can’t give them everything they need. They need fresh vegetables every single day. They should not be pets for children, and are much harder to care for than cats or dogs. Also they can’t have any human foods.

    I've dealt with very very picky budgies who have only eaten seeds for years of their life and I've got a mix that gets them used to a varied diet. Firstly introduce egg food (it's yellow powdery and used in some treat sticks) and mix it in with seeds. i find harrisons bird pellets the smallest ones added in also trick them because they're so small and shaped/coloured like seeds so they eat them as they're eating seeds. One veg I've yet to have a bird dislike is spinach. Especially my baby budgies get so excited about spinach you'd think it was millet being put in. From there you can easily add in other greens

    My budgie from many years ago was "in love" with a fake toy parakeet I had attached to a perch. He would peck and smack it, kiss it and cuddle with it, even sit on top of it and chill there as if it was a perch; but he also broke the plastic and made sharp edges since he beat on it and chewed it so much...so I bought a different one. Unfortunately the store didn't have the same one and this was back before the internet days where I could find an exact replacement. He had a green one and the one I bought was blue and a little larger. He hated it, didn't interact with it, and refused to be around it. He actively avoided it and I felt so terrible that I filed down the broken plastic of the old one and removed the new one. I tried to make the old toy as safe as possible and put it back where he always liked it...but his heart was broken. Even though it was the same toy, he no longer interacted with it and I feel this led to depression. He was never truly the same. I feel this is also what can happen with mirrors so be warned.

    Good list. I would add the fact that bird respiratory systems are fragile. Smoke of any kind, any sprays or air freshener, deodorant, incense, candles and non stick cookware can all be lethal to your bird. If you have your birds inside you need to research heavily, everything you use to clean or freshen yourself or your home. And don't clean a bird cage with anything other than vinegar and water or f10 or possibly a very mild, grey water safe dish liquid in water before rinsing very well.

Lot of them die in such harsh conditions. You should also consider it. But one should properly care for them . That's it. You have shared nice info. With others but if you do it without getting obsessed with budgies. That will be good .

    I just found your channel. I really enjoy it. I have new budgies and trying to learn everything that I need to know. I have 3 young budgies...5 months and under. Is it necessary to have an even number of birds?

      Dee Drole - we bird persons HIGHLY recommend that you ALSO READ books and magazines about budgies. It will affect the eventual joy of having them fly to your hand on command !!! Truly.

      Yes it is important to have them in the equal number because if one of them gets left out, they will die from loneliness. I have 10 budgies and they are in pairs. All of them get along. So I will suggest you to get them in pairs and equal number. I hope it helps 😊

      The less budgies you have the more important it is to have them in even number, I usually say the absolute minimum number of budgies that requires an even number is 6, which means 7 and above is fine, because the more budgies you have the less important it is to have them in even number.
      however this number fluctuates and it is not precise. you could have a very happy 5 budgies with no problems, or 9 budgies and still one of them is left out. so if you are having an even number it important to keep a close eye and see if someone is being left out.

      Do research

      Dude you need to find him a new home. You need to do all the research before you get a budgie. If you know nothing it is absolutely cruel to get one. They are MUCH harder to care for that dogs. They need a huge cage, fresh vegetables every single day and lots of toys, you need at least two budgies, and their cage needs to be at least big enough for ten budgies to fly around without a problem. It absolutely disgusts me seeing comments from people who got a bird just because they could. You need to do your research. Seed bells are not a proper diet and are just treats. They need to be on a seed mix, and you need to cut them fresh vegetables every day.

      sharron gray you shouldn’t be feeding him carrot. They need a variety. At least five five different veggies every day, and you shouldn’t give much carrot as it is very sugary.
