Taival Outdoors is a channel about the great outdoors, spending time in nature doing everything from day hikes and overnight adventures to bikepacking and multi-day wilderness backpacking. Trekking is close to my heart, but I’m not tied to any particular "genre" like ultralight or bushcraft - instead I do what I've found through my experience in the wild to work the best for me. Wonderful idea. Nothing will ever replace a printed photo. Creating these records requires a lot of effort but is always worth it. Congratulations on this milestone!

I think a photo diary is a fantastic idea, I've thousands of images from more than 40 years of hiking, building a chronicle for kith and kin. I've done this format for other aspects of my life. 🙏🙏

I always browse those old albums like once a year, but don’t think I ever did it with my phone pictures (over 14.000 of them).
You’ll look back fondly to those memories in the album in a couple of decades. And thanks for the reminder that I should be doing the same.

Agree with the point about losing something valuable with digital photography becoming commonplace. I was looking at an old Japanse medium format camera the other day. The whole thing was a work of art on itself, as much as it is taking a good photo with one. Having forgotten a whole lot of what I knew about film photography and being heavily invested into digital, I still sometimes find myself considering "downgrading."
Neither one can fully replace the other, I think.
@@TaivalOutdoors Not really no. Technically they both have their strengths, for example digital really shines in extremely low light. But the appeal of film to me is that everything is more tangible and physical. Even pressing the shutter is a bit cooler because of the mechanical action of it.
To be honest, I just went through my phones gallery and I have to admit I don’t have many pictures from the last four years I enjoyed this hobby. But it should still be enough to reconstruct most milestones like my first backpack, my first “real” hike not in the woods at home, my first trip in the Alps etc plus I should be able to reconstruct all the routs with google timeline.
But you are right, I should start to document things in better quality in an offline-format.
For most trips I had just one photo, so the accompanying text became even more important. 👍
The other changes than ending sercive might be a change in terms of service, paywalling services, corporate transfers, new management... many reasons why you should always keep basic copies of memories elsewhere than online services. Thou even a book will find itself in a landfill if its trashed or second hand bookstore... when not needed so, even that book might be resold.
You're absolutely right. At least with a physical book I have more control over it.
That is a great idea and I should make it too. Having photographed with an 80's film camera as a kid, I really get your point about really thinking what to photograph versus snapping many photos with a phone 😀. Where did you order it from?

This is exactly the idea I wanted to do, but I want to journal only things within 50 minutes drive from my house (ie local area). I am not sure how to proceed with what camera to get, and how to take good photos. Any information on that is useful. Of course theres a lot of information available about this kind of thing, but I would like to be able to take reasonably good photos in a short period of time.
That’s a nice theme for a book. I’m definitely not the right person to give advice on photography, but most important thing is to start doing it.
Nice, good for you! Actually, were it for sale and in English I'd be happy to buy a copy. In the past year or so I have become smitten with the northern Scandinavia region through videos such as yours and others. I look forward to your next installment.
