10 things I wish I knew before I got my first budgie parakeet

- 1) The cage's size you get offered at the pet store is not really suitable for your birds.
2) The same goes for the perch you get from the store.
3) Kissing your bird can end up badly.
4) Budgies need more than seeds and millet in their diet.
5) Budgies are really messy and they poop as often as every 15 to 20 minutes.
6) They are Noisy.
7) Not any veterinarian can treat your birds, you need an avian vet.
8) They are very smart and some of them can even talk, a big example for that is Disco the budgie.
9) They breed like rabbits, and by that I mean they reproduce quickly.
10) The average life span of budgies is between 8 to 15 years.

1: the so scared it wont move bugie
2: the budgie that is screeching and afraid and flying everywhere but calms down eventually
3: the budgie that just likes to chirp all day
4: the budgie that is so cute you cant tell what its feeling because it's always just

My first budgies name was Joey his cage was open most of the time, so he was going around the house having fun. Got in his cage at night and went to sleep. He was pure joy.🤷🐦 Also he talked. 😀

My grandmother had a budgie who lived to be 23 years old, so please don't underestimate how much of a commitment these little dudes are! 😊

Also a good tip: keep lots of toys handy. Have 3-4 in their cage at once, and switch the toys around often to keep your bird entertained. Mirrors can be a good option for short periods of time, or when you will have to leave the house for a few hours, as they can keep a budgie busy for a long time. However, it is believed that mirrors can cause damage to their brain, as the birds believe this is another bird, but the reflection will not give your bird the affection and attention they need from other birds.
I bought my first two budgies a year ago and now I have 12 of them, and they actually taught me how to make them happy. If you go to one of the pet stores like Petco and Petsmart you will find everything you need to take care of your budgies. I find just good warm vinegar is great in cleaning the cage and perches. When I go to grocery shopping like most parents, I look for foods they like to eat. I find chopped up fruits and veggies and many package goods like cereals and crackers make them happy. When I make breakfast I make them scrabbled eggs without butter and I throw in the shells. None of my birds like taking baths, so I bought a spray bottle and give them showers. They like that better. Vinegar also is great for the bottom of the cage and healthier than the bottled stuff and also cheaper. Most of the Parakeets food I buy is already packaged and sold with healthy seeds/vegetables/fruits including treats.

i had a friend who got 2 budgies and kept them in a small, round topped cage with no toys. they died after 3 years. to be honest i thought this was normal until I did research. they were robbed of at least 7 years. i'm very glad i know more now, so i don't make the same mistakes they did
3 years are still alot of time i bought one pair and they died after a week because i sprayed them with detol i thought if they had mites😑😏

My budgie enjoyed this video! He was chattering at the screen. He's my 4th budgie (I only get 1 at a time), and my 2nd one that has talked. They are amazing, wonderful little companions that are often underestimated.

Budgies are loud? Try an Amazon, Indian ringneck, macaw or even a cockatiel.

@@honeysucklesubliminals7235 didn't offend, just saying I have 6 budgies, combined all 6 aren't as loud as just one of my Indian ringnecks, or one of my cockatiels, or our amazon. Budgies are "chirpers" while the rest can be ear piercing loud.

I have a large flight cage for my 2 male budgies. I let them out after lunch and they return on their own now. I have toys inside the cage and I have recently bought a multi perch to fix on the top of their cage. They are fed budgie seed , millet and broccoli , apples , grapes, lettuce , dandelion leaves etc. They seem to be happy and play alot. I need a cover around bottom of the cage to stop it flying everywhere.

Could it be used as a temporary cage until the bigger and roomer cage comes? Then just later used as a carrier?
sure, just try asap to bring a bigger cage, or give the budgies a free time out of the cage that helps too, until the bigger proper cage comes along :)
I was lucky that I have a bird specialty store local to me that doesn't offer the tiny weird pet store cages that only get taller.

Watch how much fruit you feed, captive birds don't fly 15-20 miles a day to burn off the sugars like wild birds do!
The bird knows if it's hungry or not. And maybe he only chose so many fruits for the video because it looks way more adorable than vegetables. You can never know how much they get in general🤷♀️
@@victxria.k3 the bird eats what you put in front if it, it eats to fight starvation, if you offer avocado for example it will kill them, but they will eat it. Think twice before you speak from your ass, I can play all day.

I bought one and then I bought two more :-(. I was looking at getting a little Conure but I slowed down and just trying to get to know these birds. I think birds are crazy, funny Its been almost two months for KB and almost a month for the other 2. We are getting better they still don't want me to touch them too much but they will let me feed them so its slow. They are starting to play with the toys more so its more interesting every day.

I have 6, do you trim there nails, I have one that seems to get his nail hung in the cover I put over them at night.I have never had budgies before.
Nail and beak trims are absolutely necessary, but have an avian veterinary do these jobs please.

they eat spinach, mint leaves , vaamu and tulasi (in telugu language) , which I used to grow in pots at home . so that they can eat fresh every day early in the morning.
My first 2 budgies were blue and whire and the other was green and yellow. i named them Bluey and Greenwhich. things i wished back then were: 1 i wish i taken care of them better

Angel Vargas There is a brand called. Harrison’s that i’ve heard is really good and you can get it off amazon but i recommend the smallest size for budgies

Look at a "critter nation" single or double cage, bars are close so cats can't get paws in, and doors are huge for easy in and out access! I know they are ferret cages, but I swear by them!

They are probably the cheapest and easiest pet to own/care for! The mess they make is contained to the cage (also cheap) very easy and quick to clean! Hardly any smell specially if you clean cage regularly.. and better to be a loving budgie owner then to have bad friends and do drugs!
